Alfred S. Wargel
Alfred S. Wargel, 82, 121 South Karber St., Ridgway, died 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ridgway, with Fr. Mark Stec officiating. Burial is in St. Joseph cemetery with military rites performed by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 at Vickery Funeral Chapel, Ridgway, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He was born Oct. 2, 1919 in Eldorado to George and Catherine (Bayer) Wargel. He married
the former Anna Marie Hish April 8, 1947. She survives.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596 and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Army during World War II and was stationed four years in Oran, Africa as a medic. He was a retired farmer, having farmed in the Gallatin County area for over 40 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Janet (Jim) Henson of Ridgway; two sons, Carl (Liz) Wargel of Port Byron and Bill (Dana) Wargel of Ridgway; six grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) of Ridgway, Wes (Tera) Henson of Ridgway, Lindsay Wargel of Port Byron, Abby Wargel of Port Byron, Kristin Wargel of Ridgway and Trent Wargel of Ridgway; four great-grandchildren, Kyler, Chloe and Grant Bosaw and Will Henson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.

John David Ewan, 84, died 12:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at Harrisburg Care Center. Arrangements are pending at the Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.

Floyd Andrew Mohler, 44, Galatia, died 7:20 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at his residence.

Betty E. York
Betty E. York, 72, of Eldorado, formerly of McLeansboro, died 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado, where she had been a patient since 1983.
Ms. York retired as a secretary for Lynn & Lynn Attorneys in the Old National Bank Building due to an illness. She graduated in 1948 as valedictorian from Mills Prairie High School and then went on to graduate from Lockyear Business College. Ms. York was a member of Gospel Assembly Church in Eldorado.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Opal M. (Hetzel) York in 1976 and her father, Leslie L. York in 1992.
She is survived by a sister, Joan (Richard) Gooch of Evansville, Ind.; a brother, Ross (Joan) York of Evansville, Ind.; two nephews, Barton L. (Deana) Gooch of Evansville, Ind., and Michael K. (Andrea) York of Eddyville, Ky.; two great-nieces, Courtney Nicole York and Megan Kelley York, both of Eddyville, Ky.; two great-nephews, Dr. Erik Gooch of Gainesville, Fla., and Cody Gooch of Evansville, Ind.; three aunts, Gladys Kistler of DeSota, Mo., Jenny Heathman of Eldorado, and Stella Hetzel of Effingham; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. L.D. Jolly officiating. Burial will be in Old Springer cemetery near McLeansboro.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
Peter 'Pete' Toth
Peter "Pete" Toth, 80, of 1415 S. Webster St., Harrisburg, died 4 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with Don Cooper officiating. Cremation is to follow services. Visitation is 6 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Harco to the late Peter and Julia Toth.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of George Hart Post No. 167 American Legion and Harrisburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. He worked 38 years at V.A. Medical Center in North Chicago as a medical aide.
He is survived by a sister, Margaret (J.R.) Tanner of Harrisburg; two cousins, Berta Palmer of Elmwood Park and Margaret Toth of Oak Park; and two nieces.
Carl Crawford
Carl Crawford, 54, of 13 Fairfax Dr., Harrisburg, died 6:18 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Rachel Berry officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 10, 1947, in Vandalia, to Lee and Anda (Walker) Crawford. He married
the former Cynthia "Cindy" Cox, who survives.
He was an accountant and partner with Crabb & Crawford Accounting in Eldorado and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Harrisburg Jaycee's and an avid hunter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" (Todd) Bittle of Harrisburg; a son, Clay Crawford of Brookline, Mass.; two sisters, Carol (Jerry) Crabb of Harrisburg and Nellie (Bob) Koons of Clinton; a brother, Dean Crawford of Mt. Airy, Md.; his mother-in-law, Margaret L. Cox of Patoka; his brother-in-law, Bill (Sandy) Cox of Patoka; two grandchildren, Patrick and Sarah Bittle of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund and left at the funeral home.
Sylvia L. Bebout
Sylvia L. Bebout, 68, of Carbondale, formerly of Rosiclare, died 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Hosick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Oglesby officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Elizabethtown. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her father, three sons, four daughters, 22 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Glendel 'Glen' Watson
Glendel "Glen" Watson, 63, of Hartford City, Ind., formerly of Eldorado, died 11:14 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado with the Rev. John Kraps officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the charge of Keplinger Funeral Home in Hartford City, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, mother, three stepdaughters, four stepgrandchildren and a sister.
James Calvin Henson
James Calvin Henson, 73, of Raleigh, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Curtis Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
He was born Dec. 26, 1928 in Truman, Ark. to Lela (Griffin) Jones of Eldorado and the late James Henson. On June 13, 1953, he married
the former Carolyn J. Renshaw, who survives.
He was a Korean army veteran and attended Star General Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner from Eagle No. 2 and a farmer.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, James C. (Geri) Henson of Harrisburg, Jeff C. "Cory" (Diane) of Raleigh and Jay C. (Kim) Henson of Spencer, Ind.; four brothers, Billy Wayne Henson and Joseph Edward Henson, both of Montana, Ernie Ray Henson of the Mediterranean and John Elden of Eldorado; two sisters, Jewell Hanson of Eldorado and Evelyn Mae Wease of Louisiana and 11 grandchildren.

