Ruthann Lois Goins
Ruthann Lois Goins, 60, of 90 Humphrey Road, Harrisburg, died 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at her residence.
The body will be cremated. There will be no funeral. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
She was born July 17, 1942, in Chicago to the late Edward and Ruth (Mahzahn) Nowotarski. On May 28, 1961, she married
Charles A. Goins, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Living Christ Lutheran Church in Buffalo Grove.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Charles E. "Butch" Goins; two daughters, Janet McDonald of Brookport and Susan Goins of Harrisburg; a brother, Eddie Nowotarski of Rolling Meadows; a sister, Janet Vendetti of Elgin; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
William Harris Berry Sr.
On July 11, 1913, William Harris Berry was born in Cottage Township, Saline County, to Alvis Kenneth Berry and Nellie Mugge Berry. Mr. Berry had three brothers, O.L. Berry, Lee Arthur "Peck" Berry, Col. John K.D. Berry (USAF Ret.).
Mr. Berry attended grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse at Rocky Branch Township. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1930. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Southern Illinois University and a master's degree in science from the University of Illinois. He did postgraduate work at St. Louis University Medical School. He received National Science Foundation Grants and attended Drake University and Southern Illinois University for postgraduate work.
Mr. Berry married
Gwendolyn Francis Winterberger on Aug. 20, 1933, in Murphysboro. On Feb. 3, 1938, a fire destroyed their log cabin home located at Berry Hill on Route 13 south of Eldorado. They had three sons, William Harris Berry, Robert Charles Berry and Kenneth Linnaeus Berry.
Mr. Berry had worked as a chemist for Halliburton until 1949. He left Halliburton to teach high school science and biology in Louisville. He then taught high school and was an elementary school principal and the assistant superintendent of schools in Ashkum. He taught high school biology in Paxton. He then moved to Granite City, where Mr. Berry taught biology and earth science until his retirement in 1976.
Since 1941, Mr. Berry was a Master Mason, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner at the Ainad Temple. He retired from teaching in 1976, from Granite City Illinois School District, where he had taught for 35 years.
After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Berry spent their time traveling around the world, where they had spent extended times in Mexico, Russia, China, Central America, South America, Africa, Israel, Egypt and the Holy Land. After Mrs. berry's death on June 30, 1985, Mr. Berry continued with his world travels to places such as Spain, Australia and the Galapagos Islands. They spent their summers in Granite City and wintered in Corpus Christi, Texas, when they weren't traveling. In 1999, Mr. Berry moved permanently to Corpus Christi and became a Texas resident.
Mr. Berry died on Sept. 13, 2002, at 89. He was survived by his three sons, William of Corpus Christi, Robert of Houston, Texas, and Kenneth of Ballwin, Mo.; William's two sons, Travis Wiley Berry and Thomas Austin Berry of Corpus Christi and Kenneth and his wife, Carol Stone Berry and their son and daughter, Clayton Stone Berry of Kansas City, Mo., and Amanda Stone Berry Murphy of Mesa, Ariz.; his brothers, O.L. Berry and his wife Alice of Saline County and Col. John K.D. Berry (USAF Ret.) and his wife Myra of Tempe, Ariz.; his late wife Gwendolyn's sisters, Caroline W. Bradley and Marjorie W. Barnett and her husband, Bob Barnett of Equality and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours for William Harris Berry Sr. will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the Earl Jones Funeral Home in Equality with Masonic rites at 7 p.m.
Services for Mr. Berry will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Earl Jones Funeral Home in Equality with the Rev. Dr. James Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in Westwood cemetery at Shawneetown.
Peggy Ann Lukancic
Peggy Ann Lukancic, 67, of 800 S. Granger St., Harrisburg, died 4:55 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at her residence.
In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Brushy cemetery with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating and Terry Maynard assisting.
She was born Oct. 26, 1934, in Carrier Mills to the late Clarence and Edith (Hill) Osburn. On April 9, 1966, she married
William "Bill" Lukancic, who survives.
She was an interior decorator and a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jeff (Lisa) Fisher of Evansville, Ind.; a daughter, Jane Lukancic of Kenosha, Wis.; a stepdaughter, Lori (Les) Palmer of Carterville; two brothers, Fred Osburn of Jacksonville and Clarence Osburn Jr. of Carrier Mills; and eight grandchildren, Matt Fisher, Lee Palmer, Courtney Palmer, Cody Duncan, Alexandria Vasquez, Tatiana Vasquez, Malaki Newby, and Heather Nally.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed, Jim, and Ron Osburn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the American Cancer Society.
Clifford Beanum Morris
Clifford Beanum Morris, 75, of 417 S. Kingshighway, Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Ridgway, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1926, to Clifford Keasler and Eva May (Justice) Morris, who preceded him in death.
On May 20, 1950, he married
Carol Maxine White of Chaffee, who survives.
Mr. Morris, a veteran of WWII, was a 50-year Mason. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sikeston Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Elks, Eagles, and the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston. Mr. Morris also served as a State Farm agent for 35 years and was selected in the mid-1970s to represent State Farm as its featured agent in its national magazine advertising campaign.
