Charles Weidner Mills
Charles Weidner Mills, 86, of Vandalia, died 5:43 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Vandalia with the Rev. Kenneth Cox and the Rev. William Staff officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery in Vandalia with full military rites to be observed at the gravesite.
He is survived by a son, two daughters, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Bernice Curtis Lockley
Mary Bernice Curtis Lockley, 81, of Galatia, died Monday, July 1, 2002. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Mt. Pleasant Social Brethren Church with the Rev. Blake Bradley and the Rev. Hubert Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Hill cemetery in Broughton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro and 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church.

Mildred Louise Hosick
Mildred Louise Hosick, 82, of McLeansboro, died 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at her residence. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Ken Cook officiating. Burial will be in Palestine cemetery No. 2 in Omaha. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at the funeral home.

Max L. Quick
Max L. Quick, 82, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Eldorado, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home in Clarksville. Burial is at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Georgia Raybourn
Georgia Raybourn, 95, of Raleigh, died Thursday, July 4, 2002. Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Nolan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is noon to service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Beatrice Fromm
Beatrice Fromm, 88, of Enfield, died Thursday, July 4, 2002. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Enfield. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield.
The rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Church cemetery in Enfield.

Lila Johnson
Lila Johnson, 77, 512 N. Friend St., Carrier Mills, died 3:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the home of her granddaughter, Rhonda Goolsby.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Steve Shey will officiate. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born July 23, 1925, in Stonefort to Olen and Opal (Martin) Parton. She married Kenneth Johnson Oct. 8, 1962. He preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1995.
She was a member of the Church of God and was retired from Starkey's Market in Carrier Mills.
In addition to her mother, Opal Yahne, she is survived by two grandchildren, Rhonda and Shannon Goolsby; one great-grandchild, Haley Lin Goolsby; and a special friend, George Dudley.
In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Walton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Donations may be left at the funeral home.

Melvin Wallace Willis
Melvin Wallace Willis, 87, of 217 W. McClernand Ave., Shawneetown, died 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hogan cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born May 31, 1915, in Shawneetown to the late Charles W. and Lillie May (Eddings) Willis. On Aug. 30, 1958, he married the former Bernita Belle Knowles, who survives.
He was a farmer. He was a veteran of the World War II Air Force and a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jonnie Kay Shirk of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Michael (Ruth) Nolen of Henderson, Ky.; two sisters, Norma Rose and Lawrence Rich of Evansville, Ind., and Donna Rebecca Hirsch of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Matthew Kelly; a brother, William Robert Willis and three sisters, Elizabeth Jane Seaman, Wilma Ruth Johnson and Geneva Stottlemyer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.

Frederick 'Fred' Owen
Frederick "Fred" Owen, 74, died 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Berean Baptist Church in Bunker Hill. Burial will be in Bunker Hill City cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Landers Funeral Home in Bunker Hill.

John Robert Rann
John Robert Rann, 61, 206 Pyle St., Carrier Mills, died 8:42 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Marla Lane will officiate. Burial will be in Providence cemetery, Carrier Mills. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at the funeral chapel.
He was born Feb. 20, 1941, in Harrisburg to Robert and Freda (Cowsert) Rann, who survive. He married Judye Winters on July 10, 1961.
He was a Baptist by faith, and a former member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 318. He was employed as an electrician and repairman at a coal mine.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Gary (Renee) Rann of Ft. Shaw, S.C., and Eric Rann of Carrier Mills; one daughter, Tammy (Mike) Syers of Carrier Mills; five brothers, Ronnie (Brenda) Rann of Harrisburg, Roger (Carol) Rann of Raleigh, Fred (Sue) Rann of Indianapolis, Randy (Donna) Rann of Raleigh and Jerry (Nancy) Rann of Herod; three grandchildren, Alyssa Syers, Dustin Rann and Bradley Rann.

Lila Johnson, 77, North Friend Street, Carrier Mills, died 3:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at the residence of her granddaughter, Rhonda Goolsby.
Arrangements are pending from Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home, Carrier Mills.

Mary Carmickle Schaeffer
Mary Carmickle Schaeffer, 68, of Mayfield, Ky., formerly of Cave-in-Rock, died 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Cave-in-Rock. Burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock.
She was a member of Keeling Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Mike Willie of Mayfield, Ky., Larry Willie of Sedalia, Ky., and Rex Laughlin of Hickory, Ky.; two daughters, Mary Ragan of Harrisburg and Lillie Martin of Banberg, Germany; three brothers, Seba Carmickle of Harrisburg, Francis Carmickle of Shawneetown and Cecil "Tandy" Carmickle of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Schaeffer; her parents, Cornelius Van and Anna Mae Carmickle; one infant child; five brothers and four sisters.

Alfred Gene 'Tutter' Austin
Alfred Gene "Tutter" Austin, 73, a resident of the Carrier Mills Nursing Home, died 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery with military graveside honors. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Carrier Mills to the late Loren C. and Osbia (Wallace) Austin.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrier Mills. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 364 of Carrier Mills. He was a retired laborer.
He is survived by a sister, Frances Thornton of Harrisburg; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Perry, Lee and Paul Austin and a sister, Muriel Thomas Patton.

Carol McNew
Carol McNew, 78, of Raleigh, died 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at her residence in Raleigh.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Kendall Jones officiating. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born June 8, 1924, in Saline County to the late William and Mary Ada (Evans) Turner.
She was a member of the Land Street Missionary Baptist Church of Harrisburg and a retired waitress from John's Cafe.
She is survived by a brother, Gifford Turner of Crossville and a sister, Helen Wells of Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands.
