Audie Pearl Ferrell
Mrs. Audie Pearl Ferrell, 93, of Rural, Herod, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Ferrell in April, 1979.
Mrs. Ferrell was born on Feb. 4, 1906, in Herod to the late Willis Allen and Lizzie (Reiner) Cox.
Surviving are two sons, Gene Ferrell and Dennis J. Ferrell, both of Herod; two daughters, Wilma Walker of Eddyville and Wanda Taylor of Harrisburg; a brother, Allen Cox of Herod; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Hobbs and India Colbert, and three brothers, Fred, Cecil and Raleigh Cox.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Leroy Hicks will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Paul Tanner
Paul Tanner, 76, of 6098 Shawnee Forest Road, Equality, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Marion.
He was born on Sept. 9, 1922, in Whitesville, Ky., to the late William and Lillian (Llewallen) Tanner. He was a retired school teacher and a Army veteran during World War II and a Prisoner of War.
Mr. Tanner was a member of the American Legion Ridgway Post No. 596.
On July 4, 1947, he married
the former Doris Julia Reynolds. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 1990.
Surviving are three daughters, Sheryl Patton of Equality, Joan Goetzke and Julia Pruitt, both of Hobart, Ind.; two sons, Paul Tanner Jr. of Chicago and John Tanner of Hobart, Ind.; three sisters, Annette Patton of Titusville, Fla., Rosemary Stanley of Gainesville, Fla. and Doris Helen Tanner; three brothers, Charles Tanner of Augusta, Ga., James Tanner and Wallace Tanner; 21 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Tanner, a granddaughter, Ruth Patton, three sisters, Benita, Martina and Freda Tanner, and two brothers, Joseph and Robert Tanner.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 1999 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Equality. Fr. Mark Stec will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery at Equality.
There will be no visitation. Vickery Funeral Chapel of Equality is in charge of the arrangements.
Webb Deaton
Webb Deaton, 74, of Creal Springs, died 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his residence.
He was born May, 9, 1926, to Malon and Lou (Martin) Deaton in Creal Springs. He married
Velma (Horn) Deaton on Jan. 17, 1948, in Marion. She survives.
Visitation is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Cosby Funeral Home in Creal Springs, and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Mt. Moriah Church in Creal Springs. Service is 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Mt. Moriah Church. The Rev. Howard McDaniel and the Rev. Shorty Alsip will officiate. Burial is in Bolton-Trammel cemetery in rural Stonefort.
Webb was a graduate of Stonefort High School. He later entered the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. Webb worked in the coal mines at Carrier Mills for 19 years. He was also self-employed in the produce business and owned and operated Deaton Produce for 25 years with his wife and family.
He was an avid stock car driver and raced locally for 22 years. Friends will remember him as the driver of "EJ7" from years past.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Rickey W. Deaton of Creal Springs and Peggy L. Deaton of Sparta; three grandchildren Jeremy W. Deaton, Keri M. Deaton of Creal Springs, and Jarrett M. Deaton of Harrisburg; four great-grandchildren Tyler W. Deaton and Brett L. Deaton of Creal Springs, Ryen N. Deaton and Lacey M. Deaton of Harrisburg. Webb was preceded in death by his parents.
Theodore R. 'Ted' Boulds
Theodore R. "Ted" Boulds, 62, of Combs St., Ridgway, died 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Shawneetown to Charles Boulds and Opal Brison.
Visitation is 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Service is 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. James R. Hubbard will officiate. Burial is in Hogan cemetery in Shawneetown.
Mr. Boulds was employed in mine construction.
He is survived by a son, the Rev. Ted (Cindy) Boulds of Harrisburg; six brothers, James Tucker of Shawneetown, Harrison Tucker of Evansville, Ind., Gene Tucker of Ocala, Fla., Bob Tucker of Junction, Charles "Jr." Tucker of Junction, Fred Tucker of Equality; three sisters, Velma "Sis" Darnell of Shawneetown, Doris "Tiny" Dodd of Shawneetown, and Lorene Patrick of McLeansboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and four sisters.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hogan cemetery.