Besides his wife, Mr. Morris is survived by three children, Dr. Clifford B. (Christine) Morris Jr. of Eldorado; Teresa Morris and her husband Dan Kelleher of Boerne, Texas; and Kenneth Lee (Charlotte) Morris of St. Charles, Mo. He is also survived by six grandchildren, including Clifford III "Kip" Morris of San Francisco, Tiffany Morris of Overland Park, Kan., Bethany Morris of Eldorado, Blaine (Sherri) Morris of Austin, and Valerie and Marshall Morris of St. Charles. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Edgar (Margaret) Morris of Mobile, Alabama, Dr. David (Nannette) Morris of Sikeston, Ruby (Orville) Lankford of Memphis, Tenn., and Pearl (Adolph) DeBoard of Wood River. He was preceded in death by one brother, R.L. Morris of Phoenix, Ariz. and two sisters, Carrie Raben of Ridgway and Opal Nicholson of Memphis.
Blanchard Funeral Home in Sikeston is in charge of the arrangements. There will be visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. A luncheon will be held at the Sikeston First United Methodist Church at noon Thursday, June 6, 2002, with the funeral at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park in Sikeston. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston.
Robert Virgil Pease
Robert Virgil Pease, 68, of Cherokee Village, Ariz., formerly of New Haven, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at St. Bernard's Regional Hospital in Arkansas.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Union Ridge cemetery near New Haven with the Rev. Joe Skaggs officiating. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. Arrangements are in the charge of Cox & Son Funeral Home in New Haven.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Dean Pease of Cherokee Village, Ark.; a daughter; a son; a sister; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; seven grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
Robert 'Bob' Thomas
Robert "Bob" Thomas, 62, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Galatia, passed away Tuesday, July 30, in Orlando. He was the son of the late Howard and Velva Thomas.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Baltazar) Duarte of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Richard Dale of Aubrey, Texas and a granddaughter, Jadzia Duarte of Orlando, Fla.
He is also survived by four brothers, Kenneth of Peoria, Harold (Louise) of Peoria, Darrell (Janet) of Galatia, Charles (Linda) of Mesa, Ariz.; four sisters, Laverne Jane (John) Dardeen of O'Fallon, Lena Mae (Darrell) Bosecker of Elkville, Sharon (Frank) Stone of Raleigh; Hazel (Joe) Burris of Modesto, Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Mildred.
As requested, the body was cremated and burial will be in Durham cemetery in Galatia. Graveside services are pending.
Benny G. Hudnell
Benny G. Hudnell, 66, of 1103 S. Main St., Harrisburg, died 3:42 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Marion.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery with military rites by Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legions. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1936 in Harrisburg to Troyce and Lillian (Gidcumb) Ginger. On Dec. 3, 1955, he married
the former Belva Butcher, who survives.
He was a retired machinery tech for the U.S.Coast Guard. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the VFW in Interlachen, Fla.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Lillian Ginger of Harrisburg; two daughters, Dawn Hudnell of New Port, Ore. and Loraine (Richard) Hotoke of Hawaii; a son, Troyce (Heather) Hudnell of Key West, Fla. and five grandchildren.
Rachel Wargel
Rachel Wargel, 95, of Equality, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2002, surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Equality with Fr. Don Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Equality. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
She was born Aug. 8, 1906 in Harrisburg to the late James and Eva (Rudd) Yates. On April 18, 1929, she was married
to V.W. Wargel, who preceded her in death in 1978.
She was the oldest member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Equality where she had faithfully attended. She was a member of the Altar Society. She enjoyed most taking care of her family. She was a wonderful, loving and caring mother and grandmother.
She is survived by three sons, Val (Anita) Wargel of Ridgway, Jim (Kay) Wargel of Ridgway, John (Judy) Wargel of Equality; three daughters, Barbara (Bob) Naas of Norris City, Doris Ande of Eldorado and Patsy (Gene) Caswell of Evansville, Ind.; 37 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Wargel; a daughter, Nathalie Wargel; two grandsons, Mark Wargel and John Anthony "Bubby" Wargel; five brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to the VNA Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mr. John W. "Bill" Stewart, 58, of White Hall, formerly of Saline County, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He is survived by his wife, the former Meleta K. Hicks, two sons, three daughters, four brothers, one sister, and six grandchildren.
Shelby Frank Harris
Shelby Frank Harris, 57, of 209 E. Daniel Drive, Galatia, died 11:02 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Marion VA Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Hubert Bradley and Dr. James Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born July 9, 1944 in Raleigh to Sam and Blanch (Vinson) Harris.
He was a 1962 graduate of Eldorado High School and retired from Brushy Creek Mines.
He is survived by a son, Trent Allen Harris of Bicknell, Ind.; two brothers, Sam and Bill Harris of Galatia; three sisters, Jean Bradley of Raleigh, Virginia Malone of Harco, and Anna Mae Cutrell of Galatia; and a grandchild, Tyler Allen Harris of Bicknell, Ind.
