A memorial service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Fr. Joseph Trapp will officiate. The body has been cremated and the remains will be interred in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Richard Wayne "Dickie" Rose
Richard Wayne "Dickie" Rose, 40, of Cave-in-Rock, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at 6:44 p.m. in Lourdes Hospital at Paducah, Ky.
Surviving are his mother, Shirley Rose of Cave-in-Rock; his wife, Shannon Rose of Cave-in-Rock; five sons, Jeff Rose of Fort Meade, Md., Justin Rose of Harrisburg, Marcus Rose of Moro, Darren Vaughn and Catlin Vaughn, both of Cave-in-Rock; two daughters, Brittani Rose and Cortney Rose, both of Moro; three brothers, Eddie Rose of Elizabethtown, Danny Rose and Dennis Rose, both of Cave-in-Rock; and a sister, Sandra Conkel of Elizabethtown.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Dale Rose in 1994.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Rutherford cemetery with military services at the cemetery.
Paul William Wargel
Paul William Wargel, 70, of 1316 Walnut St., Eldorado, died 6:05 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado with Father Don Abell officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Equality to George and Johanna (Naas) Wargel. He married
Mariam (Hale) Wargel.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member and trustee of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a veteran of the Korean War and Past Commander of the Eldorado VFW.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Vickie DeGianto of Edwardsville and Judy Phillips of Raleigh; four brothers, James Wargel of Mt. Carmel, Don Wargel, Larry Wargel and Fred Wargel, all of Eldorado; five sisters, Lillian Miller of Evansville, Ind., Shirley Wolf of Evansville, Emily Bridges of Henderson, Ky., Mary Rabe of Montana and Linda Wargel of Eldorado; seven stepgrandchildren and eight great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hobbs.
Samuel David Nash
Samuel David Nash, 55, of Camp Point, formerly of Eldorado, died at his home (Staff Assisted Independent Living) in Camp Point on Monday, Aug. 26, 2002.
Samuel David Nash, known as "David," was born Dec. 4, 1946, at Ferrell Hospital to Evelyn Marie Nash, who preceded David in death in 1996.
David attended special education classes, having been disabled from birth from cerebral palsy. In spite of his disability, David was active in political affairs and cerebral palsy advocacy groups during his residency in Springfield, where prior to moving to Camp Point, he had maintained his own assisted living residence. David was well known by fellow cerebral palsy patients and caregivers alike as a good-natured, intelligent and devoted friend.
Friends may call at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Wolf Creek. The Rev. Donald Pritchard, a lifelong friend of David's, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in David's memory to "Camp Point SAIL Home, 102 E. Spring, Camp Point, Illinois, 62320.
Delmar Hedger Jr.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Geils Funeral Home in Wood Dale for former Eldorado resident Delmar "Jr." Hedger, who passed away at his home after a brief illness. He was born on Oct. 26, 1931, to Delmar and Kittie Mae Feuquay Hedger and attended Beulah Heights Grade School and the local high school. He also served in the Korean War.
Sadly missing him are his wife of over 41 years, Mary; daughter Kathy (Gene) Brierton, also of Wood Dale; Nancy Hedger of Streamwood, Amy (John) Speiden of Beasenville, David (Sharon) Hedger of Streamwood and Jennifer Hedger of Galesburg. Also grieving the loss are brother Wade (Margaret) Hedger of Harrisburg; sister Kitty (Fred) Edwards of Scheller, sister Janet (John) Lytle of Norris City and brother Skip (Sheila) Hedger of Springfield. Adoring grandchildren left behind are Kyle Brierton, Jarod Speiden and Kaitlyn, Julia and Peyton Hedger. God blessed our family with this loving husband, dad, grandpa and brother.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Alice Carol Hedger, Thelma Smith and Shirley Pearce.
James E. Broadway
James E. Broadway, 80, of Armstrong, Mo. formerly of the Rocky Branch area of Equality, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Moberly Regional Hospital.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at Walnut Hill cemetery in Armstrong with the Rev. Harold Young officiating. Visitation was 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, Mo.
He was the widower of Florence A. Smith. He is survived by three stepdaughters, four stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, a son, a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren, three great-stepgrandchildren and a number of relatives.
