James O. 'Jimmy' Gibbons II
James O. "Jimmy" Gibbons II, 36, of 8145 Route 13 West, Carrier Mills, died 10:10 a.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday.
He was born July 7, 1965, in Elgin to James O. and Margaret "Peggy" (Pearson) Gibbons. He married
the former Trudy Hodges, who survives.
He was an Army veteran and worked as a rail tester for Sperry Rail Company.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three sons, Johnnie, Travis, and Gaylen Gibbons, all of Salt Lake City, Utah; his grandmother, Easter Pearson of Carrier Mills; and a brother, Johnnie Horn of Waco, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Nelson; and his grandparents, John "Bud" Pearson; and Everett and Anna Gibbons.
Rita Ann Bolatto
Rita Ann Bolatto, 81, of Saline Care Center, formerly of Muddy, died 4:40 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesdsay, June 12, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg with Fr. Don Abell officiating. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m.
She was born Sept. 29, 1920 in Saline County to Virgilio and Regina (Pessatto) Molinarolo. On Feb. 17, 1946, she married
Michael Bolatto, who preceded her in death on Sept. 9, 1979.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia A. (Bosco) Watson of Harrisburg, Regina Bolatto of Okawville, and Michelle (Jamie) Vincent of Central City, Ky.; a son, Joe (Lisa) Bolatto of Evansville; six grandchildren, Michael and Claire Bolatto, Michael and Ross Vincent, Erin Watson, and Andrew (Ann) Watson; a great-grandchild, Ann Lawton Watson; and two sisters-in-law, Lena Carrier and Jennie Landvatter.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Pete Molinarolo; and a sister, Adele Oliboni.
Garrett Brooks Tuthill
Garrett Brooks Tuthill, 64, of Carbondale, died 4:40 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, at Rehab & Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro.
Burial will follow cremation at Parrish cemetery in Vergennes. Vickery Funeral Chapel of Shawneetown is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by a sister, a brother, and a brother-in-law.
Marion G. Kutzler
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, there will be a private burial ceremony for the cremated remains of Marion G. Kutzler, who died April 20, 2002, in Santa Ana, Calif. She was the mother of Marilyn Landis, the grandmother of David Landis Jr. of Harrisburg and Robert Landis of Derby, Ind. The Rev. David Landis Sr. will officiate, and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
Erma Jean VanMeter
Erma Jean VanMeter, 73. of 205 Mill St., Carrier Mills, died 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at her residence.
In accordance with her wishes, her body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills with visitation after 10 a.m. The Rev. Joey Dunning will officiate.
Arrangements are in the charge of Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.
She was born Nov. 16, 1928 in Saline County to the late William R. and Roma (Nolen) Martin. On Aug. 5, 1946, she married
Caswell VanMeter, who survives.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a past member of the Eastern Star Lodge.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Terry (Liz) VanMeter of Carrier Mills; a brother, Billy (Shirley) Martin of Harrisburg; three grandchildren, Tara (Donnie) Prather, Jody VanMeter and Jessica VanMeter, all of Carrier Mills; and three great-grandchildren, Kellcey VanMeter, Dillan Harrison and Ada Lynn Prather.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Anthony VanMeter, and two infant sisters.
The family requests flowers please be omitted. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Thelma Hollister
Thelma Hollister, 90, of Rantoul, formerly of McLeansboro, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Country Health Nursing Home in Gifford.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Hollister.
John Benedict 'Benny' Rider
John Benedict "Benny" Rider, 87, a lifelong resident of Gallatin County, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at St. Patrick's Church in Pond Settlement with Fr. Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He was born Jan. 30, 1915, on the family farm east of Ridgway to the late William and Josephine (Drone) Rider. He was married
to the former Bernice (Murphy) Rider.
He was a farmer and also ran Water Well Drilling Service for many years. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Pond Settlement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Lawrence Rider of Ridgway; two daughters, Margaret (Benny) Rash of Shawneetown and Alene (John) Shea of Junction; a brother, Vincent (Louise) Rider of Ridgway; five grandchildren, John and Ronnie Shea, David and Kevin Rash and Brenda Stuby and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and one sister.
Master Sgt. Willard 'Bill' Gobel
Master Sgt. Willard "Bill" Gobel, retired U.S. Army, passed away peacefully in his sleep when he lost his final battle with cancer on June 19, 2002.
"Sarg" was born in Cave-in-Rock on Feb. 13, 1917. He leaves his wife Ethel Mae; three sons, George, Mikel and James; daughter-in-law Valerie; sister, Irene Mann; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family expresses thanks and gratitude to his extended family, Ann, Ted and Mike Respondek and to Marion VA Hospital.
Mary Victoria Campbell
Mary Victoria Campbell, 87, of Rural Route 1, McLeansboro, died 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Dale Burzynski officiating. Burial will be in Macedonia cemetery in Macedonia. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born May 29, 1915, in Franklin County to the late Charles T. and Anna (Kutka) Nagreski Sr. She married
Hobert J. Campbell in Benton on June 12, 1937, who survives.
She was a housewife and a member of Macedonia Eastern Star Lodge No. 1028.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Hobert J. (Helen) Campbell Jr. of Macedonia; a daughter, Mary Ann (Tom) Porter of Equality; two grandchildren, Bonnie (Mike) Jones of Harrisburg and Tim (Marjorie) Porter of Eldorado; and five great-grandchildren, Miranda and Brent Jones of Harrisburg and Thomas, Drew and Gabe Porter of Eldorado.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles T. Nagreski Jr.; a son, Edward Keith Campbell; a grandson, Bryan Edward Campbell; two nieces and two nephews.
Margie Patton
Margie Patton, 68, of 141 W. Posey Ave., Shawneetown, died 12:32 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Pastor Jack Hall officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born July 8, 1934 in Shawneetown to the late General Lee and Lula (Dillon) Holloway. On Sept. 12, 1951, she married
John Robert Patton, who preceded her in death on March 11, 2002.
She was the township clerk of Gold Hill Township and a member of Shawneetown First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie (Don) Fromm of Shawneetown; a son, Robert "Radar" (Nancy) Patton of Shawneetown; five grandchildren, Derrek (Jaylyn) Fromm of Harrisburg, Chris John Fromm of Clopton, Mo., Shane Patton of Shawneetown, John Drake Patton of Shawneetown and Ronda (Robert) Deutscher of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Helen Lewis of Mt. Carmel and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Price; two brothers, Winford and Bill "Red" Holloway and two half-brothers, Clyde and Albert Murphy Holloway.
T.C. Tatum
T.C. Tatum, 67, of 161 Washington Drive, Shawneetown, died 9:31 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Jack Hall officiating and the Rev. Randall Glenn assisting. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born April 25, 1935, in Crockett County, Tenn. to Thelma (Johnson) and the late Booker T. Tatum. He married
the former Eliza Ann Walker, who survives.
He was a coal miner at Big Ridge Mine and a member of First Baptist Church in Shawneetown.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Scott of Harrisburg and Marsha (Robert) Wilson of Morganfield, Ky.; five brothers, Bill, Ewell, Frank, Bobby and Roy Tatum; seven sisters, Melvin Johnson, Patsy Tatum, Lela Tatum, Darlene Tatum, Trisha Fay Tatum and Mary Tatum; seven grandchildren, Marques Scott, Tamara Turner, Jasmine Scott, Eric (Zakia) Perry, Rashid Holder, Mekesia (Corey) Robinson and Kiante Wilson and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Walker and a sister, Peggy James.
