Wilburn 'Wimpy' Jones
Wilburn "Wimpy" Jones, 72, of Golconda, died 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Pope County Care Home in Golconda. He was born July 12, 1928, in Hardin County, to Roy and Gertrude (Smock) Jones.
Mr. Jones was a construction laborer and a member of the Labor Local No. 807. He was a member of Golconda First Baptist Church.
He is survived by one brother, Kenneth Jones of Hinckley; and four sisters, Alma Rumsey of Golconda, Helen Boaz of Vienna, Wilma Emerson of Golconda, and Aletha Boyd of Paducah, Ky.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
The body has been cremated and there will be no funeral services or visitation.
Aly Funeral Home in Golconda is in charge of arrangements.
Candace (Candy) Hancock
Mrs. Candace (Candy) (Melton) Hancock, 52, of Benton, La., formerly of Harrisburg, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Hancock on Feb. 18, 1998.
Her parents were the late Robert Seth and Laura (Fontenot) Melton, and she was born on July 22, 1946, in Shreveport, La. She was a model and was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Robbie) Walker of Harrisburg and Kerry Bryant Walker of Galveston, Texas; three grandchildren, Rain, Deadria and Raven Walker; two stepchildren, Mike Hancock of St. Louis and Angela Deaton of Carrollton, Texas; three step-grandchildren, Ava Reeves, Vivian Reeves and Dylan Hancock; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Verline Melton of Benton.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at Dorrisville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Airline Drive Church of Christ, 2125 Airline Drive, Bossier City, La. 71111.
William H. Kaegi
William H. Kaegi, 77, of 55 Market St., Golconda, died Dec. 27, 1998 at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Surviving are his wife, Hope Kaegi; a daughter, Mrs. David (Maribeth) Logsdon of Morganfield, Ky.; two sisters, Eva Frailey of Cave-in-Rock and Elsie Patton of Bridgeport; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Sarah Ellen (Derringer) Kaegi and a brother, Albert Taylor Kaegi.
He was an Elder in the Golconda First Presbyterian Church, life member of Golconda Masonic Lodge No. 131, Grand Order of Sword of Bunker Hill No. 50, life member of the American Legion Post No. 2910 of Golconda.
Mr. Kaegi was a retired member of the Board of Directors in Pope County, a representative for Egyptian Area Agency on Aging, served as Golconda City Board member, and retired as an electrical worker for 38 years at SEIEC.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Golconda. The Rev Rick Riggle will officiate. The body has been cremated.

Opal R. Blackwell
Mrs. Opal R. Blackwell, 83, of Carrier Mills, died at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was born on June 4, 1915, in Carrier Mills to the late Harve and Verbie (Rollins) Rouse.
She was married
for 45 years to the late Archie Blackwell Sr. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1980. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Carrier Mills.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Archie and Ann Blackwell Jr.; two daughters, Joyce Ann and Esther Joann Blackwell, all of Carrier Mills; 13 grandchildren, Mike, Vickie, Deborah, Greg, Annette, Aurileo, Connie, Cassie, Jason, Wesley, Tija, Zanny and Traci Opal; 11 great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; Roberta Rouse of Mount Morris, Mich.; Arthur Juan Risco of Davison, Mich., and Walter and Nancy Blackwell of Harrisburg; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alton "Dubbie" Blackwell in 1997, a daughter-in-law, Margaret (Mason) Blackwell in 1960; a brother, Delmar Rouse, two sisters, Ora Norton and Ester Muriel Juan Risco, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson, and seven nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p. m. Friday. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Larry J. Rayford officiating.
Audie Pearl Ferrell
Mrs. Audie Pearl Ferrell, 93, of Rural, Herod, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Ferrell in April, 1979.
Mrs. Ferrell was born on Feb. 4, 1906, in Herod to the late Willis Allen and Lizzie (Reiner) Cox.
