Mable E. Starkey
Mable E. Starkey, 95, a resident of Ridgway Manor Nursing Home and longtime former resident of Omaha, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway with the Rev. Blaine Felty officiating. Burial will be in Palestine No. 2 cemetery in Omaha. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by three nephews and five nieces.
Leonora Boscarine
Leonora Boscarine, 86, of 1508 Fisk St., Eldorado, died 10:50 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado with Father Donald Abell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
She was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Harrisburg, to the late Charles and Gioconda (Ruffo) Businaro. She was the widow of Guido Boscarine.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado and the St. Mary's Altar Society.
She is survived by two sons, Louis Boscarine of Breese and Leonard Boscarine of Seattle; a daughter, Mary Ann Kiefer of Watseka; a brother, Henry Businaro of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Christopher Kiefer, Michelle Cox, Louise Morgan, Mary Tebbe, Steven Boscarine; and four great-grandchildren, Leonore Slavik, Randy Haley, Dennis Johnston, and Dakota Tebbe.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Businaro, and a sister, Rose Bledig.
Roy Harold Fort
Roy Harold Fort, 83, of 203 W. Washington St., Carrier Mills, died 9:15 a.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Gilead cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Simpson to the late Roy and Mae (Marshall) Fort. On Feb. 2, 1941, he married
the former Bonnie Harris, who preceded him in death on July 19, 1995.
He was a retired Sahara Coal miner.
He is survived by a daughter, Ella Jane (Gary) Van Meter of Morehead, Ky.; a granddaughter, Crystal (Tracy) Kirk of New Washington, Ind.; and a great-grandchild, Ava Jane Kirk.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Fort, and a brother, Harold Fort. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to the Gilead cemetery Fund in his memory.
George A. Alexander
George A. Alexander, 78, of Harrisburg, died 2:22 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Services were held 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Bruce Cullers officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hill cemetery. Visitation was 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Harrisburg to W.E. and Elizabeth (Ingram) Alexander. He married
the former Jean Grubbs in 1947.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Linda Jean (Randy) Johnson of Harrisburg; a son, Danny Baylis (Barbara Ann) Huston of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Steven Johnson, Jeff Johnson, and James "Whipper" Johnson, all of Harrisburg; Kristin Leslie Melton of Norris City; and Jason Daniel Huston, Jeremy Baylis Huston, and Hanna Clare Huston, all of Kansas City, Mo.; six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Brennan, Madelyn, Austin, and Morgan Johnson, and Mackenzie Melton; and three nieces and three nephews.
John W. Vailes
John W. Vailes, 45, of Eldorado, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Wolf Creek cemetery with the Rev. Tom Flewellen officiating. There will be no visitation. Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born in Eldorado to Wilma (Hud) and the late John Earl Vailes. He was married
to Deveda (Hall) Vailes, who survives.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Jonathan Canada, Noble Vailes, and John Earl Vailes; five daughters, Cassandra Vailes, Martha Canada, Crystal Canada, Winnie Wright, and Sheila Swarringin; two sisters, Lorry Vanhoorebeke and Rita Pantaleo; and eight grandchildren.
Doris Louise (Baehr) Welden
Doris Louise (Baehr) Welden, 76, of McLeansboro, died 11:40 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at her residence.
Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, at Richardson Hill cemetery in Dahlgren. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of the arrangements.
Genevieve 'Ferne' Whitmore Petersen
Genevieve "Ferne" Whitmore Petersen, 90, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at the Modern Care Nursing Home in Jacksonville.
She was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Saline County; the daughter of Jessie G. and Joy Dorris Fiveash.
She is survived by two daughters, Penny (Randy) Wheeler of Newburgh, Ind. and Mary (Larry) Kuster of Chapin; four granddaugters; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, William David Whitmore; two younger brothers, John and Glen Fiveash; and a younger sister, Wanda Fiveash Simpson.
Mrs. Peterson grew up in St. Louis, Mo. and Harrisburg. She graduated from Harrisburg High School. For many years she was the bookeeper for Radio Station WLBK in DeKalb. She was a member of the DeKalb City Planning Commission. She retired in 1975 and spent her later years in Evansville, Ind. and Jacksonville.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Private services will be held this summer at Somers cemetery in Saline County. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Heart Association.
George J. Briddick
George J. Briddick, 75, 739 Bramlet St., Eldorado, died 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2002 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Baker officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the funeral home.
He was born August 26, 1926, in Eldorado, the son of George and Ethel (Palmer) Briddick. He married
the former Nellie White on July 31, 1948, who survives.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eldorado and was retired from United Cities Gas Co. after 32 years. He also was a military veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosanna (the late Bob) Wood of Eldorado and Rochelle (Steve) Griffin, both of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Ryan Wood, Brandon Wood, Josh Griffin and Luke Griffin; one great-grandchild, Emma Griffin; two sisters, Virginia (Cletus) Baird of Norwood, Mo. and Wanda Walker of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two brothers-in-law, Johnny (Ethel) White, L.B. (Carol) White; four sisters-in-law, Ora Feges, Emily (Rod) Choisser, Ann (Mack) Morris and Alma (Larry) Coker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Geneva Crain, and one brother-in-law, Leon Walker.

Sharon L. McClure-Luther, 54, of 606 E. Poplar St., Harrisburg, died 6:18 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
The body has been cremated. Services will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, David Luther of Harrisburg; and a son.

Bonnie Mallady, 63, of 1320 Oak St., Harrisburg, died 12:08 a.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Methodist cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born July 31, 1938, in Harrisburg to the late Harry Weatherington and Flora (Seets) Street. She was married
to Billy E. Mallady, who preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1991.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Honeycomb Church of God in Karbers Ridge.
She is survived by a son, Billy Mallady and his fiancee Teri Hartman of Harrisburg; two daughters, Kathy (Dennis) Hatton of Omaha and Connie (Tom) Stevers of Harrisburg; two sisters, Marlene Davis and LaVerne Hale, both of Harrisburg; two brothers, the Rev. Gene Weatherington of Fairdale, Ky., and Russell Weatherington of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, Shauna Gholson, Elisa, Emily, and Tyler Hatton, and Adam Stevers; and two great-grandchildren, Catryna and Andrew Stevers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Foster.
