Janet Matthews
Janet Matthews, 58, Marion, died 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Mrs. Matthew has been cremated as to her wishes. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that no flowers be sent and in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born in Nov. 12, 1943 in Watertown, S.D. to Ralph and Lorraine (Marquardt) Miller. She married
Ronald Matthews in 1968. He survives.
She worked in retail sales at Dillard's department store.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Matthews of Marion; two sisters, Sylvia Peterson of North Carolina and Joyce Larson of Minnesota; and three brothers, Kenny Miller of Texas, Frank Miller of South Dakota and Marve Miller of Iowa.
Carl Millis
Carl Millis, 86, a resident of the Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, died 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born May 14, 1916 in Harrisburg to William and Nora (Wheatly) Millis. On Sept. 24, 1938, he married
LaVerne Rice, who preceded him in death on June 10, 1995.
He was retired from Prairie Farms Dairy and was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church. He was a deacon of Dorrisville Baptist Church, a past member of Harrisburg School Board for over 30 years, a former member of the Police and Fire Merit Board for many years and a WWII Air Force Veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Tom) Barton of Harrisburg and Susie (Bob) McGehee of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren, Carl (Teresa) Pickering, Ryan McGehee, Janet Lawrence and Kevin (Beth) Barton; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, B.A. and Blane Lawrence, Aaron Pickering, Cristina Harmon and J.T. Barton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Carrie Pickering.

Lou Ella Engels, 76, of Harrisburg, died 7:05 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Goldie Skaggs
Goldie Skaggs, 85, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Eldorado, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with Herb Buche officiating. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery between Harrisburg and Eldorado. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born April 2, 1917, in White City, Kan., to Richard Herman and Paula Elizabeth (De-Ham) Liebsch. She married
Gerald Skaggs, who preceded her in death in 1993.
She was a member of the Eldorado First Christian Church and had owned and operated with her husband HiWay Electric. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Terry "Paula" Fillingim of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Richard Liebsch of Atkinson, Kan., and John Liebsch of St. Peters, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Tim and Tricia Fillingim of Evansville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Regina Continuing Care or First Christian Church of Eldorado.
Marilyn Kay Browning
Marilyn Kay Browning, 50, of 1207 W. Largent St., Harrisburg, died 7:07 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Liberty cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 5, 1951, in Harrisburg to the late Willie and Thelma Dee (Penrod) Stone. On June 29, 1996, she married
William Ronnie "Bill" Browning, who survives.
She was a sewing machine operator at Heartland USA and Nationwide Glove Company. She was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, William J. "B.J." (Carla) Browning of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Lisa Jo (Thelm) Thell of St. Louis, Mo.; three sons, Randy (Lorie) Cox, Chris Cox and Jeremy (Erin) Cox, all of Harrisburg; 12 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; six sisters, Alberta Wright of Harrisburg, Wanda (Gene) Reed of Marion, June (Darold) Winkleman of Beaver Dam, Ky., Naomi (Paul) Rogers of Lake of Egypt, Ann (David) Hinant of Harrisburg, Cindy Messamore (and Dwight Boulds) of Harrisburg and two brothers, Willie (Carol) Stone of Annandale, Va., and Bobby (Kris) Stone of Carrier Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Stone, in infancy. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Audie Henshaw
Audie Henshaw, 91, of Harrisburg, passed away 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.

She is the widow of Louie Henshaw.
Donald 'Don' Capel
Donald "Don" Capel, 67, of Spring Lake, Mich., formerly of Carrier Mills, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at his residence.

Ferne Fulkerson
Ferne Fulkerson, of Spearman, Texas, formerly of Harrisburg, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Spearman.
The funeral service and visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Fulkerson of Texas; two daughters and a sister.
Local arrangements are in the charge of Reed Funeral Home.
Lavina Stein Rice
Lavina Stein Rice, 100, of Harrisburg, died at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home on Wednesday, June 19. She was born to Christopher and Kathryn (Matz) Stein January 28, 1902, in Carmi.
She also lived in Evansville, Ind. where she became a Registered Nurse after graduating from Welborn Hospital's School of Nursing. She came to Harrisburg to work at the Harrisburg Hospital. At one time she was a Public Health Nurse. She also worked at Lightner Hospital and Galatia Nursing Home as Nursing Supervisor.
She married
O.D. Rice April 2, 1927 in Marion. They were long time members of the First Presbyterian Church of Harrisburg. They had a son, Glen (Barbara) Rice of Swansea; a daughter, Jane (Sam) Stafford of Harrisburg; two grandsons, Christopher (Kim) Rice of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Douglas (Angela) Stafford of Thompsons Station, Tenn.; two granddaughters, Jill (Ralph) Crago of Gilbert, Ariz., Elizabeth (Larry) Pittsley of Urbana; four great-grandchildren, Claire and Will Crago and Carson and Noah Stafford.
Services will be conducted by Gaskins Funeral Home with the Rev. Judith Beyler presiding. Burial will be at Sunset Lawn cemetery 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial services at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church, Friends of the Library, SIC Foundation (Fine Arts Department), or Hospice of Southern Illinois in Marion.
Arthur Tarrence
Arthur Tarrence, 80, of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Ridgway, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, in Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Doughty-Calhoun-O'Mears Funeral Home in Bakersfield. Burial will be in California. Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway is in charge of the local arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Tarrence of Bakersfield; three daughters; one brother; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mary Emily (Wallace) Edwards
Mary Emily (Wallace) Edwards died 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. She was born Dec. 26, 1911, in Eldorado to Guy and Chloe (Nash) Wallace and graduated in 1929 from Eldorado Township High School.
She worked for the U.S. Treasury Department.
In 1936, she married
Jesse N. Edwards, who preceded her in death in 1996. After living in Chicago, Detroit and Newburgh, Ind., they settled in Carmi in 1948, where Jesse was engaged in the oil business.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carmi and the Women's Circle, the Newburgh Historical Society, the Junior League of Carmi, the White County Garden Club and she was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church in Carmi.
She is survived by two sons, John N. (Pat) Edwards of Blacksburg, Va., and Jeff S. Edwards of Chicago; a grandson, J.D. (Nancy) Edwards; a close friend, John Constant; three sisters, Martha Helen Williams of Matteson; Louise Wilson of Eldorado; Nell Wilson of Tinley Park; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ellen Wallace of Harrisburg and 10 nieces and nephews and their spouses. She also is survived by two first cousins, Sue Sterling and Peggy Horton, both of Eldorado.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and James Wallace.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado with the Rev. Jennifer Lewis and the Rev. Walter Baker officiating.
Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
The body will lie in state at the church 10 a.m. to service time Friday.
