Gladys Mae Parks
Mrs. Gladys Mae Parks, 90, of Thompsonville, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday 27, 1999 at the home of her daughter in West Frankfort.
She married
Marion Parks on Oct. 19, 1927. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1962.
She was born on Jan. 8, 1909, in Franklin County to the late Ameal and Ardine (Troops) Doering.
Mrs. Parks was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Marie Parks of Thompsonville, Jess and Goldie Parks of Fairfield and Bill and Phyllis Park of Thompsonville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dor McCormick of Lockport, Frances and Vic Pearce of West Frankfort, Doris and Fred Ellis of Murphysboro and Sheila Wece of West Frankfort; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters, and a grandchild.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. John West will officiate and burial will be in Liberty cemetery, south of Thompsonville.
Grace M. Cummins
Mrs. Grace M. Cummins, 88, of 809 Park St., Eldorado, died at 9:48 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1999 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cummins in 1967.
Mrs. Cummins was born on Sept. 11, 1910, in Equality to the late George and Ellen (Ward) Sullivan.
She was a member of the Rocky Branch Social Brethren Church.
Surviving are a son, Carl Cobb of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Irene Tedford of Bourbonnais and Brenda Cummins of Eldorado; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Helen Rice and Ellen Ingersoll; and a nephew, Bill Ewell.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Hubert Bradley will officiate and burial will be in Cottage Grove cemetery.
Anna Margaret Morgan
Mrs. Anna Margaret Morgan, 87, widow of Gordon Morgan, formerly of Rosiclare, died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1999 in the Pope County Care Center at Golconda.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelene and Dale Stone of Rosiclare, Ruby and Bob Buchanan of Rural, Golconda; a sister, Beatrice Cox of Harrisburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gordon, two brothers, Rodney Hurford and Barnard Hurford, a sister, Earlene Lee, and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will precede burial at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Fluorine cemetery in Rosiclare. The Rev. Roy Lee Baker will officiate and burial will be in the Fluorine cemetery at Rosiclare.
There will be no visitation at Hosick Funeral Home in Rosiclare.
Silas H. Gordon
Silas H. Gordon, 76, of Springfield, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at St. John's Hospice.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1922, the son of George W. and Mary (Kirk) Gordon.
He married
Elvine Torian, she preceded him in death. He later married
Virginia Portee and she preceded him in death. In 1980, he married
Arline Auker. She died on June 9, 1993.
Mr. Gordon was owner and operator of Captain Worm Bait Shop in Harrisburg. He was a World War II Army Veteran CPL, 8th Air Force Headquarters, 461st Aviation Squadron and a member of the American Legion in Harrisburg.
Survivors include a son, Silas E. and wife, Genoveva Gordon of Springfield; four stepsons, William and wife, Dorothy Fossie, Wesley and wife, Mary Fossie, all of Murphysboro, Lowell Moss of Chicago, and Harold Newsom of Harrisburg; four daughters, Lana and husband, Ron Hayes of Houston, Texas, Connie and Sian Gordon, of Springfield, and Rose Mary Givens of Lansing, Mich.; seven step-daughters, Detra Tucker of Springfield, Marquetta Newsom of Carrier Mills, Wilma Fossie, Julie Fossie, Brenda Alexander and Barbara and husband, Orlin of Campbell, all of Elgin, and Mary Fossie of Peoria.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Keela Gordon of Lancaster, Texas, Kandice Gordon of Springfield, Monique Hayes and Justin Hayes, both of Houston, Texas, Faith Givens and Jamison Givens, both of Lansing; 19 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer Gibson and Edward Gibson, and two sisters, Elizabeth Russ and Oletha Gordon.
Burial was in Camp Butler National cemetery in Springfield on Monday, April 26, 1999.
Rosalee Fark
Mrs. Rosalee Fark, 67, wife of James Fark, of 890 Jenny Ridge Rd., Carrier Mills, died at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1999 at St. Mary Medical Center, Evansville, Ind.
She was born on July 17, 1931, in Evansville, Ind. to the late Earl and Ada (Van Bibber) Beard.
Mrs. Fark was a member of the Land Street Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Kimberly Bruce, Brenda Lisa Patterson, and Sheila Bruce, all of Harrisburg and Pam Bruce of Metropolis; a brother, Terry Beard of Rushville, Ind.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Thomas Brown, James O. Fark Jr., Heath Fark and Keith Fark.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kendall Jones will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Anna L. Somers
Ms. Anna L. Somers, 83, of Canton, died at 12:10 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1999 in Graham Hospital Extension Care.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1916, in Harrisburg, to the late Jess and Netta (Abney) Moore.
She married
Fred Somers on Sept. 14, 1935 in Harrisburg. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1981.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Strode of Canton, Peggy Frank of Irvine, Calif., and Judy Cully of Athens; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Thompson of Canton and Marilouise Ulrey of Redfield, Ark.
She was a legal secretary for Lawrence McMunn in Canton for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton, Order of The Eastern Star in Canton and the local Daughters of the American Revolution.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Murphy Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, where visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Larry Campbell officiated and burial was in the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Canton.
Leonard L. Lindsey
Memorial services for Leonard L. Lindsey will be held Saturday, May 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Ingram Hill Baptist Church.
He died Dec. 27, 1998 at the Shand's Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla.
Surviving are his wife, Corinne (Smith) Lindsey, formerly of Harrisburg; two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Leslie) Winfrey of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Lisa Lindsey of Charlotte, N.C., five sisters, and two brothers from the Herrin area.
The Rev. David Gilley will conduct the service. The ashes will be interred in Ingram Hill cemetery.
Hazel Potter
Mrs. Hazel Potter, 84, of 10 E. National St., Harrisburg, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday, April 30, 1999 at her home.
She was the widow of Samuel R. Potter.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Nancy Potter of Kansas City, Mo.; and a sister, Muriel Partain of Harrisburg.
