Velma Coleen Littlefield, 63, of 120 S. Land St., Harrisburg, died 8:17 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Saline Care Center.
In honor of her wishes, the body is to be cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Ledford cemetery in Ledford. Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Harrisburg, to the late Leslie and Opal (Brothers) Waltz.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Kenny Littlefield of Galatia; a sister, Betty Ann Angell of Harrisburg; and a grandson, John Littlefield of Galatia.
Arthur Truitt
Arthur Truitt, 86, of Golconda, died 6:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Pope County Care Home in Golconda.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Golconda First Baptist Church with the Rev. Allan Speers and Nolan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal cemetery in Vienna. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, two sons, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Charles Eugene Crider
Charles Eugene Crider, 35, of Eldorado, died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by a sister and a brother.
Virginia Lee Pearce
Virginia Lee Pearce, 75, of 1303 S. Roosevelt St., Harrisburg, died 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Saline Care Center.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 29, 1926, in Saline County to the late Dan and Gladys (Rude) Hilliard. On June 14, 1947, she married
Leslie Pearce, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She was a member of the Happy Homemakers and the Bible Searchers Sunday School Class.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Richard) Hazley of Harrisburg; a brother, J.P. (Dana) Hilliard of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Kristin (Paul) Melton of Norris City and Andrea (Bob) McGee of Mt. Prospect; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Melton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Dailey.
Madge Thompson
Madge Thompson, 85, of 1440 Wayne Road, Galatia (Harco community), died 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at her residence.
There will be no visitation or services. Private burial will be in the Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills. Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born March 20, 1917, in Carrier Mills to the late Edgard and Urtus (Holmes) Thompson.
She is survived by a brother, Elbert "Jack" Thompson of Galatia; an aunt, Blanche Thompson; and several cousins.
Verla Georgia Doerr
Verla Georgia Doerr, 73, of Eldorado, died 1:47 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at the Eldorado Care Center.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado with the Rev. W.R. Baker officiating. There will be no visitation. Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born Dec. 4, 1928, in Eldorado to Richard and Jessie (Trout) Copeland. She was married
to John A. Doerr, who preceded her in death in July 1977.
She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.
She is survived by three sons, John D. Doerr of Eldorado, Larry J. Doerr of Winthrop Harbor, and Clancy L. Doerr of Eldorado; two daughters, Penny A. Jones and Patsy A. Jones, both of Eldorado; a brother, Frank Allen of Eldorado; a sister, Martha Russell of Eldorado; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; and the special staff of Eldorado Care Center.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Copeland; a grandson, Robin Lee Doerr; a sister-in-law; four brothers-in-law; two sons-in-law; two nieces and a nephew.
Cecil Michael 'Mike' McAnnally
Cecil Michael "Mike" McAnnally, 48, of 390 Watson Road, Thompsonville, died 9:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at his residence.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Bernie Cowgill officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery in Carrier Mills. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1954, in Saline County to the late Wilburn McAnnally and the former Mamie Fitzgerald, who survives.
He was a member of the Dorrisville Social Brethren Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Don McAnnally of Thompsonville and Randy McAnnally of Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the family.
Mildred L. Tanner
Mildred L. Tanner, 80, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Carrier Mills, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002.
Memorial services were held.
She is survived by two daughters, a son-in-law, a grandson, a brother, his wife, and a sister. She was the widow of Charles Tanner.
Lucille Brown Schreiner
Lucille Brown Schreiner, 69, of Manteno, formerly of Harrisburg, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Manteno with the Rev. Ron Early and the Rev. Earl Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Bloom cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Brown Funeral Home in Manteno.
She is survived by two daughters, two sons, two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, a brother, a sister-in-law, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Walter H. Tanner
Walter H. Tanner, 73, of 513 E. Locust St., Harrisburg, died 10:45 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisburg. Cremation and burial will be at a later date. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born August 29, 1928, in Harrisburg to the late Harvey and Carrie (Parks) Tanner.
He was a construction worker and served in the U.S. Army 1954 to 1955. He was a member of BPOE No. 1058, Harrisburg and the George Hart Post No. 167 American Legion of Harrisburg.
He is survived by two sons, Timothy Brit and Sherri Tanner, Newburgh, Ind., and Bruce (Christy) Tanner of Carterville; a daughter, Andrea Winters of Marion; and a brother, J.R. Tanner of Harrisburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Guy Tanner, and a sister, Susan Vogal.
Donald H. "Red" Wallace
Donald H. "Red" Wallace, 84, of 985 Hwy. 145 S., Harrisburg, died at 10:55 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1999 at Saline Care Center. He was born on Dec. 6, 1914, in Herod to the late Cordie and Nellie (Hancock) Wallace.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He was preceded by his first wife, Martha Jane Wallace in 1985 and three brothers, Kenneth Wallace, Troy Wallace and Brownie Wallace.
Surviving are his wife, the former Edna Evans; a son, Gordon Wallace of Equality; a grandson, Kevin Wallace; two step-daughters, Myrna Jones of Kansas City, Kan. and Donna Anderson of Belleville; two step-grandchildren, Donella Ryan and Dan Anderson; a step-great-grandchild, Danielle Ryan; and a sister, Marie Hale and a brother, Astor Wallace, both of Harrisburg.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Paul Mark Hurt will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery near Harrisburg.
