N. Evelyn Birge
Mrs. N. Evelyn Birge, 86, of Clinton, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at the Bro Menn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
She was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Wapella Township DeWitt County, to the late Owen and Cora (Swearingen) Andrew. She married
Kelcy L. Birge Dec. 24, 1930 in Crawfordsville, Ind. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1971.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, William and Mickey Birge of Bloomington, Thomas and Ruth Birge, Lakeland, Fla. and Robert and Judy Birge of Harrisburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jon Odell of Moweaqa; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Birge, James Birge, Lisa Donahue, Scott Birge, Renee Palmer, Vicky Workman, Ronnie Birge and Jonathon Odell; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Birge and a sister.
She retired in 1977 from the Maroa Farmer's Coop Elevator.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home in Clinton, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. David Nottrott will officiate and burial will be in the Maroa cemetery in Maroa.
Memorials may be made to the John Warner Hospital Respiratory Department.
Robbie L. Laird
Mrs. Robbie L. Laird, 84, of Elizabethtown, died at his home at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 1999.
Surviving are a son, Charles and wife, Mary Lotton of Crete; a brother, Marvin Thornton of Madisonville, Ky.; a sister, Marie Tadlock of Rosiclare; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Laird, her parents, Marvin and Mina (Carter) Thornton Walker, a daughter, Betty Heer and a brother, Jack Thornton.
Mrs. Laird was a member of the Elizabethtown United Methodist Church and Hardin County Golden Circle.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hosick Funeral Chapel in Rosiclare, where visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Bro. David Lotton will officiate. Burial will be in Peters Creek cemetery.
Asa Ray Frailey
A military graveside service for Asa Ray Frailey, 71, of Indianapolis, Ind. formerly of Cave-in-Rock, will be held Sunday, July 18, 1999 at 2 p.m. at Potter's Church cemetery in Cave-in-Rock. The Rev. Deon Dutton will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
John Walter Hetherington
John Walter Hetherington, 74, of 217-B W. Poplar St., Harrisburg, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999 at his home.
He was born July 19, 1924, in Harrisburg to the late John Bluford and Nellie (Vander Pluym) Hetherington.
He retired after 37 years from the City Coal Yard in Harrisburg as a sheet metal worker. He served three years in the Navy during World War II and worked for the FBI for four years. He graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1942.
Mr. Hetherington was a member of the Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church. On April 3, 1953, he married
the former Elizabeth "Betty" Meyer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John (Melody) Bennett of Carmi and Mrs. David (Cheryl) Schroeder of Sussex, Wis.; three grandsons, Justin Matthew, Joseph Karl and David John Schroeder.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph, James, Karl, Gene and Bluford Hetherington, and a sister, Marynelle Bashford.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Jerry Ford will officiate, and burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery, Harrisburg.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
James H. McIlrath
James H. McIlrath, 91, of Houghton Lake, Mich., formerly of Harrisburg, died Saturday, June 5, 1999 in Lansing, Mich.
He was born in Harrisburg on March 15, 1908, to the late Arthur and Lillie McIlrath. He retired as a tool and die man from the GM Truck and Coach Co.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Opal Simpson in 1975. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Delores Weir and Linda North, a sister, Bell (Deaton) McNew, and four brothers, Crate, Robert, Joseph and William McIlrath
Surviving are his wife, Pearl McIlrath of Houghton Lake; three sons, James H. McIlrath Jr. and Robert J. McIlrath, both of Clarkston, Mich. and Charles R. McIlrath of Sterling Heights, Mich.; two sisters, Jane Gasaway of Harrisburg and Valeria (Baker) Olice of Brooksville, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at the Houghton Lake Bible Church. Burial will be in the Perry Mountain Park cemetery of Pontiac, Mich.

Sam Stafford
Sam Stafford, 63, of 1565 Triple S. Road, Harrisburg, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, June 7, 1999 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jane Rice.

William C. "Bill" Justice
William C. "Bill" Justice, 70, of 232 W. National St., Harrisburg, died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, June 4, 1999 in Three Rivers Hospital, Three Rivers, Mich.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1928, in Equality, son of the late Mart and Frant (Colbert) Justice. He retired from the Holiday Inn with the security department and was an Army veteran.
Mr. Justice attended the Pankeyville Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion. On Oct. 9, 1958, he married
the former Juanita Imogene Carnett. She died on April 16, 1999.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Smith of Jones, Mich. and Wilma Jean Crumb of Mazon; two sisters, Hazel Williams of Harrisburg and Maycel Welch of Bowling Green, Ky.; two brothers, Bob Justice of Tacoma, Wash. and Dale Justice of Bethalto; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ome, James and Howard Justice.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Ernie Fowler will officiate and burial will be in Coffee cemetery.
Pat Collins
Pat Collins, 95, of 1150 Jefferson St., Eldorado, died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 1999 at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
He was born on June 29, 1903, in Eldorado to the late Daniel and Hattie (Ashley) Collins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marian Galley in 1959. He later married
the former Helen Dunny, who died on Aug. 22, 1997.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Elaine Collins of Olney and Michael and Donna Collins of Hendersonville, N.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Alice) Bishop and Catherine Collins, both of Bloomington, and Teresa St. Pierre of Belleville; a daughter-in-law, Regina Collins of Eldorado; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Pat Collins Jr., a daughter, Mary Ellen Collins and a sister, Teresa Beatty.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Eldorado, where he was a member. Fr. Don Abell will officiate and burial will be in St. Mary cemetery in Eldorado.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, where Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Mattie Neeley
Mrs. Mattie Neeley, 95, of Eldorado, died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 1999 in City Care Center at Eldorado.
She was the widow of James Kelly Neeley. She was born on April 8, 1904, in Scott City, Va.
Mrs. Neeley was a member of the Eldorado Assembly of God Church in Eldorado.
Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Joan Neeley and Irene Neeley, both of Hampton, Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Roy, Billy and Jack Neeley.
Graveside services will precede burial at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Parklawn cemetery in Hampton. The Rev. Judson Shackelford will officiate.
There will be no visitation at Bean Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