Surviving are two sons, Gene Ferrell and Dennis J. Ferrell, both of Herod; two daughters, Wilma Walker of Eddyville and Wanda Taylor of Harrisburg; a brother, Allen Cox of Herod; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Hobbs and India Colbert, and three brothers, Fred, Cecil and Raleigh Cox.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Leroy Hicks will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Paul Tanner
Paul Tanner, 76, of 6098 Shawnee Forest Road, Equality, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Marion.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1922, in Whitesville, Ky., to the late William and Lillian (Llewallen) Tanner. He was a retired school teacher and a Army veteran during World War II and a Prisoner of War.
Mr. Tanner was a member of the American Legion Ridgway Post No. 596.
On July 4, 1947, he married
the former Doris Julia Reynolds. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Sheryl Patton of Equality, Joan Goetzke and Julia Pruitt, both of Hobart, Ind.; two sons, Paul Tanner Jr. of Chicago and John Tanner of Hobart, Ind.; three sisters, Annette Patton of Titusville, Fla., Rosemary Stanley of Gainesville, Fla. and Doris Helen Tanner; three brothers, Charles Tanner of Augusta, Ga., James Tanner and Wallace Tanner; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Tanner, a granddaughter, Ruth Patton, three sisters, Benita, Martina and Freda Tanner, and two brothers, Joseph and Robert Tanner.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality. Fr. Mark Stec will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery at Equality.
There will be no visitation. Vickery Funeral Chapel of Equality is in charge of the arrangements.
Lawrence 'Jasper' Evans
Lawrence "Jasper" Evans of 1905 W. Pierce St., Carlsbad, N.M., formerly of Eldorado, died Dec. 29, 1999 at Carlsbad Medical Center.
He was born July 28, 1909, in Grayson, to Lewis E. and Barbara Ellen (Bowers) Evans. Mr. Evans grew up in Grayson and Eldorado and graduated from Eldorado Township High School in 1928.
He married
Mary Edna Esarey in Opdyke on March 29, 1933. The couple lived in Eldorado, where he worked at various coal mines in the area, primarily Dering Coal Co. and Old Ben Coal Co.
In 1952, they moved to Carlsbad and worked for Southwest Potash Co. and AMAX Minerals, retiring from AMAX in 1971. After retirement he became involved in woodworking and spent several years in beekeeping and honey production.
Mr. Evans was a 57-year member of the Masonic Lodge, belonging to Eldorado Lodge No. 730. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and coin collecting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edna, his parents, four brothers, Robert, David, Samuel, and J.C. and one sister, Elizabeth.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Sharon Evans of Carlsbad, N.M.; a daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Larry Kelly of Houston, Texas; a sister, Barbara Prehara of Evansville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Evan Kelly of Frisco, Colo., and Joanna Kelly of New York City, N.Y.; three step grandchildren, John E. Guck of Fairfield, Iowa, Anthony H. Guck of Easton, Md., and David A. Guck of Austin, Texas; and six great-grandchildren.
Direct cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at West Funeral Home.
Estelle Bernice Cooper
Mrs. Estelle Bernice Cooper, 85, of Van Nuys, Calif., formerly of Eldorado, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.
She was the widow of William Dennis Cooper.
Further family details and funeral arrangements will be announced later from Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Leonard 'Bosco' Pickering
Leonard "Bosco" Pickering, 76, of Elizabethtown, died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at his home of a heart attack. He retired from Allied Chemical Plant, as a supervisor. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a Hardin County Cougar fan.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Pickering; a daughter, Shirley and son-in-law, Mike Taylor of Carbondale; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Van and Carolyn Pickering of Elizabethtown, and Robert and Eileen Ginger of Harrisburg; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Van Buren and Margarette (Thomas) Pickering; a brother, Woodrow Pickering; and a sister, Mamie Murphy.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 1000. The Rev. Arthur Austin Jr. will officiate and burial will be in Cave Hill in Cave-in-Rock with military rites.
