Robert E. McDowell
Robert E. McDowell, 88, of 1693 Elsmere St., Waterford, Mich., formerly of Harrisburg, died Friday, May 10, 2002, in Oakland County, Mich.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Howard Scott officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Harrisburg, to Sherman and Julia (Thompson) McDowell. He married
Evelyn Hensley, who preceded him in death on Jan. 17, 1943. On Feb. 18, 1949, he married
the former Sarah "Kathleen" Ramsey, who survives.
He was a repairman for Ford Motor Company.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by a daughter, Ramona (Joseph) Delgado; two sons, Ray Dunivan and Robert S. McDowell; two daughters, Mary (Mike) Kelley and Sharon Ann Bennett; and two grandchildren, Deborah Hancock and Austin Kelley.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, Iley, Charles, Harry, Roscoe, Elmer, Sherman and Ernest McDowell; and three sisters, Winifred Wright, Gertrude Coleman and Beulah Irwin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice, 25900 Greenfield Road, Suite 600, Oak Park, Mich. 48237.
Philip F. Paul
Philip F. Paul, 84, of Evansville, Ind., died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Deaconess Hospital.
Philip was born in Enfield, the eldest son of Joseph and Ella Paul. He moved to Evansville in 1937.
Mr. Paul was a founding member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Knights of St. John No. 335 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Philip Conservation Club, Hilltop Grove, the Order of Owls, Local No. 808 of AF of L-CIO and was a union steward, Darmstadt Retirees Club, Local No. 808 Retirees Club and A.A.R.P. He was a receiving clerk at Whirlpool Corporation for 32 years before he retired in 1978. He was also co-founder of P&C; Pallet Service and operated it for 30 years.
Philip loved fishing, rabbit and squirrel hunting and playing in clabber tournaments. He won many trophies and enjoyed traveling.
Surviving is his wife of seven years, Susie "Pauline" Paul. Mr. and Mrs. Paul maintained residences in Evansville and Harrisburg. Also surviving are five sons, Dr. James F. Paul of Bourbonnais, Ronald "Slim" Paul of Mexican Hat, Utah, Michael Paul of Evansville, Kenneth Paul of Evansville, and Christopher Paul of Houston, Texas; four daughters, Sister Betty Paul, S.P. of Whitinsville, Mass., Linda Koressel of Evansville, Kathy Baysinger of Terre Haute, Ind., and Deborah Paul of Evansville; three stepchildren, Sharon Donnely and Kay Partin of Harrisburg and Louise Seeba of Lake Station, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Zeller of Wadesville, Ind. and Loretta Koester of Evansville, Ind.; one brother, Leo "Simon" Paul of St. Wendel, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, LeeAnn and John Koressel, Christina Paul, Ryan and Kurtis Baysinger, Gavin and Gabriella Eddings, Billy Sue Mahan, Harvey and Guy Taylor, and Jody Paul; four great-grandchildren, Cicely McBride, Tyer and Cheyenne Mahan and Scottie Paul.
Mr. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Leona Schenk Paul in 1993, his brother, Clarence "Spud" Paul and his sister, Patricia Phillips.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Rev. James Blessing officiating. Entombment will be in St. Joseph cemetery.
Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Pierre Funeral Home where there will be a memorial service at 4 p.m.
Friends may also visit at Corpus Christi Catholic Church from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund or the American Heart Association.
Jewell L. DeVillez
Jewell L. DeVillez, 81, of Kuttawa, Ky., formerly of Eldorado, died 2:50 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Riverbend Retirement Home in Kuttawa.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2002, at Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born August 14, 1920, in Eldorado to the late James C. and Zilpha (Shane) Lassiter. She was married
to Kenneth C. DeVillez, who preceded her in death in 1982.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dolores DeVillez of Kuttawa, Ky.; two grandchildren, Chuck DeVillez of Kuttawa, Ky. and Carla DeVillez of Oakland, Calif.; three sisters, Jane Sturgill of Wood River, Mildred Sturgill of Warden, and Dortha Allard of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, James B. Lassiter, and a sister, Hazel Lassiter Nave.