Ralph Overton
Ralph Overton, 85, of Eldorado, died 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Oak Grove cemetery northeast of Eldorado with the Rev. Hubert Bradley officiating. Visitation is after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
He was born Oct. 29, 1916 in Gallatin County to Oscar and Grace (Keasler) Overton.
He grew up in the Oak Grove community and was retired from Scot Lad.
He is survived by a niece, Dianne Overton of Mt. Vernon; four nephews, Calvin Overton of Chicago, Hubert Overton of Glen Ellyn, Don Overton of Wayne City and Randy Pearce of Benton.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilburn Overton and a sister, Norma Pearce.
Floyd Andrew Mohler
Floyd Andrew Mohler of Galatia, at the age of 44, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 16, 2002, at home. He was born in Bell Flower, Calif. on May 25, 1958. He dedicated his life to the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and retired as a master sergeant on July 25, 2002. He was stationed at Scott Air Force Base from 1982 to 1995 and Barksdale Air Force Base in Barksdale, La. from 1995 to 2002.
He was a member of Overcoming Faith Church in Bossier City, La. He served as a reserve office for St. Clair County Sheriff's Office in Belleville and for Bossier City Police Department in Bossier City, La. He served as a ham radio operator for the Red Cross Disaster Team.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Mohler, his grandparents, uncles Fred Gill and Ore Gill, a nephew, Jesse Lee Howard, a niece, Kristi Schaffer and great-niece Jennifer Cluck.
He is survived by his wife, Linda F. Mohler, whom he married
Oct. 20, 1985. Two sons, Justin M. Mohler and Joshua P. Moher, both at home. Father and mother-in-law Raleigh and Naomi Harris St. of Shiloh; two sisters-in-law, Mary E. Harris of Shiloh and Debra L. Mullen and husband Dave of O'Fallon; a brother-in-law, Raleigh K. Harris Jr. and wife Deanna of Acworth, Ga.; a grandmother-in-law, Mary Scurlock of Shiloh; a grandfather-in-law, Herman Green of Earle, Ark.; Aunt Eline Gill of Galatia; great-aunt Ella Fred of Galatia; mother Etta Davis and stepfather Bob Davis of Eldorado; four nieces; three nephews; two great-nephews and many cousins.
He was a wonderful husband and father to his wife Linda and sons Justin and Joshua, who will miss him greatly. They have laid him to rest in the arms of his Lord. He now is healed of cancer and free from pain. He is in Heaven now waiting for someday to be reunited with Linda, Justin and Joshua.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the Tates Chapel Church with the Rev. Robert Butchler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Memorials may be given to Siteman Cancer Center of St. Louis, Mo., to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center of Shreveport, La.