John Ledbetter
John Ledbetter, 78, of 215 S. McKinley St., Harrisburg, died 12:07 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born Jan. 29, 1922, in Elizabethtown to Walter and Callie (Heatherington) Ledbetter. He married
Youlanda Martin Nov. 20, 1948, in Illinois. She survives.
Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2001, at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Service is 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. Tom Flewellen will officiate. Burial is in Sunset Garden cemetery in Harrisburg. Mr. Ledbetter worked as a custodian at the First Presbyterian Church of Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Ledbetter of Carrier Mills; two sisters, Nell Frailey of Elizabethtown, Ruth Hansel of Girard; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Hurbert and Kenneth Ledbetter, and three sisters Virginia Fricker, June Hardin and Dorothy Mott.
Judith Smith
Judith Smith, 69, of 616 N. Friend, Carrier Mills, died 4:19 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Harrisburg Medical Center. She was born Sept. 15, 1931, in Saline County to Leslie "Bud" and Pearl (Dunn) Mullinix.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Graves will officiate. Burial is in Salem cemetery.
She was a member of Ledford Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, David (Janet) Smith of Carrier Mills, Timothy (Kay) Smith of Belleville; a sister, Doris Vargo of Gulfport, Miss.; five grandchildren, Melissa Engelman, Brooke Hill, Brandi Smith, Tony Smith, Blair Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Tylor and Amanda Howie, Alexis Engelman, and Justice Hill.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jack Mullinix.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Salem cemetery Association.
Edna Lynch
Edna Lynch, 76, of 15 East McHaney St., Harrisburg, died 7:50 a.m. Jan. 9, 2001, at Saline Care Center.
She was born July 3, 1924, in Tulu, Ky., to Roy and Carrie (Rogers) Lynch.
Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Service is 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the funeral chapel. The Rev. Phillip Fritts will officiate. Burial is in Raleigh Masonic cemetery.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First Apostolic Church.
She is survived by her mother, Carrie Lynch of Harrisburg and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Lynch.
Dr. Theodore D. Myrna
Dr. Theodore D. Myrna, 71, of Peoria, died 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in the Saint Francis Medical Center emergency room.
He was born April 3, 1929, in Eldorado, the son of Charles and Apollonia (Dieter) Myrna. He married
Jane Hanley on May 25, 1968. She survives.
He was a Navy veteran and practicing private physician for more than 40 years. He last worked at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center before retiring. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David of Peoria; three daughters, Linda Myrna, Debby Myrna, Diane Ewers, all of Peoria; three grandchildren; a brother, Dr. Charles W. Myrna of Carmi; two nieces, Carol L. Meyers of St. Charles, Nancy M. (John) Given of Evansville, Ind.; and an aunt, Elizabeth Myrna of Eldorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
A funeral mass was Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Glen Harris officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph's cemetery in West Peoria.
The Wright and Salmon Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Lela Pearce Downey
Lela Pearce Downey, 99, answered her Master's call at 8:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at her daughter's home, where she had lived for the past several years.
Lela was born Sept. 23, 1901, to Theophilis and Florence Clymer Morse in Pope County.
She wanted to be a teacher at an early age and started teaching when she was 18 years of age. She retired after teaching 35 years in Pope and Saline Counties. She was a member of Sloan Street General Baptist Church.
On Sept. 26, 1921, she married
Thomas Pearce. Four children were born to this union; Wanda, Lillian, David and W.T. Her husband Thomas died in 1983. In 1987 she married
the Rev. Carl Downey, and he preceded her in death Jan. 20, 1999.
Friends may call 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Reed Funeral Chapel of Harrisburg. Service is 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the funeral chapel.
Lela is survived by two children Wanda Pearcy and W.T. Pearce; five grandchildren Sam and Ed Steinsultz, Tommy and Harold Pearce and Wyvette Daly; 8 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a twin sister Freda Bryan; two step-daughters Betty Bradley of Raleigh, Louise Garrett of Paducah, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two children Lillian and David; two brothers J.D. and Harold Morse and a sister Sylvia Dent.
