Charles 'Chuck' Sullivan Jr.
Charles "Chuck" Sullivan Jr., 59, of 203 E. Russell St., Carrier Mills, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Jack Holloman officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born July 7, 1943 to the late Charles and Mary Maddeline (Long) Sullivan Sr. On April 6, 1965, he married
Earlene Whitaker, who survives.
He was a truck driver and attended the Main Street Church of God in Carrier Mills.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian Sullivan of Carrier Mills; two daughters, Becky Sullivan of Stonefort and Beth Matheny of Ozark; four brothers, Raymond Sullivan of Washington, Ind., Stan Sullivan of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Darrell Sullivan of Paducah, Ky. and Dennis Sullivan of Carrier Mills; two sisters, Janet Kennedy and Joyce Mugge, both of Harrisburg and seven grandchildren, Angie Bailey, Keith and Jeff Griffin, Israel Jackson and Tim, Laura and Devin Matheny.
Joseph T. Boston
Joseph T. Boston, 22, of Shawneetown, was tragically killed Thursday evening, Dec. 19, 2002 in an automobile accident south of Carmi.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home chapel in Shawneetown. The Rev. Buddy Hubbard and the Rev. Helen Whitney will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Cottonwood. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at the funeral chapel.
He was born on Aug. 8, 1980 to Joseph Boston and Connie Laur. He was married
in June to Chrissy Sanders of Shawneetown. Mr. Boston worked at Hoosier Stamping in Grayville and was a member of the Faith Tabernacle Church in Carmi.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his parents, Joe (Carolyn) Boston of Omaha and Connie (Mike) Laur of Norris City; two stepsons, Chris Sanders and Justin Gross, both of Shawneetown; one brother, Charles (Crystal) Bush of Carmi; and two sisters, Teresa (Jim) Hinton of Leamington and Jessica Bush of Omaha.
Ronald Culbreth
Ronald Culbreth, 66, of 105 N. Webster St., Harrisburg, died 2:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2002 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002 at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Paul Widicus officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 4, 1936 in Marion to Lloyd and Fern (Martin) Culbreth, both of whom are deceased. He married
the former Sharon Murray on May 29, 1964 in Marion.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg and a member of the United Methodist Men. He taught school two years at Carrier Mills, three years at Wood River, was superintendent of schools 14 years at Grayville, superintendent 12 years at Ridgway and became assistant superintendent when Gallatin County schools consolidated. He retired in 1991.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Joel Culbreth of Greenville, Tenn.; one stepson, Gregory Mekras of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Hays Ronald Culbreth and Victoria Mekras; and one nephew, John Kevin Culbreth of St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joel Culbreth.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Lupus Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Helena Rose McCuaghan, 84, of Olney, formerly of Hardin County, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Olney Care Rainbow Center.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock. Burial will be in Peters Creek cemetery. Visistation is 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the funeral home.
Scott D. Vickers
Scott D. Vickers, 41, of rural route 1, Dahlgren, died 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Gary Davenport officiating. Burial will be in Middle Creek cemetery near Dahlgren. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, the former Peggy June Cross; two daughter; one sister and two brothers.
Bertha Wagers
Bertha Wagers, 78, McLeansboro, died 1:18 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002 at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Terry Savage will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002 at the funeral home.
She is survived by two sons, two daughters, one brother, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Phyllis Odle Goodwin
Phyllis Odle Goodwin of Lake Oswego, Ore., formerly of Saline County, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002.
She was born May 19, 1937 to Jim and Delena Pemberton Odle of Galatia.
She was a graduate of Galatia High School and SIU and was a teacher at Carrier Mills High School and Harrisburg High School.
Surviving are a son, Cameron of Lake Oswego; a brother, Bud (Patty) Odle of Harrisburg; two nieces, Rena (Eddie) Conkle and Marci Odle of Harrisburg and a nephew, Phillip Odle of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Todd Goodwin.
