Lela Henson Jones
Lela Henson Jones, 96, of Murphy St., Eldorado, died 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Curt Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born May 25, 1906, in Paragould, Ark., to Daisy Sutton. She married
James Anderson Henson, who preceded her in death on March 19, 1978. She married
Clyde Jones, who died in 1991.
She was a member of Star General Baptist Church and the Eldorado Golden Circle.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Bill (JoAnn) Henson of Columbia Falls, Mont., Pastor Ernie Ray (Linda) Henson, a missionary in the Bahamas, Pastor Joseph Edward (Marlene) Henson of Columbia Falls, Mont., and John E. (Yvonne) Henson of Eldorado; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Jewell) Hanson of Eldorado and Mrs. Donald (Evelyn Mae) Wease of Zachary, La.; a stepdaughter, Sarah Jane Jones of Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Henson; two brothers, Burley and Charles Griffin; a sister, Pauline Jayne; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to both her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, J.C. Henson and two children in infancy, Daisy Virginia and Vernon Lee.
Levert Lee Fillingim
Levert Lee Fillingim, 74, of Ridgway, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2001, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville after an extended illness.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Bill Casey officiating. Burial will be in Jackson cemetery in Ridgway with military rites. Visitation is after 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born in Ridgway on Dec. 14, 1927 to the late Harlis and Ella (King) Fillingim.
Lee was a farmer and mechanic for several years before going into the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII where he started college at Michigan State University. He earned medals in wrestling at Michigan State. He received his B.S. degree from University of Illinois and received his Master's from SIU. He came back to the family farm and Fillingim's Garage where he worked with his brother, Jack, for several years before starting a teaching career at Ridgway High School. He recently retired on Nov. 21, 2002, after 34 years of teaching auto mechanics at Ridgway High School, which later became Gallatin County High School. He was elected as village clerk of Ridgway in 1962 and served continually until his death. He was a member of the Ridgway Lions Club, American Legion, Gallatin County, National and Illinois Education Assoc. and American Vocational Assoc. He also ran the Ridgway's Popcorn Day Festival Hospitality Tent for over 30 years. He was active in all aspects of the community that he lived, worked and taught. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ridgway and was a Christian gentleman who was always willing to help his fellow man. He was a good husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, teacher and friend of many. On Nov. 27 of this year Lee and his wife, the former Virginia (Crayne) celebrated their 47th anniversary of a wonderful marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Terry (Paula) Fillingim of Evansville, Ind., and Larry (Jill) Fillingim of Ridgway; a daughter, Nancy (Dr. Steve) Raben of New Baden; a brother, Jack (Nilah) Fillingim of Ridgway; seven grandchildren, Tim, Tricia, Andy and Alex Fillingim and Josh, Jacob and Jordan Raben and a niece, Beth Forsberg and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lee Fillingim Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Evelyn M. (Cobb) Belo
Evelyn M. (Cobb) Belo, 87, formerly of Johnston City, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at the Hospice House.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Burial will be in Bolton cemetery in Stonefort. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Saturday atthe funeral home.
She was born Nov. 24, 1915, in White Ash, to Olsie and Valle (Huddleston) Sharpe. She married
Frank Belo, who preceded her in death in 1998.
She was a devoted loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Eddie Cobb of Johnston City and Jack Cobb of Herrin; two daughters, Joyce Avery of Evansville, Ind., and Sharon Lloyd of North Fort Meyers, Fla., with whom she resided for the last year; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Geneva Marie Womack
Geneva Marie Womack, 97, of Harrisburg, died 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Jon Westfall officiating. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born March 11, 1905, in Raleigh to Marvin and Chestina (Hatcher) Ellis. On Nov. 30, 1922, she married
Omer Trammel, who died March 23, 1982.
On Aug. 16, 1947, she married
Bluford Womack, who preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1965.
She was a homemaker, a member of WMU and a member of Dorris Heights Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Alta Rittenberry of Harrisburg; three sons, Lendell (Connie) Trammel, Phillip (Brenda) Trammel and Gary (Beverly) Trammel, all of Harrisburg; a stepson, Charles B. (Billie) Womack of Harrisburg; a stepdaughter, Ravella (Robert L.) Womack of Indian Head Park; 14 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to both her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie Ervin and a stepdaughter, Rosella Womack.

James 'Jimmy' L. Waterman
James "Jimmy" L. Waterman, 55, of Harrisburg, formerly of Elgin, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Marion Veterans Hospital.
Private services will be held in Elgin.
