Dewan Wilson, 51, of 1012 S. Hobson St., Harrisburg, died 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Charlie Curry officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery near Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 23, 1951 in Harrisburg to the late Walter and Vernice Loudean (Gribble) Wilson. On March 29, 1970, he married
the former Sandra Sherfield, who survives.
He was a retired coal miner and Maytag employee. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973 during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Rudement Social Brethren Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Shannon (Ann) Wilson of Harrisburg and Jeremy (Angie) Wilson of Centralia; a sister, Delores Stuby of Harrisburg; a brother, Lester Wilson of Bethalto; a grandchild, Bailey Wilson and special friends Steve and Diane Brown of Galatia.
Donald Lee Meacham
Donald Lee Meacham, 69, of 120 S. Land St., Harrisburg, died 1:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Sunset Gardens cemetery in Harrisburg. There will be no visitation. Those attending are to go directly to the cemetery. Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born June 13, 1933 in Harrisburg to Kendall Pete and Mae (Ford) Meacham.
He is survived by a sister, Peggy Childs of Peoria; two nephews, William David Childs of Peoria and Richard Lee Childs of Creve Coeur, Mo. and a niece, Vickie (Jerry) Schumn of Creve Coeur, Mo.
Myrtle McDonald
Myrtle McDonald, 93, of Broughton, died 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Broughton Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Gholson and the Rev. David Angelly officiating.
Burial will be in Hickory Hill cemetery near Broughton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro and noon to service time Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by two brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Viola Brunelle
Viola Brunelle, 90, of 1700 Jasper St., Eldorado, died 9:36 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Arrangements are pending at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Sarah Thompson
Sarah Thompson, 88, of Eldorado, died 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Dewayne Jolly officiating. Burial will be in Bellefontaine cemetery in Mount Vernon, Ind. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born May 7, 1914, in Mount Vernon, Ind., to Vollie and Miranda (Lopp) Ashworth. She was the widow of Clarence Thompson.
She was a legal secretary and a member of Gospel Assembly Church.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas Paul Thompson of Raleigh and Charles William Thompson of Columbia; a brother, Alfred Ashworth of Eldorado; a sister, Odessa Cox of Eldorado and three grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Hilton Ashworth and two sisters, Nellie Mattingly and Effie Ashworth.
Burel 'Ned' Foreman
Burel "Ned" Foreman, 86, of Golconda, died 5:47 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2002, at Odd Fellows cemetery in Golconda with the Rev. E.J. Cole officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Aly Funeral Home in Golconda.
He was the widower of Ruby Deweese. He is survived by a daughter, two granddaughters and a great-grandson.
Ruby Wasson
Ruby Wasson, 85, of 25 Redbud Road, Harrisburg, died 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Services will be held 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating and cremation to follow. Burial will be in Lafayette cemetery in Fayetteville, N.C. at a later date. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was born March 19, 1917 to Ed and Susa (Potts) Brown. On May 1, 1994, she married
Charles Wasson, who survives.
She was a retired optometrist's assistant and a member of First Baptist Church of Harrisburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two stepdaughters, Judy Wathen of Goreville and Jane Ellen Lightner of Raleigh; a sister, Mickey DeLee of Sun City West, Ariz.; a niece, Sondra Rouse of Waterford, Conn.; a nephew, Michael Womack of San Jose, Calif. and six stepgrandchildren, Brad, Sonya, Brian and Marilyn Wathen and Kimberly and Cody Lightner.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Cantrell and Helen Whaley.
Fern Fulkerson
Fern Fulkerson, 88, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at the Hansford Hospice in Spearman, Texas.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Spearman. Burial was at the Hansford County cemetery under the direction of the Henson Novak Funeral Home.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Patsy Gibbons, lifetime residents of Southern Illinois.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Woodrow Fulkerson, 704 Lee Drive, Spearman, Texas, 79081; two daughters, Sue Carpenter and her husband Jim of Belton, Mo., Bobbie Novak and her husband Earl of Spearman, Texas; four grandchildren, Sherie Chevalier and her husband Bruce of Belton, Mo., Jay Carpenter of Belton, Mo., Hunter Novak and his wife Bonnie of Guymon, Okla. and Cinda Haruch and her husband Jamie of Atlanta, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Ethan and Griffin Novak of Guymon, Okla., Caleb and Molly Chevalier of Belton, Mo. and Kate Haruch of Atlanta, Ga. and two sisters, Mrs. Ina Cain of Harrisburg and Mrs. Betty Raley of Houston, Texas.
In 1952 the Fulkersons moved to Phoenix, Ariz. for Fern's health. They moved to Spearman, Texas in 1980. They enjoyed living in Spearman, but Harrisburg with their family and friends was always in their hearts. Sleep well Momma.
William Otha Richardson
William Otha Richardson, 86, of 1408 Reed St., Eldorado, died 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at his daughter's residence.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born June 9, 1916 in Saline County to Oscar Richardson and Mary Elizabeth (Ladd) Kingston. On March 2, 1943, he married
Bonnie C. Richardson, who preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2000.
He was a blacksmith and worked at Electromotive in Chicago. He was a member of the Eldorado American Legion and the Eldorado Eagles.
He is survived by two daughters, Joann Kelly of Jenson Beach, Fla. and Mary Alice (Richardson) Williams of Eldorado; six grandchildren, Tina Kelly, Kim Snyder, Sebe John Kelly, Heather Bryan, Holly Ambrose and Alta Williams Kincaid; four brothers, Jack Richardson of Eldorado, Floyd P. Kingston of Naples, Fla., Flavis Kingston and Don Kingston, both of Eldorado; a sister, Sue Davenport of Evansville, Ind.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Kingston and a sister, Wilma Kingston Vickery.
Gladys H. Trent
Gladys H. Trent, 74, Shawneetown, died Aug. 23, 2002 at Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree, Ky.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home Shawneetown Chapel. The Rev. Jack Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at the funeral chapel.
She was born Sept. 17, 1927 to the late Gretchen (Tite) Trent of Eldorado. She was married
in 1963 to Frank Trent, who preceded her in death in 1995. .She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter, Starla Vaughn of Robards, Ky.; a sister, Ilene Barnard of Rosiclare; and three grandchildren, Cody, Megan and Morgan Vaughn.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Wallace.
Charles Steven 'Peaches' McGill
Charles Steven "Peaches" McGill, 46, Poseyville, Ind., died 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at the Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Norris City. Visitation is 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at the funeral home.
He was born April 18, 1956 in Flint, Mich. to Charles William and Donna Sue (Tedford) McGill. On Feb. 11, 1984, he married
Kathy Bernice Baker, who survives. He was a coal miner for the Peabody Coal Company.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Lynn Welch of Harrisburg; a son, Charles Matthew McGill of Poseyville, Ind.; his mother, Donna McGill of Metropolis; four sisters, Linda Winkleman of Harrisburg, Lanna Tolbert of Thompsonville, Kay McGill of Metropolis and Kathy Duncan of Metropolis.
