Betty Reeves
Betty Reeves, 74, of Carrier Mills, died 9:28 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at Sesser.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Coal Bank Spring cemetery at Dykersburg with Bro. Woody Wilson officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Feb. 14, 1928 in Marion.
She is survived by three children, Reg Reeves of Sesser, Sam Reeves of Galatia and Vicky Murphy of Joliet; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Raleigh Smith of Harrisburg and two sisters, Patsy Smith of Moline and Phyllis Francois of East Moline.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother, Sam Smith.
Don Briscoe
Don Briscoe of Alice, Texas, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 13, 2002, at Alice.
As per his request, the body has been cremated. A private service will be held in Texas.
He was the husband of Carolyn (Luther) Briscoe.
Faye Lehman
Faye Lehman, 81, of McLeansboro, died 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial will be in Smith cemetery near Dale. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother, two sisters, several foster grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Tommy Lewis Keown
Tommy Lewis Keown, 65, of 18370 Overton Road, Omaha, died 3:36 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Ebeneezer cemetery in Norris City. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born March 14, 1937 in Harco to James Allen and Hazel M. (Barbre) Keown. He married
the former Elsie Pearl Sallions, who survives.
He was a truck driver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tommy Lee Keown of Equality and James Keown of Eldorado; an aunt, Vivian Menkosky of Wasson; and four grandchildren, Tara, Brandon, Holden and Brooklyn Keown.
Kenneth P. Ridenour
Kenneth P. Ridenour, 85, of Harrisburg, died 3:25 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at the Harrisburg Care Center.
He was born Oct. 20, 1916 in Evansville, Ind., to the late Neil and Henrietta (Mueller) Ridenour. He married
Irma Schriefer Feb. 11, 1951. She survives.
Mr. Ridenour was a retired district manager for the Social Security Administration after 25 years of service. He was manager of the Social Security office in Harrisburg from 1967 to 1976.
He was a WWII Army veteran, and served as a paratrooper in the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, and was a 55-year member of Reed Masonic Lodge No. 316 in Evansville, Ind. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 167 in Harrisburg and the Harrisburg Rotary Club.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Service is at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at the funeral home. The Rev. Judith Beyler will officiate. Commital service will be 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Park Lawn cemetery in Evansville, Ind.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife, Irma Ridenour of Harrisburg, he is survived by three sons, Timothy Ridenour (wife Jeri) of Bartlett, David Ridenour of Springfield and Robert Ridenour of Oxnard, Calif.; two daughters, Janet Ridenour of Suffolk, Va. and Brenda Ridenour of Villa Park; a sister, Virginia Hardesty of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Samantha Ridenour, Daniel Ridenour, Brian Kenealy and Phillip Kenealy and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roland and Donald Ridenour and two sisters, Dorothy Schneider and Ruth Hinton.

William O. Richardson, 86, of 311 Mundy St., Eldorado, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at his residence.
Arrangements are pending at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Bertha E. Becker
Bertha E. Becker, 88, of Galatia, died 3:04 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg with Father Don Abell officiating. Burial was in Tates Chapel cemetery in Galatia. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
She was born April 27, 1914 in English Lake, Ind. to the late John and Katheryn Jancovich. She married
Perry Becker, who preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a housewife and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Harrisburg. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Gill of Galatia; a brother, Joseph Jancovich of Kouts, Ind.; two grandchildren, Frederick John (Sarah) Gill of Carterville and Gary Gill of Columbia, Ind. and three great-grandchildren, Afton, John and Hannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and seven sisters.
Earlene Wettaw
Earlene Wettaw, 88, of Eldorado, died 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial will be in Poplar cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born May 4, 1914 in Carmi to the late H.G. and Clara (Britton) Draper. She married
Robert Wettaw, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1979.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado and the Eldorado Eastern Star.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Rebecca) Birge of LeRoy and Mrs. Vince (Tisha) Kasiar of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Rick Marteeny and Jason, Jennifer Beth and Matthew Kasiar; three great-grandchildren, Carter Marteeny and Max and Mya Kasiar and a sister, Lyndell Scribner of Eldorado.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven; a brother, H.G. Draper Jr. and two brothers-in-law, Henry Wettaw and Bill Scribner. The family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Eldorado.
Sharon G. McGhee
Sharon G. McGhee, 53, of Old Shawneetown, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, while attending a family reunion.
Services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown with the Rev. Ruby Bolton officiating. Burial was in Union Ridge cemetery. Visitation was 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 28, 1949, in New Haven to Mildred (Combs) and the late Charles Merritt. In 1984, she married
Cletus McGhee, who survives.
She was a Protestant, a past Democratic Party precinct committeewoman in Gallatin County, a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by two sisters, Margaret Cates and Janet Hagene, both of Logansport, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry Merritt of Columbus, Ohio and Ray Merritt of Coal City; five stepchildren, Terry Clemons, Tammy Brockhouse and Cletus R. McGhee Jr., all of Chester, Francis McGhee of Clinton and Mark Anthony McGhee of Shawneetown and 11 stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Cates, a niece and a nephew.
Arthur 'Straw' Heath Sr.
Arthur "Straw" Heath Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Gallatin County, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown with the Rev. Mark Allen officiating. Burial will be in Calico cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born June 9, 1911, near Hulda Lake in Gallatin County to the late John and Margaret (Butts) Heath.
He was a farmer and carpenter most of his life. He also was the caretaker of Calico cemetery for many years.
He is survived by three sons, Arthur (Mary) Heath Jr., Ronnie Heath and Mike (Robin) Heath, all of Shawneetown; a stepson, Billy Jo Crunk of Shawneetown; a daughter, Carolyn Gillen of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Pauline Robinson of McLeansboro and Isabelle Jasperson of Chicago; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Lawrence, Claude, William, Arvel, Jack and Sherman Heath and three sisters, Mae Frields, Maude Maynard and Bertha Capeheart.
Laura Ellen Spencer
Laura Ellen Spencer, 87, of Grayville, formerly of Equality, died 8:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at Rest Haven Manor in Albion.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Equality. Visitation is noon to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 4, 1914, in Equality to Homer and Ellie (Boutwell) Crayne. On July 28, 1933, she married
Elvis Edward Spencer, who preceded her in death Dec. 22, 1977.
She was a member of Equality United Methodist Church and the Equality chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an LPN at Chicago State Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Jay) Willis of Grayville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Mae Spencer; three sisters, Mary Ripley, Mayme Carter and Anne Speer; and three brothers, Ed, Arthur and Lona "Buck" Crayne.
