Lorenz E. 'Buck' Gholson
Lorenz E. "Buck" Gholson, 80, of Eldorado and Galatia, died 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Broughton to Charles W. and Grace (Roberts) Gholson.
Mr. Gholson was a retired farm manager for Ogden-Phipps Farms. He was also retired from Elgin-Manteno State of Illinois Mental Health Department. He was a U.S Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of operations and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart during combat. He was a Protestant by faith.
He is survived by one son, Fred Gholson of Broughton; three daughters, Janice and husband, Dale Arflack of Eldorado, Susan Gholson of Mt. Vernon and Carol and husband, David Hoffman of Bourbonnais; one brother, John T. Gholson and wife, Deborah of Carmi; four grandchildren, Sommer Murphy, Darcy Ayers, James Gholson and Mike Gholson; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, C.W. "Bill" Gholson and Rex Gholson; and one sister, Ruby Sebree.
Funeral services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Bill Gholson officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial is in Hickory Hill cemetery in Broughton, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post No. 106.
Garcia G. Ralph
Garcia G. Ralph, 81, of rural Elizabethtown died 5:25 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 29, 1919, in Elizabethtown to the late Elmer Ralph Sr. and Elizabeth (Frailey) Ralph.
He married
Geneva Ralph of Elizabethtown. She survives.
He was an Army veteran who served in World War II and a retired miner. He was a Mason and was a Baptist by faith.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Charles Oxford of Plantation, Fla., and Douglas Oxford and wife, Rose Marie of Clermont, Fla.; a daughter, Carolyn McDonald and husband, Terry of Newburgh, Ind., a brother, Elmer Ralph Jr. of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Catherine Lievers of Pueblo, Colo., and Pauline McEwin of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Beatrice King, Alberta Holbrook and Frances Walker; and a brother, Alfred Ralph.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Hosick Funeral Chapel in Rosiclare with the Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. and Gary Hardesty officiating. There will be military graveside service by American Legion Post No. 571. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at the funeral home with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Empire cemetery in Elizabethtown.
Thomas Lee Bates
Thomas Lee Bates, 65, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of New Haven, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at his home from apparent heart failure.
Graveside services were11 a.m. today, Aug. 10 at Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven with the Rev. Ed Givens officiating.
Those attending should go directly to the cemetery. There is no visitation.

Bryce Owens
Bryce Owens, 63, of Chatham, died 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, after an extended illness.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today, Aug. 10 at Leamington cemetery in Leamington, with the Rev. Jonah Reynolds officiating. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Ridgway Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. There is no visitation. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.

Vennie Koch
Vennie Koch, 82, of 824 W. Sloan St., Harrisburg, died 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, with the Rev. Harold Williams officiating.
Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 10 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg.
Annie B. King
Mrs. Annie B. King, 95, of 602 E. Walnut St., Carrier Mills, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Douglass King in 1962.
Mrs. King was born on Aug. 31, 1903, in New Albany, Miss. to the late Coleman and Julie Davis. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Peoria.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, James and Ethel Keene of Carrier Mills; a sister, Mary Tardy of New Albany; two grandchildren, Eugene Wilson and Linda Thompson, both of Peoria; and several great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Minnie Wilson.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Then the body will be taken to the Simmons Mortuary in Peoria for visitation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Peoria. Entombment will be in the American Mausoleum in Peoria.
Rev. Orval Paul "O.P." Allen
The Rev. Orval Paul "O.P." Allen, 85, of Crab Orchard, died July 19, 1999 in Palm Dessert, Calif.
Rev. Allen had pastored Baptist churches in this area including Faith Chapel Baptist Church, Indian Camp Baptist, and Coal Banks Springs Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Eugene Allen in 1992. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in Marion.
Shirley Hill
Mrs. Shirley Hill, 60, wife of Harley Hill, of 927 W. Barnett St., Harrisburg, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 in Deaconess Hospital at Evansville, Ind.
She was born June 15, 1939, in Harrisburg to the late Kenneth "Buck" Price and Freda (Davis) Price.
Surviving are her husband, Harley; her mother, Freda Price of Galatia; a son, Kenneth Bolander of Norris City; a daughter, Perri and her husband, David Rodriquez of Wallkill, N.Y.; two step daughters, Nancy Smith of Herrin and Judy Shaw of Wayne City; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Kenneth Price of Florida, Jerry Price of Tunnel Hill, Allen Price of Harrisburg and Robert S. Price of Manassas, Va.; and two sisters, Helen Harrison of Pamona Park, Fla. and Haroletta Yates of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Price and Charles Hargraves and a sister, Mary Farmer.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg, with visitation after 5 p.m. until service time.
The body will be cremated.
Georgia Marie Moore
Mrs. Georgia Marie Moore, 89, of Studio City, Calif., died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center, Burbank, Calif.
She was the widow of George Moore.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Moore of Studio City, Calif. and George Michael Moore of Germany; two brothers, Kenneth Frailey of Elizabethtown and Ralph Frailey of Cave-in-Rock; two sisters, Thelma Douglas of Paducah, Ky. and JoAnn Bishop of Illinois; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery.
Paul L. Schrum
Graveside services for Paul L. Schrum, 77, of Pana, will precede burial at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 1999 at Pleasant Hill cemetery at Thompsonville. There will be no visitation at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
Mr. Schrum, former resident of the Thompsonville area, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 in Pana.
Susie Wren
Services for Mrs. Susie Wren, 96, of Peoria, formerly of Eldorado, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999 at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Curt Yarbrough will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado. The Rev. Betty Tucker will officiate.
Mrs. Wren died at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999 at the Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