He is survived by his mother, stepfather, three sisters, one daughter, two brothers and one brother-in-law.
Joe Stubbs
Joe Stubbs, 86, of 140 E. McClernand, Shawneetown, died 7:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Pastor Jack Hall officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born June 20, 1916, in Shawneetown to Harvey and Susan (Seaton) Stubbs. On June 10, 1938, he married
Myrtle Rider, who preceded him in death on May 4, 1998.
He was a construction worker, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of First Baptist Church of Shawneetown.
He was a member of the Eldorado VFW Saline Post No. 3479.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Clarence) Sturgill of Shawneetown; a son, Joseph (Cheri) Stubbs Jr. of West Frankfort; three sisters, Katherine Stanelle, Marie Stubbs and Mammie Scherrer, all of Shawneetown; two brothers, Thomas Albert Stubbs of Templeton, Md., and Louis Seaton of Shawneetown; a granddaughter, Kim Pritchett of Shawneetown; a grandson, Larry Joe Stubbs of Shawneetown; and two great-grandsons, C.J. Sturgill and Cheynee Pritchett.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
Bert Mazikas
Bert Mazikas, 76, of 93 E. Church St., Raleigh, died 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. G.E. Coultas officiating.
Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery.
Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was born May 6, 1926, in Harrisburg to the late Anthony and Anna (Zuis) Mazikas. On Jan. 24, 1948, he married
the former Betty McConnell, who survives. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage in just a few days.
He was a coal miner, a member of Buena Vista Community Church and was an Army staff sergeant in WWII.
He was a graduate of Harrisburg Township High School and attended Southeastern Illinois College.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Susan Mazikas of Eldorado, Debra (Danny) Cook of Jackson, Mo., and Sandra (Ralph) Pittman of Columbus, Ind.; six grandchikldren, Shawn and Shannon Cook, Aimee Rasche, Paige and Clara Pittman and Tony Hobbs; four great-grandchildren, Meredith, Nathan and Sara Cook and Clayton Rasche and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bertis Edward Mazikas in infancy; his mother- and father-in-law, Kingsley and Ethel McConnell; a sister, Anna Giltosky and brother, Tony Mazikas.
James E. Payne
James E. Payne, 87, of 221 S. Murphy, Ridgway, died 1:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery in Ridgway.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
He was born March 26, 1915, in Bowlesville to the late Ed and Nan (Neivelle) Payne. On July 20, 1943, he married
the former Jeanetta Hish, who survives.
He was employed by Southeastern Illinois Electric Cooperative from 1946 to 1977 and was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway and a Gallatin 4-H leader.
He was a 55-year member of the Ridgway Knights of Columbus and a past grand knight member of International Brotherhood of Elecrical Workers Union for 55 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Paul (Judy) Payne of Ridgway, James L. Payne of Ridgway, Carl (Marilyn) Payne of Galatia and Gabriel (Sharon) Payne of Fayetteville, Ala.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Arta Mae Minor
Arta Mae Minor, 89, of Evansville, Ind., died Jan. 17, 2003, at Bethel Manor.
Arta Mae's father, at the age of 16 years, immigrated from Provina Posau, Germany, to this country, settling in southern Illinois. She was the last surviving of 12 children. Arta Mae and her husband were farmers for 16 years, then entered full-time ministry with United Methodist Church. She supported her husband in ministry for 53 years by playing the piano and teaching Sunday school and various other activities. She was a member of Beulah Camp Auxiliary in Eldorado and the United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, the Reverend Herman Edward "Ed" Minor, who died in 2000.
Arta is survived by a son and his wife, Joseph D. and Paula Minor of Evansville, Ind; a son and his wife, the Rev. William D. "Bill" and Willena Minor of Grayville; grandchildren, Steve and wife Kim Minor, Darrell Minor, Jeff and wife Jeanine Minor, Scott and wife Denise Minor, Brad and wife Sherry Minor, Chad and wife Nancy Minor, William D. Jr. and wife Sharon Minor and James Minor; stepgrandchildren Anji and husband Charles Moon, Shannon and husband, Brian Vincent; great-grandchildren Stephanie Richie and Jeremy, Mallory, Meagan, Sarah, Arica, Lauren, Jennifer, Craig, Alexa, Elizabeth and Adam Minor, Jenae Ryan, Chelsi Vincent, Jon Drost, Erin Vincent, Rebekah Moon; brother-in-law Ray and wife, Gen Minor and sisters-in-law Geraldine Porter, Pat Minor.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, officiated by the Rev. John Kraps. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery in Equality.
