Wayne Tucker, 86, of Mt. Clemons, Mich., formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003.
Services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003. Visitation is 6 p.m. to service time Sunday at the funeral home.
He was the widower of Mae Tucker. He is survived by a son, agranddaughter, a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Pearl R. Smith
Pearl R. Smith, 93, of 191 E. Wilson, Shawneetown, died 12:08 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hogan cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the funeral home.
She was born March 23, 1909 in Cave-in-Rock to the late William Alex and Dora (Holbrook) Gentry. In 1929, she married
Merle Reinhardt, who preceded her in death. On Jan. 11, 1957, she married
William F. Smith, who also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a member of Shawneetown First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Martha Jean Douglass of Elizabethtown and Violet Koerber of Shawneetown; a son, Billie Jack Smith of Shawneetown; a sister, Lydia Dill of Lawrenceville and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by a stepmother, Mary Lena Keiffer Gentry and a brother, Herman R. Gentry.
Harold Henry York
Harold Henry York, 94, of Harrisburg, died 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Bernie Cowgill officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery near Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 24, 1908 in Blytheville, Ark. to Elmer and Jennie Irene (Nippen) York. He married
the former Hazel Dempsey in 1930.
He was a coal miner with Peabody Coal Company and a member of Dorrisville Social Brethren Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Henrietta (Tom) Miks of Lakevilla and a grandson, David Miks of Lakevilla.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Vorowski; a brother, Elmer York Jr.; a granddaughter, Patricia Otterson and a special friend, Kathleen Barker.
Charles G. Escue
Charles G. Escue, 60, of 415 N. Thompson St., Carrier Mills, died 12:40 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Joey Dunning officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery with military honors. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born April 26, 1942 in Marion, Ky. to Loraine (Writtenberry) and the late Gordon Escue. On May 21, 1982, he married
Geral Ann Robinson, who survives.
He was a Vietnam Army veteran and a coal miner. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 364 in Carrier Mills.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a sister, Louise McDowell of Marion, Ky.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant brother.
Jewell Edgar Hatcher
Jewell Edgar Hatcher, 97, of Harrisburg, died 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1905 in White County to James M. and Julia (Blackford) Hatcher. He married
Myrtle Bush, Clarice Turner and Dorothy Luther, all of whom preceded him in death.
He was a welder for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria and a member of Sloan Street General Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Hatcher of Harrisburg; five nephews, Melvin (Serena) Hatcher, Ed (Janet) Hatcher, Bob (Linda) Hatcher, James (Sarah) Suver and William (Anita) Suver and a niece, Helen (Maurice) Williams.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Murrell and Joe Hatcher; two sisters, Laura Suver and Nola Hoffart and two nephews, Johnny Suver and Jimmy Hatcher.
Nellie Millikan
Nellie Millikan, 91, 1002 S. Granger St., Harrisburg, died 10:04 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. The Rev. Jack Hood will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Garden cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002 at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 26, 1911 in Pope County to George and Saluda (Sauls) Millikan.
She taught elementary school in rural Pope County for 16 years and in the Metropolis school district for 22 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Harrisburg First Church of God.
She is survived by three nephews, Byrum Wallace, Gaylord Wallace and Kestner Wallace, all of Harrisburg; one niece, Mabel Baldwin of Carmi; and a host of other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ottis and Reuben Millikan; five sisters, Eva Millikan, Helen Moore, Mayme Shelton, Hattie Smith and Verba Wallace; one nephew, Victor Wallace; and one niece, Hazel Stanislowsky.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of the First Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
James Williard Agin
James Willard Agin, 78, of Harrisburg, died at 5:39 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 5, 1924 in Harrisburg to the late James Oscar and Mary (Cobb) Agin. He married
Hazel V. Armistead on Dec. 1, 1951 and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Cindy (Roy) Williams, Galatia, and two sons, Jim (Marsha) Agin of Raleigh and John (Terri) Agin of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, Keri (Aaron) Mays, Ryan Williams, Chuck (Angie) Mausey, Jason Agin, Amanda Agin, Derek Agin, Kelsey Agin; and one great-granddaugther, Hailey Mays. He is also survived by a sister, Jewell Agin Seright of Evansville, Ind. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wendell Lee Agin.
Willard attended school in Harrisburg and served during WWII in Africa, Sicily and Italy with the 705th Engineering Petroleum Distribution Division. He had been a member of the Raleigh Masonic Lodge No. 128 for 24 years and was a retired coal miner and welder. He was also an avid antique car collector and restorer. He was a Baptist by faith and had attended Dorrisville Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Garden cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel with Masonic rites held at 7 p.m.
Aaron David Ellis
Aaron David Ellis, 37, of 509 W. Lincoln St., Harrisburg, died 12:07 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at St. Louis University Hospital.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born July 16, 1965, in Eldorado to Paul David and Amy (Grace) Ellis. On Aug. 9, 1997, he married
the former Debbie Rodgers, who survives.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Harrisburg. He was a project manager at Summit Environmental in Marion and a paid on-call firefighter with Harrisburg Fire Department. He had previously served with the Shawneetown Fire Department and was a certified CPR and first aid instructor.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Dylan of Harrisburg; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Annette Rodgers of Thompsonville; two sisters, Paula (Roger) McSwain of Vale, N.C., and Shawnna (Tom) McCool of Brownstown, Ind.; a niece, Rachael McSwain; two nephews, Caleb McSwain and Jordan McCool; a sister-in-law, Roe Rodgers of Severna Park, Md., and a brother-in-law, Mark Rodgers of Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or to Dylan's Scholarship Fund, in an account at Farmer's State Bank. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Glen Dewey McCabe
Glen Dewey McCabe, 71, of 8901 Sawmill Road, Junction, died 6:59 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at Yokota Air Force Base in Japan.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Hogan cemetery in Shawneetown with military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 19, 1931 in Bowlesville (Gallatin County) to the late Edward P. "Coob" and Lula Mae "Vee" (Smith) McCabe.
He was a retired 23-year veteran of Korea and Vietnam and served as the Gallatin County sheriff for 12 years. He was a Shawneetown Mason Warren Lodge No. 14 and a lifetime member of the Ridgway VFW.
He is survived by three sons, James and Patricia McCabe of Bluebell, Pa., Glen McCabe of Phoenixville, Pa. and David Rehbein of Shawneetown; a companion, Kay Rehbein of Junction; one brother, Bob (Beth) McCabe of Shawneetown; a sister, Edna (Andy) Baker of Eldorado; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby McCabe; a son, Michael McCabe and three brothers, Jim, Charles and Ronald McCabe.
Ralph Marvin Moore
Ralph Marvin Moore, 73, of 665 Kaid Road, Eldorado, died 5:57 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Buddy Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1928 in East Alton to Clinton and Audrey "Alma" (Jewell) Moore. On Oct. 6, 1951, he married
the former Leona Gordon, who survives.
He was a member of the Local Laborer Union No. 198 in Harrisburg for 33 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Winford Marvin Moore of Eldorado and Christopher Dean Moore of Wasson; three daughters, Ona L. Withrow and Dorothy "Dottie" (Pete) Crider, both of Eldorado and Brenda Kay (Johnny) Oldham of Equality; a brother, Richard Moore of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Viola Harrington of Russellville; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Bowlby, George Jeffrey, Brian Keith, Randy Moore, Victoria Davis, Crystal Crider, Troy Crider, Amanda Oldham, Lucas Moore, Christopher Moore and Stacy Moore; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Melvin Withrow; a brother, Sam Moore and a sister, Ellen Painter.
