The Rev. Betty Tucker
The Rev. Betty Tucker, 70, Fountain View Nursing Home, Eldorado, died Jan. 10, 2003 at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. The Rev. Dorothy Milspaugh will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 2, 1932 in Eldorado to Frank and Verna Mae (Reed) Davis. She married
Carl Tucker, who preceded her in death Aug. 17, 1995.
She was a minister, having ministered at the Shawneetown Church of God for 13 years. She also had an active ministry in local hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of the Eldorado Church of God.
She is survived by one son, Jim (Cathy) Tucker of Eldorado; one daughter, Tena (Keith) Bean of Eldorado; one sister, Barbara (Gene) Harrison of Eldorado; one brother-in-law, Robert Tucker of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, Brian Tucker, Angie Prince, Josh Bean, Michael Tucker, Jessica Bean, Emily Tucker and Zachary Tucker; and two great-grandchildren, Keegan Tucker and Lexi Prince.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roy Tucker, in 1992; one brother, Richard Davis; and one sister, Frankie Gregg.
Dr. Bill W. Leach
Dr. Bill W. Leach, 53, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at his farm in Pope County.
There will be no visitation or funeral. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Cox Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles W. Mitchell
Charles W. Mitchell, 67, of 120-A Reynolds Road, Harrisburg, died 9:46 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Reed Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born July 3, 1935, in Saline County to Lydia Ann (Owen) and the late Melvin Mitchell. He married
Linda Murphy in July 1976.
He was a retired mine safety manager.
In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a son, Kevin (Pam) Mitchell of Harrisburg; a daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Tremaine of Springfield; three stepsons, Robert L. Murphy of Indianapolis, Ind., Jeff W. Murphy of South Carolina and Lee A. Murphy of Florida; his wife, Linda Mitchell of Virden; a brother, Gene Mitchell of Harrisburg and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Christina and Brandon Mitchell and Brittney and Charles Tremaine.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Kenneth Mitchell.
Ralph A. Koester
Ralph A. Koester, 69, of S. Harrington St., Ridgway, died 5:07 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Donald Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Ridgway with military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He was born May 28, 1933, in Ridgway to the late John and Eleanora (Neumann) Koester. On Aug. 21, 1956, he married
the former Donna S. Abell, who survives.
He was a retired truck driver for Scot Lad. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa (James) Anderson of Raleigh; two sons, Paul and Pat Koester, both of Ridgway; four sisters, Loretta Campbell of Eldorado, Lucille (John) Wahnsiedler of Evansville, Ind., Margaret Market of Newburgh, Ind., and Alice (John) Hanagan of Indianapolis, Ind.; three brothers, Hubert (Judy) Koester of Ridgway, Eugene (Callie) Koester of Lake St. Louis, Mo., and Frank (Judy) Koester of St. Peters, Mo., and five grandchildren, Adam and Larren Anderson and Austin, Mason and Molly Koester.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant twin sister and brother, Millie and Billie Koester.
Jonah Kyle Matthew Eckleberry
Jonah Kyle Matthew Eckleberry, 18, of 45 Crow Road, Arab, Ala., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Old Springerton cemetery in Springerton with Bro. Blake Bradley officiating. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
He was born July 24, 1984, in Harrisburg to Gary and Ruthie (Caldwell) Eckleberry.
He was employed in insulation installation.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Joshua Eckleberry of Arab, Ala.; two sisters, Ashley and Francesca Eckleberry of Arab, Ala; his grandparents, Tom and Dorothy Eckleberry of Springerton and Phyllis Caldwell of Eldorado; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Thomas Samuel 'Tommy' Thompson
Thomas Samuel "Tommy" Thompson, 31, of Centertown, Ky., formerly of Harrisburg, died 4 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, in an auto accident near Centertown.
Private graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Liberty cemetery with the Rev. Art Donnely officiating. There will be no visitation. Gaskins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born Feb. 24, 1971, in Peru, Ind., to Gordon and Sally (Winkleman) Thompson.
He was a maintenance laborer.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Heather Dawn Thompson of Harrisburg.
William E. Whitlock
William E. Whitlock, 81, of Alton, formerly of Harrisburg, died 11:06 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at St. Anthony Hospital in Alton.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Gaskins Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Big Ridge cemetery near Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the funeral home.
He was born April 5, 1921, in Raleigh to William Wayne and Molly D. (Oglesby) Whitlock. On Aug. 17, 1940, he married
the former Maynelle Oliver, who survives.
He was a construction laborer and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles (Elizabeth) Whitlock of Cottage Hills; three daughters, Margaret Trammel of Alton, Elizabeth (Terry) Van Meter of Carrier Mills and Barbara (Bert) Trammel of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, Stacey (Lance) Darr, Danielle Trammel, Sarah Trammel, Tara (Donnie) Prather, Michael Trammel, Chris (Susan) Whitlock, Aaron (Jean) Trammel, Joe Van Meter, Jessica Van Meter and Angie Trammel; and 16 great-grandchildren, Ian and Charlie Darr, Charley Whitlock, Caitlyn, Zachary and Devan Trammel, Jacob and Leah Trammel, Alexis Hathaway, Kellcey Jo Van Meter, Dillan Harrison, Addalyn Prather, Shelby, Gunnar and Peyton Trammel and Benjamin Spurlin.

Harvey R. Brake, 85, of Dahlgren, died 11:33 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with the Rev. Mary Erwin and the Rev. Carol Gericke officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Dahlgren with graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 106. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was the widower of Gertrude E. Goin. He is survived by a son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Thora Cain
Thora Cain, 77, of 20 W. Church St., Raleigh, died 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Further family details and funeral arrangements will be announced later from the J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
She was the widow of John Cain.
Ben W. Fann
Ben W. Fann, 66, of rural Route 5, McLeansboro, died 10:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Gerald "Andy" May officiating. Burial will be in Gholson cemetery in Broughton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the funeral home.
He is survived by three sons, a daughter, a companion, three sisters, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.
William Jennings Deen
William Jennings Deen, 95, a resident of Eldorado Care Center, died 2:52 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Bob Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hebron cemetery in Broughton. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1907 in Broughton to the late William and Minnie (Towle) Deen. On July 22, 1940, he married
Alma Mauch, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1992.
He worked at Bramlet John Deer and Bramlet Feed and Seed and also Fox Brothers Feed and Seed. He was a member of the Hebron Presbyterian Church in Broughton.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Naomi Earley of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Hugh Deen of Broughton; three stepgrandchildren, Karen Warner of Sun City West, Ariz., Joan Morgan of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and James Earley of St. Louis, Mo.; seven great-stepgrandchildren; six great-great-stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews that were very special to him.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Almon and Howard Deen.