At her request, the body has been cremated and private graveside service will be held at a later date at Tate's Chapel.
Esther M. Carner
Esther M. Carner, 78, of 338 N. Miller St., Carrier Mills, died 8:50 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. J.D. Morrison officiating.
Grandson Todd Coget will assist. Burial will be in Providence cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born June 10, 1924 in Carrier Mills to the late Robert and Nellie (Miller) Sullivan. She married
James Norlin Carner, who survives.
She was a cook in the Harrisburg Care Center and the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. She attended the First Church of God in Carrier Mills.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandy (Charles) Coget of Fairfield and Lonni Reeder of Eldorado; a stepsister, Edna Johnson of Carrier Mills; four grandchildren, Todd and Jill Coget of Greencastle, Ind., Greg Coget of Fairfield, Ashley and Sandy Reeder of Harrisburg and Meesha and Eric Cole of Vienna; and 10 great-grandchildren, Alan, Amber, Rachel, Rebecca and Andrew Cogit, Sawyer and Colby Reeder, Makenzie Prince and Jamee and Ashlyn Cole.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ancil, John and Delmer Sullivan; and two sisters, Ethel Lynch and Mary Pickering.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
Helen L. Murphy
Helen L. Murphy, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Eldorado, daughter of Chester P. Wasson and Julia Neely Wasson, died on Nov. 1, 2002, on her 80th birthday in Tampa. She was the widow of Thomas R. Murphy, who predeceased her in December 1992, and is survived by a son, Thomas R. Murphy Jr. and his wife, Mary (Culley), of Eldorado and a daughter Patricia Dempsey and her husband, the Rev. Dan R. Dempsey of Lutz, Fla., as well as two grandchildren, Daniel Philip Dempsey and Benjamin Allan Dempsey and two step-grandchildren, Lynndon Kyle Vinyard and Rachel Ann Vinyard. She was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Wasson.
Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., and taught home economics and other courses in various school districts for several years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado before moving to Florida in 1980 where she attended Gulfport Presbyterian Church and churches pastored by the Rev. Dempsey. Until her last illness in 2000, she was active in the Senior Center in Gulfport and loved her dogs and working in the yard. She was under Hospice care since early September this year.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Eldorado on 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002. Friends may visit with the family an hour before the service at the church. The ashes will be interred at Bethesda cemetery in Pope County in a private ceremony. Julia Kreuter
Julia Kreuter, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, in Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, Calif.
She was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Norris.
Her daughter Connie and son-in-law Mike Ortell and four grandchildren, Robin Evans, Lissa Zelaya, Todd Starnes and Heidi Starnes and a stepgrandson Christopher Ortell survive her. She also has six great-grandchildren, Keyra and Kirk Kristofferson, Capri, Rio and Soleil Zelaya and Jack Starnes, all in California. A brother, William Walters in Detroit, Mich., also survives her.
Her husband, Melvin "Pitch" Kreuter preceded her in death in 1968.
She was a resident of Eldorado from 1937 to 1958 and was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Eastern Star. Upon moving to St. Louis, she became a housemother for the Masonic Children's Home. She moved to California in 1969.
Memorial services were held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary in Newport Beach, Calif. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Masonic and Odd Fellows cemetery in Benton.
Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of local arrangements.
Michael Harrelson
Michael Harrelson, 49, of 20 Rays Road, Harrisburg, died 6:48 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Burial will be in Salem cemetery and Sister Billie Douglas will officiate. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002.
He was born May 14, 1953, in Carmi to Barbara (Warrick) Kimble and the late Donald Harrelson. He married
Etta Mae Johnson on April 14, 1984, and she survives.
He was a coal miner and a member of the Open Door Ministry.
In addition to his mother of Forrest City, Ark. and his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Simmons III of Eldorado; two daughters, Angela Simmons of New Harmony, Ind., and Amy Harrelson of Harrisburg and a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Terry Shute of Elletsville, Ind.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ray Harrelson.
