Beulah Marie Martin
Mrs. Beulah Marie Martin, 65, of 1105 Triple S. Rd., Harrisburg, died at 1:29 p.m. Monday, May 10, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
In 1966, she married
James Martin. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1983.
She was born in Harrisburg on May 12, 1933 to the late Bert and Etta (Duncan) Reynolds.
Surviving are four daughters, LaVonne Snoke of Thornetown, Ind., Lori Halenda of Miami, Fla., Shannon Martin of Marion, and Sandra Martin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; a son, Larry Hooten of Palatka, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Sharia Salaine and Etta Lundy, both of Bradenton, Fla.; a stepson, Brent Martin of Bradenton; three brothers, Bertis Reynolds and Harold Reynolds, both of Harrisburg, and Billy Reynolds; a sister, Lucille Hancock of Harrisburg; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Spring Valley Social Brethren Church, where she was a member. The Rev. John Hancock will officiate. Cremation will follow.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
Owen F. Tarrant
Owen F. Tarrant, 83, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Carrier Mills, died at 7 p.m. Monday, May 10, 1999 in San Diego.
He was born in Carrier Mills on July 19, 1915, son of Otis and Mary (Stone) Tarrant.
Surviving are his wife, the former Frances Morgan; a daughter, Darlene Severs of San Diego; two sisters, Irene Norman of Carrier Mills and Lorene Hall of Eldorado; a brother, Glen Tarrant of Carrier Mills; brother-in-law, Fred Morgan of California; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial will be Thursday in San Diego.
Wilma R. Johnson
Mrs. Wilma R. Johnson, 86, of Shawneetown, died at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at her home. She married
Guy Frank Johnson on Sept. 10, 1932. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1968.
She was born on April 11, 1913, in Shawneetown to the late Charles W. and Lilly Mae (Eddings) Willis.
Mrs. Johnson retired as a case worker from Illinois Department of Public Aid.
She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown, where she taught a Sunday school class for over 60 years.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jim Buckner of Booneville, Ind.; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Ronald and Angie Johnson of Equality and John and Kay Johnson of Shawneetown; a brother, Melvin and wife, Bernita Willis of Shawneetown; and three sisters, Elizabeth Seaman of Wood River, Norma and husband, Lawrence Rich of Evansville, Ind. and Donna Hirsch of Elizabethtown.
Other survivors are nine grandchildren and their spouses, Laura and Timothy Downen, Julie and Tim Cox, Ashley Johnson, David and Lisa Johnson, Michael and Lillie Johnson, Dr. Ron Johnson, Robbie and Heather Duncan, Steve and Jodie Duncan, and Dennis and Julie Duncan; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Guy Charles Johnson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Shawneetown. The Rev. Ron Johnson and the Rev. Marvin "Bud" Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Hogan cemetery.
Visitation will be at Vickery Funeral Home in Shawneetown from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
John B. Barnett
John B. Barnett, 82, of New Haven, died at 9:32 p.m. Monday, May 10, 1999 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
He was retired owner and operator of Barnett's General Store in New Haven. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge and was a decorated veteran.
Mr. Barnett was born on Nov. 28, 1916, in New Haven to the late Dr. John and Clara (Purvis) Barnett.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in New Haven, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a 52-year member of the American Legion Post 1141, New Haven.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Farris, and special friends and neighbors, Roger and Pat Edmonds and family of New Haven; two brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Farris of Ridgway and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Farris of Florida; a sister-in-law, Melissa Drone of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elouise Barnett.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the New Haven Presbyterian Church, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Rev. Julia Hazzard will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Ridge cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post 596 at Ridgway.
Donations may be made to the New Haven Presbyterian Church Children's Christian Fellowship Fund. Vickery Funeral Chapel of Ridgway is in charge of the arrangements.
Sue B. Hill
Mrs. Sue Berryman Hill, 91, a resident of 2217 Pine St., Eldorado died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at Ridgway Manor Nursing Home.
In 1933 at Harrisburg, she married
Elmer Ivy Hill. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1972. Mrs. Hill was born on July 29, 1907, in East St. Louis, to the late Sidney and Estelle (Bowman) Berryman.
She was a well-known teacher and had taught school in Galatia, Ridgway, Norris City and Harrisburg, retiring in 1973. She was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and received her master's degree in 1954.
Mrs. Hill was a member of the Eldorado First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, and daughter-in-law, James E. and Dottie Hill of Eldorado; a daughter Sydney (Hill) Endicott of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Holly Kuykendall of Salado, Texas, Darr and wife, Donna Kuykendall of The Grove, Texas, Mrs. Jana and husband, Hisham Youssef of Harrisburg, Jason and wife, Carla Hill of San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Emily Kuykendall, Schuyler Kuykendall, Cameron Youssef, Jordan Youssef, and Lucas Hill. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Salisbury.
Graveside services will precede burial at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg. The Rev. Dennis Doane will officiate.
There will be no visitation at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Eldorado First United Methodist Church.
William M. "Bill" Kerr
Services for William M. "Bill" Kerr, 86, of Buncombe community, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The Rev. Mike Garrett will officiate and burial will be in the Pleasant Grove cemetery, near Buncombe.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove cemetery Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Susie Boarman
Mrs. Susie Boarman, 93, a resident of Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, died there at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996.
In 1924, she married
Henry Cronin Boarman Jr. He preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1983. She was a member of Harrisburg First Baptist Church.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1903, in Carterville to the late Dillon and Amarine Gaskins Carter.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Steve Gall of Peachtree City, Ga.; two granddaughters, Susan and husband, Joe Fulford of Gainesville, Ga. and Jane and husband, Ed Miner of Tyrone, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Derek Miner and Sean Miner, both of Tyrone.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Mike Davis will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
Madge Blackman
Mrs. Madge Blackman, 93, of U.S. Route 45, Carrier Mills, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 1996 at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
She was the widow of Orval Blackman and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1976. Mrs. Blackman was born on June 30, 1903, in Saline County to the late Anderson J. and Sarah Hancock.
She was a member of Carrier Mills First Baptist Church. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, where friends may call after 11 a.m. until service time Saturday. The Rev. Harl Cockrum will officiate and burial will be in Salem cemetery at Carrier Mills.
Madge Thompson
Mrs. Madge Thompson, 82, widow of Eugene Thompson, of Route 4, McLeansboro, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro.
She was a retired teacher in the Norris City and she and her husband owned and operated the Thompson Army and Navy Store in Hamilton County.
She was born on Feb. 9, 1914, in Hamilton County to the late Hillary Chalon and Millie Mitchell Sandusky. She was a member of Illinois Retired Teacher's and Hamilton
County Home Extension. She attended the New Prospect Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Roger Thompson of McLeansboro; two daughters, Keum Ok Thompson of Queens, N. Y. and Miryung Dickerson of Clayton, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Sunday until service time. Burial will be in IOOF cemetery.
