William H. Kaegi
William H. Kaegi, 77, of 55 Market St. in Golconda died at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at Welborn Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
Mr. Kaegi was an elder in the Golconda First Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Golconda Masonic Lodge 131, a member of the Grand Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill 50, a life member of Golconda American Legion Post 2910. He was also a retired member of the board of directors and Pope County representative for the Egyptian Area Agency on Aging. He had served Golconda as a member of the city board. He retired from Southeastern Illinois Electric Cooperative after 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Sarah Ellen (Derringer) Kaegi, and a brother, Albert Taylor Kaegi.
Mr. Kaegi is survived by his wife, Hope Kaegi, of Golconda; a daughter, Maribeth (David) Logsdon of Morganfield, Ky.; two sisters, Eva Frailey of Cave-in-Rock and Elsie Patton of Bridgeport; and three grandchildren.
The body has been cremated and there will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Golconda with Rev. Rick Riggle officiating.

Arthur B. Cook
Arthur B. Cook, 85, of Route 1, Herod, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998 in the Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado. He was a retired farmer and was also retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita (Showalters) Cook, of Herod; three daughters and son-in-laws, Thelma Lucille and David Helmers of Rosiclare, Alma and Gene Hayes of Karbers Ridge and Wilma English of Elizabethtown; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Hansel and Benita Cook of Chicago and James Gordon and Laverna Cook of Cave-in-Rock; a brother, Telford Cook of Cave-in-Rock; two sisters, Lula Brookmeyer of Freeman Spur and Lola Haney of Chandler, Ind.; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram Fred and Edith (Oxford) Cook; a son, Marion Cook; three brothers, Ezra, George and Leonard Cook; and three sisters, Anne Heirdink, Edna Belt and Hester Price.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare with Rev. Charles DePriest and Earl Cowsert officiating. Burial will be in the Central cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ralph Weinraub
Ralph Weinraub, 80, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado died Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 12:45 p.m. at the nursing home.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 31, at Wolf Creek cemetery. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
Phyllis J. King
Services for Mrs. Phyllis J. King, 66, wife of Allen V. King, of 15 S. Granger St., Harrisburg will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mark Haumschilt will officiate and burial will be in Big Ridge cemetery.
William Isaac Smith
William Isaac Smith, 93, of Detroit, Mich., formerly of Ridgway, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1998 in Detroit. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 1999 at Jackson cemetery in Ridgway. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.

Connie Douglas
Mrs. Connie Douglas, 88, of Cave-in-Rock, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 in Dallas, Texas. Services will be held at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Howard R. Vinson
Howard R. Vinson, 73, of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Galatia, who died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998 in Holiday. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Dennis Preston officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Lebanon cemetery near Galatia with military rites given by the Eldorado American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mabel (Karnes) Hayes
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Chapel Church for Mrs. Mabel (Karnes) Hayes, 86, of Lake Village, Ind., formerly of Bradley and Galatia. The Rev. Vola Sittig and the Rev. Ernest Donoho will officiate. Burial will be in Rhine cemetery near Raleigh.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. to lie in state until time of service.
Goldie Madeline Walker
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock for Mrs. Goldie Madeline Walker, 69, of Ashland City, Tenn., formerly of Cave-in-Rock. Burial was in Cave Hill cemetery.
Mary Katherine Durfee
Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home for Mrs. Mary Katherine Durfee, 95, a resident of Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Burial was in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Noel Ralph
Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hosick Funeral Home Chapel in Rosiclare for Noel Ralph, 83, of 125 Highland Rd., Galatia. His son, Ted Ralph will give the eulogy. Burial was in Central cemetery at Elizabethtown.
Candace (Candy) Hancock
Mrs. Candace (Candy) (Melton) Hancock, 52, of Benton, La., formerly of Harrisburg, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 1999 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Hancock on Feb. 18, 1998.
Her parents were the late Robert Seth and Laura (Fontenot) Melton, and she was born on July 22, 1946, in Shreveport, La. She was a model and was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Robbie) Walker of Harrisburg and Kerry Bryant Walker of Galveston, Texas; three grandchildren, Rain, Deadria and Raven Walker; two stepchildren, Mike Hancock of St. Louis and Angela Deaton of Carrollton, Texas; three step-grandchildren, Ava Reeves, Vivian Reeves and Dylan Hancock; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Verline Melton of Benton.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at Dorrisville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

Opal R. Blackwell
Mrs. Opal R. Blackwell, 83, of Carrier Mills, died at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was born on June 4, 1915, in Carrier Mills to the late Harve and Verbie (Rollins) Rouse.
She was married
for 45 years to the late Archie Blackwell Sr. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1980. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Carrier Mills.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Archie and Ann Blackwell Jr.; two daughters, Joyce Ann and Esther Joann Blackwell, all of Carrier Mills; 13 grandchildren, Mike, Vickie, Deborah, Greg, Annette, Aurileo, Connie, Cassie, Jason, Wesley, Tija, Zanny and Traci Opal; 11 great-granddaughters; and two great-great-granddaughters; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; Roberta Rouse of Mount Morris, Mich.; Arthur Juan Risco of Davison, Mich., and Walter and Nancy Blackwell of Harrisburg; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alton "Dubbie" Blackwell in 1997, a daughter-in-law, Margaret (Mason) Blackwell in 1960; a brother, Delmar Rouse, two sisters, Ora Norton and Ester Muriel Juan Risco, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson, and seven nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p. m. Friday. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Larry J. Rayford officiating.
