Mary Lou Hughes
Mrs. Mary Lou Hughes, 64, of 711 N. Battleford Rd., Carrier Mills, died at 10:17 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1934 in Williamson County, to the late George H. Turner and to Oma (Motsinger) Turner.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Saline County Home Extension Club.
She married
on April 17, 1954, to William E. "Bill" Hughes Sr., who survives. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Brad Crowder of Carrier Mills; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill E. and Michelle Hughes Jr., of Carrier Mills, Ronnie and Jan Hughes and Donnie and Ronda Hughes, both of Harrisburg; her mother, Oma Turner of Galatia; a brother, George F. Turner of Galatia; and seven grandchildren, Ryan, Amanda, Rhett, Sarah and Amy Hughes, and C. J. and Casey Crowder; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Turner and brother, William Bruce Turner.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Greg Breeden will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Clarence D. Rose
Services for Clarence D. Rose, 83, of 2095 Brushy Church Rd., Harrisburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Bob Workman will officiate. Burial will be in Zion cemetery at Ozark with military rites by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legion.
Mr. Rose died at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Herschel Cummins
Services for Herschel Cummins, 82, a resident of Waukegan and former resident of this area, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marsh Funeral Home at 1521 Washington, Waukegan. The Rev. Dr. Gehl Devore will officiate and burial will be at the North Shore Garden of Memories.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Cummins died Sunday, July 18, 1999 at his home.
Roger D. Little
Roger D. Little, 64, of Rosiclare, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
Juanita Cox
Mrs. Juanita Cox, 88, widow of Leland Cox, of Michigan, formerly of Eldorado, died Sunday, July 18, 1999 in Michigan. She was born on June 4, 1911 in Eldorado to the late Welcome and Vercie (Slow) Choisser.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna (Angelo) Michilli of Clinton Township, Mich.; four grandchildren; 12 great -grandchildren; and nieces.
Graveside services will precede burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in Wolf Creek cemetery in Eldorado.
Watson Funeral Home of Eldorado is in charge of the arrangements.
William M. 'Roe' Garner
William M. "Roe" Garner, 86, of Wayne City, died at 7:03 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born June 24, 1914, in Wayne County to Abe Lincoln and Nora (Goldman) Garner.
He married
Ruth Hand May 25, 1941. She survives.
Mr. Garner was a retired farmer and a member of the Wayne City Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Veteran of World War II and a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 759.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Garner and wife, Carol of Waltonville; Randy Garner and wife, Coletta of Wayne City; three brothers, Garrett Garner of Sims, Albert Garner of Wayne City, Lyndy Garner of Wayne City; two sisters, Laura Legg of Wayne City, Lola Wilkerson of Wayne City; one sister-in-law, Lola Garner of Wayne City; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at Wayne City Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gene Phillips officiating. Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. Burial is in Thomason cemetery in Wayne City.
Muriel Partain
Muriel Partain, 83, 10 East National Street, Harrisburg, died 9:28 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1917, in Harrisburg to Benjamin Harrison and Fannie (Endsley) Partain.
After graduating from Harrisburg High School class of 1935, Muriel Partain was employed at Bowen Center in Harrisburg where she was honored as an "Outstanding Employee in the State of Illinois" in 1972, one of only ten people in the state being recognized that year. She later worked for several years as a sales clerk at Myrons Exclusive Feminine Apparel in Harrisburg.
She is survived by two nephews, Samuel P. Potter and wife, Nancy of Kansas City, Mo., Edward N. Thurmond and wife, Marilyn of Pittsburg, Penn.; one grandniece, Jennifer and husband, Paul Teget of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandnephew, Matthew Potter of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Hazel Potter and Ruth Thurmond.
Funeral services are noon Thursday, July 27 at Reed Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 at the funeral home. Burial is in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Memorials may be made to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church building fund.
Boneva J. Kinney
Boneva J. Kinney, 65, of Highland, Ind., formerly of Eddyville, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, in Highland.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, with the Rev. David Sims officiating. Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jessie B. Grisham
Jessie B. Grisham, 92, of 1221 S. Hobson St., Harrisburg, died 5:20 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2000, at Saline Care Center in Harrisburg.
She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in Hamilton County to the late James E. and Julia (Phy) Ellis.
She married
the Rev. Elmer Grisham who preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1981.
She was a charter member of the Carrier Mills Social Brethren Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Grisham and wife, Mary of Raleigh and Roger Grisham of Lakeland, Fla.; four daughters, Sue Brewer and husband, Jack of Harrisburg, Dorris Wilson and husband, Hack of Olney, and Donna Wilson of Marion; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marjorie Grisham, six brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Monday, July 24 at Gaskins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bernie Cowgill and the Rev. Norman Cozart officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in Sunset Lawn cemetery. .
Ralph H. Chambers
Ralph H. Chambers, 80, of 718 North Webster, Harrisburg died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 1997 at his home.
He was born on June 16, 1916, to the late Thomas A. and Nora Francis (Mathis) Chambers.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg. He was a longtime coal miner having worked at Turner Mine, Blue Bird and Sahara Coal Co. and as Army veteran during World War II.
On April 20, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. he married
the former Fern Ward, who preceded him in death on April 18, 1994. A son, William Ralph Chambers, also preceded him in death on July 27, 1971.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Marshall Landis; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Eugene and Joyce Chambers.
Surviving grandchildren are: Jeffrey and Diane Landis, Matt and Michelle Landis, Jennifer and Jason Brimm, Julie Dawn Chambers, and Kyle Robert Chambers. Also three great-grandchildren, Leah Landis, Jordan Michelle Landis and Matthew Reid Landis. One grandchild, Robert J. Chambers, preceded him in death on Sept. 3, 1973.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers; William Daniel, Everett Ercel, Charles, Richard, Archie and Kenneth Chambers; and four sisters, Cora, Luella, Flora Chambers and Dora Rose.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at Gaskins Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery in Eldorado.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 1997 at Gaskins Funeral Home.
