Clarence Edward Woolard
Clarence Edward Woolard, 85, of Eldorado, died 11:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Marion Memorial Hospital.
He was born in rural Gallatin County to the late Verna and Mae (Mausey) Woolard on July 21, 1917. On May 10, 1940, he married
the former Pansey Arzella Fowler, who survives.
He was a retired farmer, and in earlier years an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Eldorado.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shirley J. Smith of Eldorado; three grandchildren, Terri Beers of Calvert City, Ky., Sallie Smith of Galatia and Mrs. Michael (Toni) Mangels of Harrisburg and a great-grandchild, Katelyn Mangels.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the funeral home. The Rev. Carroll Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
John David Ewan
John David Ewan Sr., 84, of 3000 W. Locust St., Eldorado, died 12:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Harrisburg Care Center. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Ron Orr officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery near Eldorado. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1918 in Eldorado to the late Oliver and Grace (Edwards) Ewan. His former wife is Fayetta Kincaid of Harrisburg.
He was a local grocery store owner, an electrician, a welder and coal miner. He was a member of the Masons and the Shriners and was a World War II veteran.
In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two sons, John David Ewan Jr. of South Lake, Texas and Fredrick Ray Ewan of St. Augustine, Fla.; two brothers, Carl (Mary) Ewan of Arkansas and Don Ewan of Eldorado; two grandchildren, Beau Ewan of St. Augustine and Fredrick Ewan Jr. of St. Augustine; five nieces, Carla Hankins of Galatia, Gail Orr of Harrisburg, Vicky Johnson of Carrier Mills, Donna Bradley of Springfield and Debbie Wiadland of Eldorado.
The Rev. George C. Cox
The Rev. George C. Cox, 77, of McLeansboro, died 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Ralph Chaney officiating. Burial will be in Digby Hill cemetery in Dale. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marie F. Edmonds, four sons, one daughter, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two nephews.
Helen Nelson
Helen Nelson, 89, Murphysboro, formerly of Harrisburg, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002 at the Jackson County Rehabilitation Institute in Murphysboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 at the funeral home.
She is survived by one son and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
James M. Mills
James M. Mills, 75, of 105 Sycamore St., Ridgway, died 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at New Harmony Health Care in New Harmony, Ind.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at St. Joseph's cemetery with Father Don Abell officiating. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Military services will be conducted by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
He was born May 30, 1927, in Ridgway to the late Matthew and Mary Emelie (Drone) Mills. On Sept. 17, 1965, he married
the former Beverly Baptista, who survives.
He was an I.C. electrician and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway. He was a retired 21-year Navy veteran. He was a life member of VFW Ridgway Post No. 5508 and Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Sharon Smith of Haverhill, Mass., Debbie (Peter) Sotos of Naples, Fla. and Bernadine (Terry) Clifford of Groveland, Mass.; two sons, James Michael Mills of Ridgway and Hall Matthew (Sue) Mills of Haverhill, Mass.; a sister, Alice Couser of Ridgway; a brother, Bernard Mills of Cave-in-Rock; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald Mills; a sister, Martha Mills and three brothers, George, Richard and Earl Mills.
William 'Bill' Henry Zimmer Sr.
William "Bill" Henry Zimmer Sr., 60, of 2365 S. Springhill Court, York, S.C., died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at home.
The funeral was 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Divine Saviour Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward McDevitt officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
A native of Ridgway, Mr. Zimmer was a son of the late Andrew Lawrence Zimmer and Catherine Litzfer Zimmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked in quality control at Black & Decker Co. and was an engineer at a nuclear power company. He was a member of Divine Saviour Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Shea Zimmer; his son, William Henry Zimmer Jr. of York, S.C.; two daughters, Mary Catherine Zimmer Gibson of Gastonia, N.C. and Elizabeth Jo Zimmer Hodge of Iowa; two brothers, John Richard Zimmer of Red Bird and Joseph Zimmer of Ridgway; three sisters, Margaret Zimmer Sizel of Harrisburg, Christine Zimmer Potts of El Paso, Texas and Marie Zimmer Biggers of Bloomington, Ind. and four grandchildren.
The family received visitors at Bratton Funeral Home.

Byford Dunn
Byford Dunn, 86, a resident of Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, formerly of Carrier Mills, died 6:15 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his residence.
At Mr. Dunn's request, the body has been cremated. There will be no services or visitation. Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by two sons and one sister.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Garland Burris and Russell Monroe officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo cemetery in rural Dahlgren. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Don Nelson and the Rev. James "Buddy" Hubbard officiating.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Dennison, Texas, to the late William D. and Ruby (Shepard) Carr. She married
John Keith, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Ann Cox of Dallas, Texas, Carolyn Feazel of Harrisburg and Janet Griffith of Biloxi, Miss.; three sons, Allen Keith of Harrisburg, Bill Keith of Carrier Mills and John E. Keith of Harrisburg; two brothers, Dennis Carr of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Freddie Allen Carr of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Brenda Kay Graves and Loretta Ortiz, both of Dallas, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Keith and two sisters, Betty Hightower and Joanna Martin.

William E. Reed, 74, of McLeansboro, died 1:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Westside Care Center in West Frankfort.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Lois Whipple Riley, 72, of Cookeville, Tenn., formerly of Shawneetown, died 3:53 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at her residence.
Arrangements are pending at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Burial will be in the Palestine No. 2 cemetery in Omaha.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Riley, two daughters and four brothers.
