Ora Jenkins Saulmon
Mrs. Ora Saulmon, 93, of 212 Mercherle Dr., Bloomington, formerly of Harrisburg, and Colorado, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, 1997 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington.
She will be cremated, there will be no visitation. An inurnment service will be held at a later date at a cemetery in Harrisburg. Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
She was born Sept. 26, 1903 in Wallrabs Mill, Ill., daughter of William and Malinda Joiner Allen. She married
Loren Jenkins on June, 1919, in Harrisburg, he died Feb. 19, 1954. On May 22, 1968, she married
LeRoy Saulmon in Rocky Ford, Colo., and he died March 12, 1995.
Surviving are a son, Jack L. Jenkins and wife, Janice of 212 Mercherle Dr., Bloomington; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and five sisters. Mrs. Saulmon was a buyer of women's apparel for Hart's Dept. Store and a former member of the First Methodist Church. She retired to Colorado in 1966 where she resided until 1995.
Edna Shelter
Mrs. Edna Shelter, 85, of Galatia, died at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, March 9, 1997 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
She was married
to Bernard Shetler and he preceded her in death in December, 1973.
Mrs. Shetler was born on May 20, 1911, in Saline County to the late Sam and Allie McFarland Galbraith.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. She was retired from the State Hospital in Kalazamoo, Mich. as a Ward Attendant.
Surviving are an aunt, Ella Shelton and a sister-in-law, Lorene Shetler, both of Galatia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Richey and Sophie Gabraith.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and prayer service at 7 p.m. The Rev. Jack Stallings will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery at Elizabethtown.
Martha G. Thomas
Mrs. Martha G. Thomas, 77, of Ozark, died at March 8, 1997 at 4:50 p.m. in Hillview Health Care Center at Vienna.
She was a retired U.S. Post Mistress in Ozark after 38 years. She was a member of National Post Masters League and the Taylor United Methodist Church.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1920, in Johnson County to Canna and Eva Martin Burke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas on April 26, 1996, her parents, Canna and Eva Martin Burke, one son, John Franklin Thomas, 10 brothers and sisters.
Surviving are a son, Allen and wife, Karen Thomas of Carterville; a daughter, Sue and husband, Edward Treat of Ozark; two sisters, Lillie Askew of Peoria and Lula "Doodie" Barlas of Saint Charles; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Aly Funeral Home in Vienna, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Bobby Moore and the Rev. Jim Shipley will officiate. Burial will be in Taylor cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Tip of Illinois Hospice Program.
Charles Herdis 'Pete' Keasler
Charles Herdis "Pete" Keasler, 77, of Ridgway, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in his home.
He was born in Omaha June 20, 1923, to David Dean and Clara Louisiana (Mitchell) Keasler.
He married
the former Margaret Mary McCormick May 18, 1946.
He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway.
He served as an artillery mechanic in the European Theater during World War II and was a member of the 717th Tank Battalion Association and American Legion Post 596 of Ridgway.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by four daughters, Carol Keasler of West Frankfort, Judy Keasler and Gene Sanks of Ridgway; Connie and husband David Bird of Westfield, Ind., and Glenda and husband Henry Rollman of Shawneetown; two sons, James Keasler and wife Karen of Ridgway and John Keasler and Crystal McGrew of Junction; five grandchildren, Emily, Natalie and Warren Rollman and Jeff and Judith Bird; three stepgrandchildren, Kris, Ryan and Brad Kilmer; two sisters, Wanda Ukena of East Alton and Kathleen McCaleb of Grove City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at Vickery Funeral Home in Ridgway. Rosary service will be 7 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, July 28 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ridgway. Burial with military rites will be in St. Joseph's cemetery near Ridgway.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Ridgway Golden Circle.
Verba Barger
Verba Barger, 94, of Dunnellon, Fla., formerly of Golconda, died Wednesday morning, July 26, 2000, in Dunnellon.
She was born Sept. 9, 1905, in Hardin County to George and Alice (Deal) Johnson.
On June 15, 1930, she married
Dan Barger. He preceded her in death Aug. 15, 1950.
Mrs. Barger was a homemaker and a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Daniel Barger of Dunnellon, Fla.; one daughter, Mary Adams of Dunnellon; one sister, Agnes Shewmaker of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Freeman Johson; one son, George Barger; and one daughter, Mildred June Dunlap.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Sulphur Springs Church, with the Rev. Virgil Cox officiating. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial is in Sulphur Springs cemetery.

Muriel Partain
Muriel Partain, 83, 10 East National Street, Harrisburg, died 9:28 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was born March 22, 1917, in Harrisburg to Benjamin Harrison and Fannie (Endsley) Partain.
She graduated from Harrisburg High School's class of 1935.
Muriel worked for several years as a sales clerk at Myrons Exclusive Feminine Apparel in Harrisburg. She later was employed at Bowen Center in Harrisburg where she was honored as an "Outstanding Employee in the State of Illinois" in 1972, one of only ten people in the state being recognized that year.
She is survived by two nephews, Samuel P. Potter and wife, Nancy of Kansas City, Mo., Edward N. Thurmond and wife, Marilyn of Pittsburg, Penn.; one grandniece, Jennifer and husband, Paul Teget of Columbus, Ohio; and one grandnephew, Matthew Potter of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Hazel Potter and Ruth Thurmond.
Funeral services were noon Thursday, July 27 at Reed Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Visitation was 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 at the funeral home. Burial was in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Memorials may be made to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church building fund.
Josephine Virginia Dameron
Josephine Virginia Dameron, 82, of 313 W. McHaney St., Harrisburg, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Graveside services will precede burial at 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. There is no visitation. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.

Mary Jane Ragsdale
Mary Jane Ragsdale, 85, of Harrisburg, died 10:07 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was born in Hamilton County Jan. 2, 1916, the daughter of the late Caleb and Loretta (Cotter) Odle. She married
Cyde Ragsdale. He preceded her in death in 1984.
She was a member of North America Baptist Church.
Mary worked for Herrin Apparel.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Service is 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. Floyd Dorris will officiate. Burial is in North America cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Kenny (Marletta) Ragsdale of Galatia; a brother, Lloyd Odle of Harrisburg; a sister, Wilma Hutchinson of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Debbie Peterson of Peoria, Roxann Keasler of Harrisburg, Kim (Todd) Wright of North Carolina, Pam (Roy) Wiggins of Galatia; a granddaughter-in-law, Belinda Edwards of Galatia; 7 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Clyde Ragsdale, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Orr and a grandson, Alan Edwards.
Phyllis Deaton
Phyllis Deaton, 62, 419 W. Harrison St., Carrier Mills, died 4:24 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
She was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Saline County to the late Charles and Lillie Belle (McIlrath) Deaton. She was married
to Darrell Hawkins Nov. 22, 1952.
She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Carrier Mills where she taught Adult Sunday School Class.
She is survived by seven sons, Rick Hawkins of Carrier Mills, Michael Hawkins of Mackinaw, Lonnie Hawkins of Mackinaw, Kenneth Hawkins of Zion, Darrin Hawkins of Mackinaw, Kevin Hawkins of Collinsville, Meric Hawkins of Charleston, Mo.; and 15 grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, James Deaton, a sister, Carolyn Sue Hill who died April 3, 2001, and a grandson, Braydn Hawkins.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Dick Driskell will officiate. Burial is in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday. Arrangements are in the charge of Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home of Carrier Mills.
