Ira W. Wiseman
Ira W. Wiseman, 83, of Anna, former Raleigh resident, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born Jan. 22, 1916, in Raleigh, son of the late Charlie and Victoria (Oakley) Wiseman.
Mr. Wiseman was united in marriage to Opal Vinson on Jan. 25, 1945, in Raleigh. She preceded him in death on Aug. 20, 1993, and also five brothers preceded him in death.
He was employed by Florsheim Shoe Factory, U.S. Forest Services and the Eldorado-Raleigh Park District.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of he Veterans of Foreign War Post 3455 in Anna, the Anna Moose Lodge, and the Cobden American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Roger A. Wiseman of Anna and Terry L. Wiseman of Dongola; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Henry Wiseman of Roxanne.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Raleigh Masonic cemetery. The Rev. Bill Jones will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of Anna.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the Hileman and Parr Funeral Services in Jonesboro.
Beulah Ann Barrett
Beulah Ann Barrett, 92, of 31 South McKinley St., Harrisburg, died at 11:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Harrisburg Care Center.
She was born Jan. 26, 1907, in Harrisburg, to the late Aud and Florence (Ramsey) Barrett.
Miss Barrett was a bookkeeper and a member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Elmer Barrett; a niece, Janet (Barrett) Tisdale; a nephew, John Barrett, all of Odessa, Texas; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Donald E. Dowdy
Donald E. Dowdy, 65, of 902 W. Parish St., Harrisburg, died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was the husband of Barbara Dowdy.

Pearl L. Odle
Mrs. Pearl L. Odle, 84, of Deckerville, Mich., died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Autumwood Care Center in Deckerville.
She was born May 29, 1915, in Equality, to the late John and Nora (Leithlerer) Forrester.
She married
Nigle Odle on Jan. 13, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. He preceded her in death June 9, 1971.
Surviving are a son, Glen and wife, Ada Bilderbeck of Sandusky, Mich.; two grandsons, Nigle R. Bilderbeck of California and Martin D. Bilderbeck of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and four great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Tate's Chapel cemetery near Galatia. Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of the local arrangements.
Robert Dean 'Bob' Harris
Robert Dean "Bob" Harris, 64, of rural Ozark, formerly of Marion, died at 11 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1935, near the Reynoldsburg community in Johnson County, to the late Maurice "Slim" and Madge (Breeden) Harris.
Surviving include his companion and special love, Patsy Norris of Ozark, who has shared the past 15 years with him; a son, Michael Harris of Carbondale; a daughter, Nikki and her husband, John Tate of Marion; three grandchildren, Brandon Harris and Grant Harris, both of Carbondale, and Cody Short of Marion; three sisters, Betty Rodgers of Peoria, Sue Fitzgerald of Stonefort, and Sharon Johnson of Murphysboro; a brother, Jack Harris of Ozark; two stepsons, David and wife, Denise Norris of Marion, and Steven Nicholson of Marion; a stepdaughter, Lisa Norris of Ozark; his lifelong friend and former wife, Ludene Harris of Marion, who he was married
to for 26 years; a step-grandchild, Austin Norris; several cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Glen Rodgers and Clarence Fitzgerald.
Robert was a full-time farmer and operated one of the largest cow and calf operations in the Ozark area. He owned and operated a dozer and backhoe service for several years, working throughout the Southern Illinois region. He was a 30 year member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 318 and also a member of Marion Eagles for approximately 15 years.
Robert grew up on a small farm in the Reynoldsburg community and was a graduate of Vienna High School. After spending a few years away from the area, he returned to Ozark in 1962 and made it his lifetime home. As a young man, he was actively involved in sports and loved playing baseball and basketball, and a love he passed down the generations. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball and SIU Saluki basketball fan, and even during his failing health he refused to miss a Saluki game. He loved to ride motorcycles, train bird dogs, and hunt quail. He also enjoyed square dancing, quarter horse riding, and working in the outdoors.
He became a friend to almost all he met, because of his easy-going and friendly manner. He will always be remembered by those who know him for the way he battled cancer for 17 years.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Noel Gene Loyd and the Rev. Orval Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in the Reynoldsburg cemetery.

June Hardin
Mrs. June Hardin, 77, of Elizabethtown, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at her home.
She retired as a nurse from Hardin County General Hospital and a member of the Elizabethtown First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Nell Frailey of Elizabethtown and Ruth Hansel of Gerard; and a brother, John Ledbetter of Harrisburg.
Mrs. Hardin was preceded in death by her parents, Walker and Callie (Heatherington) Ledbetter; her husband, Bennett Hardin; two brothers, Ken Ledbetter and Hurbert Ledbetter; and two sisters, Virginia Fricker and Dorothy Mott. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at White's Chapel cemetery in Tolu, Ky., with the Rev. Phil Willison officiating.
There will be no visitation at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
Mary Frances Dammers
Mary Frances Dammers, 70, of Southfield, Mich., former long time resident of Harrisburg, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Delaware, Ohio.
She married
Dr. W. R. Dammers on Oct. 19, 1953, in Delaware. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1989.
Mrs. Dammers was a registered nurse and had worked at the Harrisburg Medical Center for many years, until she retired in 1982. She had been a member of the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid cook and especially liked making holiday meals for the entire family.
Surviving are four sons, Sam and wife, Beth Dammers of Oak Park, John Dammers of Battle Creek, Mich., William and Amy Dammers of Columbus, Ind., and Dr. Paul Dammers of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Jeffrey (Heidi) Hudson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Kris Dammers of Oak Park; a sister, Barbara Haver of Clearwater, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan 7, 2000, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday until service time. The Rev. Roger Lyons will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind or the American Diabetes Association of Michigan.
Opal (Waltz) Castner
Opal (Waltz) Castner, 81, of Carrier Mills died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. She was born May 31, 1918, in Saline County to the late Jim Brothers and Servannah Dunn.
She worked as a waitress and attended Ledford Baptist Church.
She was married
to Leslie Waltz who preceded her in death, then married
Gordon Castner who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Angell, of Harrisburg and Colene Littlefield of Rosiclare; a sister Joann Brown of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Harold Ray Hancock and Leslie Anne Brown, both of Indianapolis, Ind., Richard Lee Hancock of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Kenny Gene Littlefield of Galatia; five great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Victoria Reeder; and three brothers, Leroy, Kenneth and Wilburn Brothers.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Rev. John Hancock will officiate and burial will be at the Ledford cemetery in Harrisburg.
John E. 'Pappy' Knowles
John E. "Pappy" Knowles, 74, of 2360 Town Park Rd., Carrier Mills, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 1999, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1925, in Stonefort, to the late Vance and Helen (Chase) Knowles.
Mr. Knowles retired from Sahara Coal Co. and was a member of New Castle Baptist Church.
On July 13, 1944, he married
the former Loueva Nolen. She died Dec. 3, 1982.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Mark Wilkins of Stonefort and Janet and Kenny Bristow of Carrier Mills; two sons and daughters-in-law, John L. and Nancy Knowles of Carrier Mills, and Randy and Kathryn Knowles of Santa Claus, Ind.; two sisters, Margaret Browning of Harrisburg and Doris Killman of Ozark; six grandchildren, Heather Hill, Kristin Knowles, Tammy Wilkins, Rebecca Bristow, Amy Scott and J. R. Bristow; and four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Knowles, Maria and Jackie Hill, and Emily Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Clifford Knowles, and a sister, Florence Stricklin.
Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Harl Cockrum officiated and burial was at Salem cemetery.