Tommy Ray Burlison
Tommy Ray Burlison, 49, of Thompsonville, died 5:33 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Don King officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
He was born Nov. 11, 1952, in Christopher to the late Oscar and Mary (Springs) Burlison.
He was a farmer and a member of Ebenezer Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a son, Ryan Burlison of Galatia; a daughter, Beth Burlison of Galatia; a stepson, Bobby Travelstead of Calif.; a stepdaughter, Jimmie Travelstead of Thompsonville; two brothers, Arthur of Columbia and Donald of Bourbonnais; a sister, Marie Smothers of Galatia; and a stepgranddaughter, Kristin Travelstead of Thompsonville.
Ray Paris
Ray Paris, 83, of Washington, formerly of Rosiclare, died 8:17 a.m. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Edwin Beasley and the Rev. Richard Fitzwater officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Temple; one son; one daughter; and five grandchildren.
Sandra Stone
Sandra Stone, 59, of Nebraska, formerly of Harrisburg, died Sunday, June 16, 2002.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Howard V. Ledbetter
Howard V. Ledbetter, a resident of Romeo, Mich. for 30 years and formerly of East Pointe, Mich., passed away Sept. 20, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Clinton Township.
He was born April 28, 1920, the son of Goodliep and Dora (Abraham) Ledbetter in Harrisburg. Howard served in the Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He married
Blanche F. Patterson in June 1949 in Harrisburg. He was a life member of the A.F. and A.M. No. 41 where he served as tyler for many years and former member of East Detroit Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 589. Howard was a member of the VFW Post of Roseville No. 2358 and a member of the Teamsters. He worked at Peninsular Steel in Warren, retiring in 1973.
He leaves to mourn his beloved daughters, Sheila (Paul) Lyons of Pond Gap, W.Va. and Brenda (Joe) Mullins of Sterling Heights, Mich.; four beloved grandchildren, Aaron and Sarah Mullins, Becky Lyons and Amy (Kevin) Starcher and soon-to-be one great-grandbaby. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Blanche in 1993, and brothers, Norman, Vernon and Bill.
Visitation will be held 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, with a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Roth-Muir Funeral Home in Romeo, Mich. with Dr. Gary R. Glanville of the Romeo United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be made at Cadillac Memorial cemetery in Clinton Township.
Memorials may be made to the Romeo Masonic Lodge. Arrangements were entrusted to the Roth-Muir Funeral Home.
Bernedene Jackson Warren
Bernedene Jackson Warren, 87, of Pensacola, Fla. and Coral Springs, Fla. passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2002.
Mrs. Warren was born on a farm near Carrier Mills on Aug. 24, 1915 to the late Hugh and Ollie Jackson. She was a 1934 graduate of Carrier Mills High School and worked in business for several years prior to marrying her husband of 53 years in 1942. She was a homemaker and Navy wife, keeping a home for her family as well as numerous family friends who were warmly welcomed into her home. She was acclaimed by all who sat at her table to be a superb cook, she was also an avid and successful gardener, filling her yard with colorful daylilies, azaleas and camelias. As a Navy wife, she lived in Pensacola from 1948 to 1951 and from 1957 to the present.
Mrs. Warren was the widow of the late William J. Warren Sr., a retired career Navy man, and the beloved mother of two sons.
She is survived by two sons, William J. Warren Jr. of Pensacola and Golden Co. and Philip M. Warren of Coral Springs, Fla. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Warren; grandson, Michael J. Warren; granddaughter, Jennifer P. Warren, all of Coral Springs; a sister, Wilma Grable and a sister-in-law, Wilma Clark, both of Harrisburg.
Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at All Faiths Chapel, NAS, Pensacola with the Rev. Fred Zobel offociating.
Interment was 11 a.m. Monday at Barrancas National cemetery.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Dudley
Jack Dudley, 59, of 14 Acorn Drive, Harrisburg, died 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Jack Hood officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 19, 1942 in Harrisburg to Elfie (Duke) and the late Aaron Dudley.
He was a laborer at the Coleman Tri-County Workshop in Norris City. He attended the First Church of God in Harrisburg and was an award-winning Special Olympian.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Donna (Darrel) Walker of Harrisburg; a brother, David (Dawn) Dudley of Galatia; several aunts, uncles, three nieces, two nephews and a grandniece.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Saline Association for Retarded Citizens or to the First Church of God Building Fund.
