Steve Eric Farrar, 47, of Torrance, Calif., formerly of Carrier Mills, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Lakeview cemetery in Carrier Mills. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.
He was born in Harrisburg on June 19, 1954, to Dean and Marilyn (Allen) Farrar, who survive.
He was a salesman for E-Linnex Computer Software Company and a Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Eviana Louise Farrar of San Diego, Calif., two sisters, Lorna Alexia Farrar of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lisa Denise (Donald) Ailsworth of Tulsa, Okla.; two nieces, Dona Lisa Heritage Ailsworth and Dawna Milagra Ailsworth, both of Tulsa; and several aunts and uncles.
Janet Matthews
Janet Matthews, 58, Marion, died 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
She was born in Nov. 12, 1943 in Watertown, S.D. to Ralph and Lorraine (Marquardt) Miller. She married
Ronald Matthews in 1968. He survives.
She worked in retail sales at Dillard's department store.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Matthews of Marion; two sisters, Sylvia Peterson of North Carolina and Joyce Larson of Minnesota; and three brothers, Kenny Miller of Texas, Frank Miller of South Dakota and Marve Miller of Iowa.
Charles W. Reed
Charles W. Reed, 74, of Harrisburg, passed away 9:57 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002. He was a developer and builder for 35 years, and a loving father. He was active in the community and church community. He enjoyed traveling and had the love for nature and the outdoors. He was a loving and caring man.
He is survived by three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Reed of Harrisburg, Mr. and Mrs. Dave (Pat) Reed of Eldorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Kris) Reed of Wabash, Ind.; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gloria Jean (Mel) Luton of Lynn Haven, Fla.; two brothers, Ronald Arlie Reed of Eldorado and James Daniel Reed of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Nora Rae Gidcumb and Marie Claspell, both of Evansville, Ind.; several nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was born March 3, 1928, in Burnwell, W. Va., to Jacob Earl and Helen (Boyd) Reed.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Earl Reed.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Eldorado.
John Wiley 'Butch' Russell
John Wiley "Butch" Russell, 51, of McLeansboro, died 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried and the Rev. Ron Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Smith cemetery near Dale. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
James Lee 'Jake' Whitlock
James Lee "Jake" Whitlock, of 8300 Maysville Road Apt. 2009, Ft. Wayne, Ind., formerly of Raleigh, died 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Golden Years Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Golden Years Nursing Home Chapel, 8300 Maysville Road, Ft. Wayne, Ind. with the Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery in Raleigh. Arrangements are in the charge of Northeast Indiana Cremation Society.
He was born Aug. 31, 1919 in Raleigh to Lee and Lola (Baines) Whitlock. He married
the former Mildred Cable, who survives.
He grew up in Harrisburg and lived in Marion, Ind. until 1974 when he moved to Ft. Wayne. He was a plant superintendent at Fisher Body in Marion and a teacher for eight years before working at General Motors for 34 years. He was a Staff Sgt., 37th Army Division, 4th infantry. He was a member of the Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church and the Taylor Chapel Choir.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Michael of Ft. Wayne and Gordon Robert of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Jan Tindall of Ft. Wayne; a sister, Grace Wilkinson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Edward J. Malkowski
Edward J. Malkowski, 70, of 1029 Delavan St., Lincoln, died 4:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Zion cemetery east of Ozark. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1931 in Illinois to the late Joseph E. and Martha (Jordan) Malkowski. On May 10, 1958, he married
Violet Mitchell of Stonefort in Calumet City, and she survives.
He was retired from Western Union Telegraph. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Lincoln and a Navy veteran who served on the USS Fulton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan L. Rowe of Argenta and a son, Edward Franklin Malkowski of Champaign; three grandsons and three granddaughters.

Lou Ella Engels, 76, of Harrisburg, died 7:05 p.m Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Sunset Hill cemetery. The Rev. Don Abell will officiate. Visitation is 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
She was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Rock Island to Peter C. and Winifred J. (Tobin) Engels.
She worked at Coleman Tri-County Services.

Beulah L. Hudgins, 94, of Harrisburg, died 9:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Jack Hood officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 17, 1908 in Muddy to James Houston and Elizabeth (Berry) Van Bibber. She married

Otto Harper, who preceded her in death in 1940. She then married
Orb Hudgins, who preceded her in death in 1983.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of God in Harrisburg.
She is survived by a son, Jack (Joan) Harper of Tamarac, Fla.; a stepson, Charles Hudgins of Minneapolis, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Harper of Hendersonville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Harper of Cape Coral, Fla., Rob Harper of St. Louis, Mo., Martha Yeahquo of Peachland, N.C. and Diane Harper of Hempstead, N.Y.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Otto Harper Jr. and a grandchild, Terry Harper.

Curtis Schnake, 49, of Golconda, died 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his residence.
Services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda with the Rev. Roy Lee Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff cemetery. Visitation was after 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 28, 1953 in Rosiclare to June (Trammell) and the late Garland Schnake. He was divorced.
He was a Protestant.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Debbie Schnake of Golconda and Tiffany Schnake of Harrisburg; three brothers, Bill Schnake of Golconda, Kenneth Schnake of rural Route 1, Simpson and Dale Schnake of Golconda; a granddaughter, Katlyn Schnake of Golconda and two nieces, Reginna Perry of Las Vegas, Nev. and Cecelia Pesci of Murphysboro.

Cyril LeRoy Humm, of rural Route 1, Golconda, died 6:11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, at his residence.
Services were held 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, rural Route 1, Elizabethtown, with Father Donald Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Church cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare with a rosary at 7 p.m.
He was a member of the Holy Name Sorority and a master musician.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby (Lawrence) Humm of rural Route 1, Golconda; a son, Jeffrey (Sharon) Humm of rural Route 1, Golconda; two daughters, Mary Vaughn of rural Route 1, Golconda and Vickie (Roger) Hobbs of Norris City; a brother, Herman Cletus "Babe" Humm of Palm Harbor, Fla. and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Francis W. Humm; his mother, Regina "Rena" (Koch) Humm; three brothers, Edward Humm, Joseph J. Humm and Raymond W. Humm and three sisters, Albertean J. Hosick and Lillian F. Humm.
