Susan Pritchett Preller
Services for Mrs. Susan Pritchett Preller, 82, of Eldorado, who died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999 at Wasson Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Nelson and the Rev. Russell Helton will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery at Eldorado. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg and after 10 a.m. Friday until service time at the church.
Stephen Sisk
Memorial services for Stephen Sisk, 44, of Waukegan, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999 at the Social Brethren Church in Equality. The Rev. Bill Jones will officiate. The body has been cremated.
Mr. Sisk died Saturday, Sept. 18 in Waukegan. He is the son of Herbert "Hoby" Sisk of Equality and the late Lydia Sisk.
John Switzer
John Switzer, 91, former Gallatin County resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at the Jerseyville Nursing Rehab Center, where he had lived the past year.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1908 in Gallatin County to the late Louis Elmer and Ethel (Crunk) Switzer.
He married
the former Mable Mashburn on Jan. 5, 1938 in St. Charles, Mo. She died on Feb. 7, 1998.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Jane Phillips and Winser Davies of Florence, Ala.; and two grandchildren, John Phillips of Jerseyville and Missy Phillips of Godfrey.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville.
William 'Bill' Mills
William "Bill" Mills, 53, formerly of Ridgway and Rural, Omaha, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999 at his home in Humboldt.
He was born Nov. 2, 1945 in Benton to the late Morene and Retta (Woodruff) Mills.
On May 29, 1977, he married
the former Ginger Helm. She survives along with a daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jason Shumaker of Peotone; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Val Moore of Heber Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Donna Mills of Owensboro, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Spencer and Cody Shumaker.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola. Burial was in the Humboldt cemetery.
Charles K. 'Buck' Cannon
Charles K. "Buck" Cannon, 77, of 709 W. Sloan St., Harrisburg, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was owner and operator of Buck's Bar-B-Que for over 41 years. He was a veteran of World War II Army Air Corps.
On Dec. 29, 1945, he married
the former Helen Smith. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1991.
Mr. Cannon was born on Aug. 30, 1921, in Harrisburg, to the late Jesse and Clara (Hutchinson) Cannon.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mike Barnhill and Kathy and Donnie Lane, all of Harrisburg; two sisters, Mrs. Grant (Norma) Mings of Broughton and Mary Hindmarsh of Marion; a special friend, Katie Dearing of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Brad Barnhill, Kasey Barnhill, Brett Lane, and Brittany Lane, all of Harrisburg.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Cannon; a sister, Jane Mings; and two brothers, Maynard Cannon and Clifford Cannon.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Reed Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Ron Reed and the Rev. Keith Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery near Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Land Street Church of God in Harrisburg, where Mr. Cannon attended. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
James E. Beasley
James E. Beasley, 83, of Junction, died at 11:25 Thursday, Nov. 26, 199, in Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born on March 20, 1915, in the Big Ridge community to the late Sanford and Ethel (Johnson) Beasley.
He was a retired towboat tankerman and a World War II Army veteran.
He married
the former Ethel Eleam on Sept. 8, 1975. She survives along with two stepdaughters, Brenda Sue Winters of Junction and Glenda Reeves of Herod; and three stepsons, James L. Morse of Junction, Francis R."Bud" Morse, and Larry "Butch" Morse, both of Shawneetown; a sister-in-law, Mary Beasley of Galesburg; and two nephews, John Beasley of Galesburg and James Beasley, of Roscoe.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown, where friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. The Rev. James Hubbard will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery near Shawneetown.
Margaret Kibling
Margaret Kibling, 82, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
Burial was in Dodd cemetery Friday, Nov. 27.
Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado was in charge of the arrangements.
Betty Lou (Johnson) Hicks
Services for Mrs. Betty Lou (Johnson) Hicks, 67, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Eldorado, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alexander North Chapel, 4200 Stringtrown Road, Evansville, Ind. The Rev. Mitch Stichler will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. The family will gather at Sunset Lawn at 1 p.m. on Saturday for graveside services.
Mrs. Hicks, wife of Charles "Tom" Hicks, died at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Death was due to an apparent heart attack.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mildred DeMaris Hoot
Services for Mrs. Mildred DeMaris Hoot, 80, of Daytona Beach, Fla., who died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at her home, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Mark Haumschilt will officiate and burial will be in Liberty cemetery.
Mary L. Dillard
Services for Mrs. Mary L. Dillard, 87, of 1712 Grove St., Eldorado, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery at Eldorado.
Mrs. Dillard died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. She has been making her home in Eldorado with her nephew and niece, Richard and Dora Trail for the past year and a half.
James Milton Stricklin
James Milton Stricklin, 73, Fort Meyers, Fla., formerly of Harrisburg, died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at the Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center in Fort Meyers.
He was born May 25, 1926, in Harrisburg to the late Everett M. and Dorothy (Edwards) Stricklin.
On Feb. 1, 1948, he married
the former Sadie Lou Pearcy. She survives. Also surviving are five nieces and their spouses, Debbie and Bruce Allen, Tamara and Jim McGuire, Nancy and Stephen Hise, Judy Maloney, and Patty Shackleford; two nephews and their spouses, Steve and Janet Bundren and Mark and Shannon Pearcy; a sister-in-law and her husband, Dorothy and Bob Bundren; a brother-in-law and his wife, Bill and Brenda Pearcy of Olney. Also surviving are 13 great-nieces and nephews, Josh, Jake, Jace, Maegan, Larra, Blaine, Chelsea, Cameron, Miles, Aaron, Heather, Tera and Jason.
Mr. Stricklin retired from Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, Ind. in 1986 as a Respiratory Therapist. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was also a golf pro from Shawnee Hills Country Club and a PGA teaching pro.
He was a member of Harrisburg First United Methodist Church and Harrisburg Masonic Lodge. He and his father were Past Master Grand Lecturer for Masonic Grand Lodge of Illinois at the same time and was the only one in the state.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Dennis Doane will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn in Harrisburg.
Cecil D. Cox
Cecil D. Cox, 73, of 1205 W. Sixth St., Dixon, former resident of Ridgway, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999 at Dixon. He was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Ridgway to the late Clem and Hannah (Wargel) Cox.
He worked at the Dixon Developmental Center, Butternut Bread Co. and for the city of Dixon.
Mr. Cox was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. He was also a member of the Dixon Veteran of Foreign Wars, Dixon American Legion, Dixon Elks Lodge and the Dixon Moose Lodge. Surviving are a daughter, Janine McMillan of Wichita Falls, Texas; and five grandchildren, James A. Abell, 2nd Lt. Thomas J. Abell, Alice M. Abell, Garrett Wargel and Emily Wargel.
He was preceded in death by two children, Delaine Wargel and Alice A. Cox, two brothers, Virgil Cox and John Cox and a sister, Mary Catherine Craig.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ridgway, where friends may call after 9 a.m. until the funeral time. Rev. Mark Stec will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Ridgway with military rites conducted at the graveside by Ridgway American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