Gertrude E. Brake, 83, of Dahlgren, 7:42 a.m. Friday. May 10, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey R. Brake; a son; a sister; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
George A. Alexander
George A. Alexander, 78, of Harrisburg, died 2:22 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Bruce Cullers officiating. Burial was in Sunset cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Harrisburg to the late W.E. and Elizabeth (Ingram) Alexander. He married
the former Jean Grubbs in 1947.
Mr. Alexander was a World War II Navy veteran, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Linda (Randy) Johnson of Harrisburg; a son, Danny (Barbara Ann) Huston of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Steven, Jeff, and James "Whipper" Johnson of Harrisburg, Kristin Melton of Norris City, and Jason, Jeremy and Hanna Huston of Kansas City, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Austin and Brennan Johnson, Madelyn and Morgan Johnson of Harrisburg, Mackenzie Melton of Norris City; and four nieces and five nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harry, John, Floyd and Wilburn, and sisters Lorene Aldridge and Ina Bridgewater.
Jeremy Keith Welling
Jeremy Keith Welling, 17, Newton, died about 5:45 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Born March 5, 1985, he was the son of Bernard Keith and Darlene (Hall) Welling of 12635 E. 1600th Ave., Newton, Ill. 62448. He was a junior at Newton Community High School class of 2003, and worked part-time at the Newton Dairy Queen. His hobbies included basketball, collecting baseball cards and being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he his survived by his sister, Amanda Jean Welling, and his brother, Joshua Paul Welling of Newton; his grandparents, Paul "Buzz" and Jeanie (Farmer) Welling of Lawrenceville and Harrisburg; Wanda and Floyd Rotramel of West Frankfort, James and Janine Hall of Mt. Vernon; great-grandmother, Betty Russell of Mt. Vernon; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The funeral was Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Scott Avenue Christian Church in Newton with Pastor Ron Culp officiating. Burial was in Hunt cemetery in rural Newton.
Charles Leonard Hish
Charles Leonard Hish, 84, of 809 E. Main St., Ridgway, died 3:55 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Ridgway Manor Nursing Home.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2002, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway with Father Mark Stec officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Ridgway with military rites being performed by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
He was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Ridgway to Frank J. and Anna (Bahl) Hish. He married
the former JoAnn Luckett, who preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 1965. On March 29, 1967, he then married
the former Helene Kaufman, who survives. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway and served in the Army in World War II. He was a member of the Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596. He was a lifelong farmer in the Gallatin County area.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Jeanett (James) Payne of Ridgway; a brother, Earl (Doris) Hish of Ridgway; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Monette Blackburn
Monette Blackburn, 88, of Galatia, died 6:40 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Galatia.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Alan Porter officiating.
Burial will be in Brushy cemetery in Harco. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Saline County to the late Tom and Eliza (Taylor) Fowler. On Sept. 18, 1928, she married
Loyd Franklin Blackburn, who preceded her in death on March 30, 1995.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Galatia.
She is survived by two sons, David (Grace) Blackburn of Galatia and Jerry Blackburn of Paxton; a daughter, Frances (Edward) Darnell of Panama City, Fla.; four sisters, Betty Hitchcock of Carrier Mills, Virginia Widick of Eldorado, Evelyn Carr of Arizona and Jan Robinson; 11 grandchildren, seven out of state and four local, Cindy and Terry Blackburn, both of Galatia, Angie Hoffman of Carmi and Jason Blackburn of Galatia; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Pauline Clary
Pauline Clary, 92, of 2 N. Skaggs St., Harrisburg, died 8:10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, at her residence.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Equality. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.
She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Elba to Charles J. and Carrie (Risinger) Blankenship. She married
W.E. Cleary, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 1963.
She was a guard at Dwight Women's Prison and a member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
She is survived by a sister, Imogene (Earl) Chisim of Aurora, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ford Blankenship, and a sister, Fern Hudson.
