Harriett E. Davidson
Harriett E. Davidson, 99, of rural Route 3, Golconda, the Bay City Community, died 9:05 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda with the Rev. Louis Brinker and the Rev. Allen Speer officiating.
Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Golconda. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was the widow of Russell C. Davidson Sr. She is survived by a son, a grandson, a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Tolna W. Gidcomb
Tolna W. Gidcomb (nee Mosby) passed away at her home in Burlington, N.J. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the age of 82. She was born in Gallatin County to the late Wilbur and Lilly Mosby. Her brother, Burdette Mosby and her sister, Marie Mosby, also preceded her in death. One sister, Zelda Oglesby, survives her and lives in Crossville, Tenn. Tolna is survived by her husband of 62 years, Rockwell R. Gidcomb, of Burlington, N.J. She was the loving mother of three daughters, Claudia Waits of Buckingham, Pa., Christine Kennevan of Greensburg, Pa., and Martha Salvadore of Penndel, Pa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jacob Lenhart, Laura Volare, Joel Lenhart, Brian Waits, Heather Kubinsky, Katharine Waits and Justin Gandy. Seven great-grandchildren also survive. Tolna was educated at Southern Illinois University and taught school in the primary grades in Illinois prior to her marriage in 1940. She became an ardent student and collector of art and pattern glass, as well as an accomplished teacher of design and hand quilting and creator of many notable handmade quilts of distinction and artisanship. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington, N.J. Friends may call at the funeral home 12:30 p.m. Saturday to service time. Committal services will be held in Odd Fellows cemetery, Burlington, N.J., immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moorestown VNA Hospice, 907 Pleasant Valley Avenue, Moorestown, N.J. 08054.
Victor S. Wallace
Victor S. Wallace, son of the late William and Verba Wallace of rural Saline County, died Nov. 20, 2002, in Cape Coral, Fla., where he lived for many years.
Victor was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Saline County near Rudement. He was brother of the following: Mabel Baldwin of Carmi, the late Hazel Stanislawsky of Fairview Heights, and Kestner Wallace, Byrum Wallace and Gaylord Wallace of Harrisburg.
Victor graduated from the Harrisburg High School in 1942, went to Michigan to work at 17, married
Twilah Godfrey and spent three and a half years in the Army in WWII.
Victor and Twilah had a son, David and a daughter, Linda Bishop, both of Pontiac, Mich.
Victor loved life, music and travel. He published a book of poems and a number of short stories. He dearly loved his mother and the God she served and has gone now to join them.
James E. 'Rooster' Shelton
James E. "Rooster" Shelton, 85, of West Frankfort, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at his residence. He was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Galatia to Blaine Shelton and Ella (MacFarland) Shelton.
He married
Lorene (O'Steen) Shelton in 1944 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carmel K. and Mike Adkins of West Frankfort and Marcella and Tom Coleman of Kingwood, Texas, and one son and daughter-in-law, Dale Edward Shelton and wife Donna of West Frankfort.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Tate of Galatia; and three brothers, Mack Shelton of Akin, Charles Shelton of O'Fallon and Barney Tom Shelton of Galatia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Vernon E. Shelton.
Rooster was of the Christian faith and a memeber of the U.M.W.A. In 1974 he attended the National Coal Mining Convention in Pennsylvania and helped write 24 resolutions for the national contract. He was most proud of the resolution that allowed widows to continue receiving two-thirds of their husbands' pensions. For many years he served as a safety committeeman for the U.M.W.A. During his 43 years in the coal mines he worked for Peabody, Old Ben, Deering and Freeman Coal Companies. In 1994 he was named Old King Coal and during WWII he served his country with the U.S. Army.
Funeral services for Mr. Shelton will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Burial will be in the Denning cemetery.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, to the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort.
Judy Ann Thompson
Judy Ann Thompson, 52, of Leavenworth, Kan., formerly of the New Burnside-Carrier Mills area, died 1:05 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in her home after losing her battle with cancer.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the Davis Funeral Home in Leavenworth, Kan.
She was born July 26, 1950, in Hardin County to Lucy Henson Ford and the late Sidney B. Ford.
Judy was employed by the Leavenworth County Infirmary for 20 years and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 27 years, Daniel Thompson; two sons, Nathan Thompson, son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kiley Thompson; one granddaughter, Cassandra Thompson and one grandson Caullin Thompson, all of Leavenworth, Kan.; sister, Dorothy Scott Bruce of Carrier Mills; sister, Paula (Bob) Shewmake of Harrisburg; sister Betty Stricklin of Anna; sister-in-law Ida Ford of Carrier Mills; sister-in-law Linda Ford of Lansing, Kan.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the Saline County area.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Leo Ford; a brother, Roy Gene Ford; a sister, Diane Sue Kahn; aunts, Margret Henson, Mamye Jones and Ruth Williams and uncle Glen Odel Ford.

Jane Gasaway, 100, of Harrisburg, died 3:07 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the Harrisburg Care Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Blaine Welker and the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Bankston cemetery near Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1902, in Harrisburg to Arthur Lee and Lillie Mae (Shepherd) McIlrath. In 1945, she married
Kirt Gasaway, who preceded her in death in 1971.
She was a homemaker, a practical nurse and a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Wanda Thompson of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Freda (James) Downs of Cleveland, Texas, and Marilyn (Mack) Nicholson of Oxford, Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Angela (James) Barnett and Matt (Angie) Favreau, both of Cleveland, Texas, Jason Nicholson of Denver, Colo., and Patricia (Paul) Cassise of Lake Orion, Mich.; two great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Eric Barnett of Cleveland, Texas, and Olivia Emerson Cassise of Lake Orion, Mich.; and a sister, Valeria Ann Ollice of Brooksville, Fla.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a half-brother, Crate McIlrath; three brothers, Robert John McIlrath, James Hugh McIlrath and Joseph Vester McIlrath; a sister, Lillie Belle Deaton and a brother, William Arthur McIlrath

Ronald Culbreth, 66, of 105 N. Webster St., Harrisburg, died 2:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Culbreth.

Dr. Hugh Lee Thompson, formerly of Carrier Mills, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in Phoenix, Ariz.

He was the widower of the former Mary Jane Gaskins.

Madalin "Maddie" Kautz died 2 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with Pastor Bryan Morrow officiating. Burial will be at Asbury cemetery in Omaha. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Oct. 30, 1913, in Eldorado to Randall and Ethel (Simpson) Davenport. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Eldorado and also a member of Omega Master Sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda (J.V.) Dodd of Forest Lake, Minn.; two sons, John (Karen) White of Columbia and Wardie (Shelly) White of Eldorado; a stepson, Ray Keith (Ethel) Kautz of West Liberty; three stepdaughters, Sara Jane (Don) Helregel of Lexington, Ky., Nancy (Dick) Parker of Sherwood Park, Canada, and Barbara Ann (Galen) Hinkel of Dundas; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Ed White in 1971 and husband Dan Kautz in 1995; brother Carl Davenport in 1986 and granddaughter Paula (Dodd) Stolp in 1990.
