Patsy S. Holland, 63, of rural Route 5, McLeansboro, died 2:51 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. John Lee Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Blooming Grove cemetery near McLeansboro. Visitation is noon to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Holland; her mother; three sons; two daughters; two brothers; two sisters and 11 grandchildren.
Abigail Sauls
Abigail Sauls, 84, of Ridgway, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at her residence in Ridgway, surrounded by her children.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Bud Sork officiating. Burial will be in Jackson cemetery in Ridgway. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Ridgway to the late Burl and Beulah (Hinkle) Dodge. She was married
to Estel Sauls, who preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a homemaker, a loving mother and a grandmother. She was a member of the Church of God.
She is survived by three sons, Lonnie (Sandy) Sauls of Ridgway, Lenny and Carolyn Sauls of Shawneetown and Kevin Sauls of Ridgway; two daughters, Anita Anderson of Eldorado and Lodema (Ralph) Nelson of Alvin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Estel Leon Sauls; a daughter, Wanda Tucker and a brother and sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
William Albert Dempsey Jr.
William Albert Dempsey Jr., 84, of 207 Westwood St., East Alton, died 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Jefferson Barracks V.A. Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with the Rev. Jim Howard officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born March 16, 1918, in Shawneetown to the late William and Emily (Head) Dempsey. On July 26, 1962, he married
the former Grace Lawrence, who preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1995.
He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the WWII Army. He worked at the Tube Mill of Laclede Steel for 30 years.
He is survived by a sister, Fannie Mae Brazier of Shawneetown; a sister-in-law, Wilma Dempsey of East Alton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Heath and Almira Collins and a brother, Robert E. Dempsey.
Donations may be made to Woodriver Masonic Lodge and Jefferson Barracks V.A. Medical Center Hospice.
Louise (Vaughn) Page
Louise (Vaughn) Page, 87, of Newton, formerly of Harrisburg, died 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at the Newton Rest Haven in Newton.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton with Gary Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn cemetery in Newton. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
She is survived by a son, two grandsons, and five great-grandchildren.
Robert W. 'Bob' Gowdy
Robert W. "Bob" Gowdy, 86, of 603 Main St., Carrier Mills, died 1:05 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Victor Long officiating. Burial will be in Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1915, in White County to the late William and Daisy (Weirauch) Gowdy. On Dec. 31, 1941, he married
Lela "Tootie" Thompson Gowdy, who survives.
He was a retired farmer and a member of First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills. He was a former member of the Egyptian Bancshares Board of Directors and Carrier Mills Village Board.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Claudia (Rodney) Deuel of Carrier Mills and Carol (Joe) Dagley of Marion; three brothers, John Gowdy I of Carrier Mills, Eugene Gowdy of Carmi, and Clinton Gowdy of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Margaret Bohleber of Carmi and Leona McMullen of Kankakee; four grandchildren, Willie (Katy) Deuel, Scott (Leah) Deuel, Missy (Brad) Rigsby and Kristina Dagley; and six great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Anthony, and Carter Deuel, Bethany Deuel and Patrick and Alexis Rigsby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Gowdy.

David Donald Wallace
David Donald Wallace, 73, of Galatia, died 12:15 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with Dr. James Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Webber Campground cemetery in Galatia. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born May 28, 1929, in Galatia to Otis and Myrtle (Lewis) Wallace.
He was a member of the Galatia Fire Department for several years and was a retired Navy veteran, serving 20 years in Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by three half-brothers, John Wallace Hammond and Ralph Wallace Hammond, both of Indiana, and Paul Harold Lewis of Harrisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five half-brothers, Jim, Gene and Leman Wallace, and Philip and Maynard Lewis.
Paul Wendell Hickman
Paul Wendell Hickman passed away Saturday, June 22, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born March 11, 1912, in Dongola to Alonzo and Loi Hickman.
Mr. Hickman was married
to Wilma Whittington until her death in 1995. In June 1996 he married
Opal Hale in Raleigh, where they reside. He is survived by his wife, one daughter and son-in-law, Paula Sue and Thomas Borgra of Christopher; three stepchildren, Donna and Ed Kosowski of Cookeville, Tenn., Connie and Richard Beelendorf of Savannah, Ga., and Jack and LInda Hale of West Haven, Utah. Two nephews, Mike and Scott Pritchard of Benton, also survive.
Mr. Hickman was a professional photographer. He owned Paul's Studios in Benton for several years. Paul loved to golf and he and his wife enjoyed winters in Mission, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley.
Paul was an officer of the Last Man's Club, World War II Veterans-American Legion, and the Masons. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Benton.
Mr. Hickman's wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at Morton and Johnson Funeral Home in Benton 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.

Wallace Addis, 87, of 1305 1/2 East Boulevard, Marion, died 6:20 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2002, at Paradise Manor in Marion.
Graveside services were held 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Golconda. Aly Funeral Home in Golconda is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by a daughter, a sister, a brother, two sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

John David Ford, 48, of Vienna, died 8:26 a.m. June 22, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Burial will be in St. John's Catholic cemetery in Piopolis. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
