Katie M. Weaver
Katie M. Weaver, 64, of Hot Springs, Ark., formerly of Harrisburg and Arkadelphia, Ark., died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 at National Park Hospital in Hot Springs.
She was born into the community of Fortune Fork, La., near present-day Tallulah, La., on Feb. 7, 1933 to Judson Smith Hayes, Jr., now of Los Angeles, and Moni Marie McWilliams of Tallulah. Both survive.
Mrs. Weaver married
Joseph Craig, Sr. of Harrisburg. They later divorced. She later married
her current husband, Wallace Weaver of Hot Springs. Both her current husband and first husband survive.
Also surviving are two daughters, Toni Garrison of Locust Grove (Thompsonville P.O.) and Stephanie Weaver Walker of Killeen, Texas; two sons, Joseph Craig, Jr., of Harrisburg and Gary Weaver of Arkadelphia; two brothers, Freddy and Thomas Wells of Las Vegas; three sisters, Mary Lee Hicks and Izella Wells of Las Vegas and Gloria Jean Brown of Tallulah; ten grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.
She enlisted as the first black Navy W.A.V.E. from the Los Angeles area in 1951. Later, she was honorably discharged and went into nursing. She retired as a nurse from Cedars of Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Greater Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 16th and Caddo streets in Arkadelphia. The Rev. Ron J. Browning will officiate.
Services are entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Arkadelphia. Burial will be in Piney Grove cemetery near Arkadelphia. Cards may be sent to the family in care of Mitchell Funeral Home, 1809 W. Caddo St., Arkadelphia AR 71923.
Maxine Smith
Maxine Smith, 76, of 6100 Mount Moriah Road near Harrisburg died at Wednesday monring, Nov. 12, 1997 at her home.
She was born in Eldorado on May 11, 1921, to Harry and Carrie (Quisenberry) Price. She married
Harry Smith on Oct. 4, 1952.
She is survived by her husband, sister Betty Gee of Richmond Hill, Ga., daughter Barbara Jacobsen of Harrisburg, grandson Larry Crowder of Coto De Gaza, Cal., granddaughter Jennifer Binns of Alizoviejo, Cal., and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Thomas R. Price and grandson Joel Dommer.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.
Visitation will start at 6 p.m. Friday at Aly Funeral home in Eddyville. Funderal Services are set at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Hayes will officiate.
Burial will be at Wolf Crek cemetery in Eldorado.
Lawrence Goolsby
Lawrence Goolsby, 64, of Rosiclare, died at 10:14 a.m. at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, IL.
Mr. Goolsby was the son of Pearlie and Mildred Goolsby and was retired from Peabody Coal Company.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Goolsby of Rosiclare; a son, Rocky Goolsby and daughter-in-law Vicky of Steeleville; his mother, Mildred Goolsby of Rosiclare; four sisters, Louise Moore and Phyllis Atkinson both of Rosiclare, Wilma Gibbs and brother-in-law Doc of Golconda and Maryann Hubbard of Cave-in-Rock; a brother, Arthur (Bud) Goolsby Sr., of Rosiclare; two grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation and services are pending from Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
Frank Douglas
Mr. Frank Douglas, 84, formerly of 2009 Saline Ave. in Eldorado died at 11:05 a.m. Nov. 10, 1997, at the Eldorado Care Center.
He was a farmer born in Omaha, Ill., on Dec. 10, 1912, to James F. and Mary Lou (Shaw) Douglas. He married
Helen P. Cox on Dec. 2, 1933, in Norris City. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Arnold Douglas and his wife Wilma Dell of Eldorado; two sisters, Ethel Davis of Eldorado, Delena Greer of Denver, Colo., two grandchildren Russell Douglas and his wife Karen and William Paul Douglas all of Eldorado; and three great-grandchildren, Heather Leigh Douglas, Zachary Ray Douglas and Krystal June Douglas, all of Eldorado.
Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by three brothers, Dallas C. Douglas, John W. Douglas and an infant boy; and three sisters, Bertha C. McKenzie, Carrie Johnson and Maggie Bruce.
He was a farmer by occupation.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Revs. Larry Pugh and Arthur Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Hazel Ridge cemetery in Omaha.
Tina Lynn Pabst
Tina Lynn Pabst, 41, of Du Quoin died at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Mrs. Pabst was born on Dec. 9, 1955, in Eldorado. She was the daughter of Clarence R. and Wanda (Koster) Brown.
She was a secretary for the Arch of Illinois Engineering Department. She was a member of the MPT Church of God in Du Quoin.
She married
Larry Pabst.
Mrs. Pabst is survived by her parents, Clarence R. and Wanda Brown; a son, Daren K. Pabst of Du Quoin; a daughter, Leslie Pabst of Du Quoin; a sister, Teri DiRico of Lewisburg, W. Va.; a brother, Rodney Brown of Du Quoin and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to the MPT Church of God Christian Academy and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Paul Larry Carter
Paul Larry Carter, 57, of Rural Route, 1 Herod, died at 7:05 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at Cox Funeral Home in Rosiclare at 1 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Steve Reed, Jr., officiated.
Burial was in Good Hope cemetery.
Minnie Stubbs
Minnie Stubbs, 88, a resident of Shawneetown, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 4:30 a.m. at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stubbs was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Hardin County to Richard T. and Elizabeth (Brown) Milligan, both deceased.
She was married
to Finch Stubbs, who is also deceased.
Mrs. Stubbs was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shawneetown.
She is survived by a daughter, Nannie and husband James Dietz, of Carmi; son Finch and wife Vickie Stubbs of Shawneetown; two sisters, Adele Satterfield of Shawneetown and Francis McGill of Wentzville, Mo.; one brother, Jeff Milligan of Hartford; grandchildren, Arthur Stubbs, Tony and Troy Dietz, Shelley and Dana Stubbs.
Visitation is set for Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown.
Pastor Jack Hall will officiate.
Burial will be at Westwood cemetery.
Alberta Wright
Alberta Wright, 84, of Shawneetown, died Wednesday at 4:22 a.m. at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
She was a retired executive secretary for the Chrysler Corporation.
Mrs. Wright was born June 8, 1913, in Harrisburg to Bert A. and Mabel (Baldwin) Wright, both deceased.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Shawneetown.
She is survived by a brother, Joe E. Wright of Shawneetown; a niece, Paulette Byassee of Shawneetown; a nephew, Joseph A. Wright of Augusta, Ga.; two great nieces, two great nephews and one great-great niece.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by a brother, John Robert Wright.
Visitation is set for Thursday, Nov. 13, from 4-8 p.m. at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown.
Rev. Julia Hazzard will officiate.
Burial will be at Westwood cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Shawneetown.
