Clifton Farris McAuley
Clifton Farris McAuley, 76, of Harrisburg, died 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Funeral and burial will follow in Blytheville, Ark. He was born Feb. 9, 1926 in Morley, Mo. to Will and Mattie (Canada) McAuley. On Nov. 10, 1950, he married
Bonnie Goff, who preceded him in death Nov. 15, 1968. In January 1974, he married
Ruby Campbell, who preceded him in death March 15, 2002.
He was a machinist for a printing company and was a veteran of the U.S. Marines in Korea.
He is survived by four sons, Larry McAuley of Brookfield, Terry McAuley of Forest Park, Raymond Williams of Bloomingdale and Don Williams of Carol Stream; three daughters, Susan Ray of Lynn Haven, Fla., Donna Walden of Harvard, and Sandra McAuley (fiance Bradley Kiehl) of Brookfield; a brother, Bob McAuley of Memphis, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren, Dave, Jenny, T.J., DeAnne and Staci Williams; Danny and Allen Ray; Kelly and Eric Hintz; Michael, Laura, Bonnie, Kathy, Kelly and Mary and a great-grandchild, Michael Jr.
Edwin Penick
Edwin Penick, 77, of 240 Vine St., New Burnside, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at his residence.
At Mr. Penick's request, he will be cremated. There will be no services or visitation. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Newport, Ky. on Nov. 25, 1924, to the late Hubert and Estelle (Cook) Penick.
He was a retired mechanic.
He is survived by a sister, Nora Zaranti of New Burnside; a brother, Elbert Penick of Newport Richey, Fla. and a daughter, Carolyn Barr of Indiana.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Vivian 'Teenie' Murray
Vivian "Teenie" Murray, 96, of 510 Boyd St., Eldorado, died 4:50 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Lindale cemetery between Harrisburg and Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born July 25, 1906 in Eldorado to Eston and Susan (Byrd) Allyn. She married
Jimmy Murray, who died March 17, 1987.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Bob Murray of Eldorado and James (Barbara) Murray of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Sonny Allyn of Springerton; five grandchildren, John Murray of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Jim (Dena) Rilying, of Flagstaff, Ariz., Susan Murray of Camp Verde, Ariz., Tina Murray of Prescott Valley, Ariz. and Jim (Kay) Roberts of Eldorado; five great-grandchildren, Tosha Lopez, J.R. Russell, Misty Matthews, Tyler Murray and Brooke Roberts and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters.
Lydia Sorado Mugge
Lydia Sorado Mugge, 83, of Harrisburg, died 12:47 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Lyons officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1918 in Stonefort to Verner E. and Ethel (Gross) Joyner. She married
Hudson Mugge, who preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a member of the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church and the Woman's Club, PEO. She was the pianist for many years at her church.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Michael (Diane) Mugge of Murphysboro; two stepdaughters, Marilyn McGeorge Procter of Tucson, Ariz. and Phyllis Bartlow of Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund.
Linda Helen Volkert
Linda Helen Volkert, 50, of Rosiclare, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare with the Rev. Leonard Largent officiating.
Burial wiill be in Dixon/Volkert cemetery in Elizabethtown. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mabel L. Hampstein Linder
Mabel L. Hampstein Linder, 67, of Bloomington, Ind., died 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at the home of her daughter.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Palestine. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son, two daughters, four grandsons, an adopted grandson, two great-grandchildren, a brother and a sister.
Alice M. (Payne) Teffertiller
Alice M. (Payne) Teffertiller, 79, of McLeansboro, died 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Russell McNalty officiating.
Burial will be in I.O.O.F. cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was the wife of Bert Teffertiller of McLeansboro.
Flossie May Thomas
Flossie May Thomas, 89, of Harrisburg, died 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at the Harrisburg Care Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum and the Rev. Floyd Dorris officiating. Burial will be in Wise-Robinson cemetery near Ozark. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Friday with Eastern Star rites at 11 a.m.
She was born May 15, 1913, in New Burnside to the late Orlin A. and Pearl (Wheeler) Wise. On Oct. 16, 1932, she married
E.T. Thomas, who preceded her in death on May 23, 1985.
She was a member of Carrier Mills First Baptist Church. Order of Eastern Star Chapter 31 of Stonefort, the American Legion Auxiliary No. 167 of Harrisburg, Auxiliary to the VFW No. 1301 of Marion and Ladies Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 2457 of Marion.
She is survived by a son, John W. Thomas and a daughter, Alice Hankins, both of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Geri (John) Thilking of Virginia and Rhonda (Carl) Smith of Missouri; two grandsons, Larry Hankins of Harrisburg and John (Jackie) Thomas II of West Virginia; six great-grandsons, Jeffrey, Brian and David Thilking of Virginia; Colt Smith of Missouri and Brian and Eric Thomas of West Virginia; three great-granddaughters, Stephanie Smith of Missouri and Felicia and Katilin Thomas of West Virginia; a great-great-grandson, Levi William Cypret of Missouri; a sister, Mary Simmons of Michigan; a brother, James Wise of California and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters, a son-in-law and a grandson.
Bandy Warren
Bandy Warren, 83, of Golconda, passed away at his home Tuesday, June 11, 2002.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, at Hosick Funeral Home-Rottmann Chapel in Golconda with Bro. Bob Patton officiating. Burial will be in Peters Creek in rural Elizabethtown. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was a member of Dutton Chapel General Baptist Church. He served in the army from June 8, 1944 to July 15, 1946 during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Grethel of Golconda; two daughters, Emma (Deon) Joiner of Dixon Springs and Marie Warren of Golconda; a sister, Louise Conley of New Burnside; a grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and John Warren; and four sisters, Clara Ralph, Alene Rodgers, Martha Groves and infant Josie.
Thelma Whiteside
Thelma Whiteside, 84, formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at the Collinwood Nursing Home in Plano, Texas.
She was born on Dec. 23, 1917, in Stonefort to Alvin and Clara Evetts Nicholson. She is survived by her husband, Rolla (Whitey) Whiteside and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in February of this year.
For many years, they owned and operated the Stylette Beauty Salon in Harrisburg.
She is survived by three children: Elaine Boren, Dallas, Texas; Trevor (Louise) Whiteside, Plano, Texas; and Judy (Jay) Waite, Carrollton, Texas. Six grandchildren include Lisa (Boren) DeMaster, Price, Linda (Boren) Given, Carmel, Ind.; T.J. Whiteside and Thad Whiteside, Price, Utah; Kimberly (Waite) Camp, Snellville, Ga.; Jae Lynn (Waite) Rangel, Lewisville, Texas; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Sisters surviving are Margaret Rosenkilde, Walnut Creek, Calif.; twin sister Velma Hall, Stonefort; brother Loyd Nicholson, Carrier Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Tom Whiteside; seven brothers and sisters: Thomas Everett Nicholson, Ruby Russell, Vernell Nicholson, Earl Nicholson, Ruth Church, Bonnie Jean Paden and Betty Richerson.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Robinson cemetery in Ozark. A memorial service was held Tuesday in Plano, Texas.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Robinson cemetery.
