Mildred DeMaris Hoot
Mrs. Mildred DeMaris Hoot, 80, of Daytona Beach, Fla., died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at her home.
She was the former Mildred Jones of the Dorrisville area.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in Harrisburg to the late August and Katherine (McDowell) Jones.
Mrs. Hoot was a member of Dorrisville Baptist Church and American Legion Navy Mothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Sobak of Port Orange, Fla., Phyllis Kay Parker of Daytona, Fla., and Eliece Petri of Hobart, Ind.; a sister, Elsie Ferrell of Harrisburg; 10 grandchildren, David DeMaris of Texas, Dana DeMaris, of Illinois, Brandy Jo DeMaris, Suzanne DeMaris, and Sarah DeMaris, all of Indiana, Renee Carmody of Massachusetts, Anthony Sobak of Arizona, Earl Hafner, Lynn Ferguson, and Kelly Evans, all of Indiana; eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald DeMaris and Doug DeMaris, a grandson, Joey Sobak, four sisters, Stella Simpson, Etta Dillon, Mary Glass, and Nellie Jones, and six brothers, Claude, Hubert, Gussie, Daniel, and Vernor Jones, and Louie McDowell.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time, on Saturday. The Rev. Mark Haumschilt will officiate and burial will be in Liberty cemetery. `
Margaret Kibling
Mrs. Margaret Kibling, 82, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Mary L. Dillard
Mrs. Mary L. Dillard, 87, of 1712 Grove St., Eldorado, died at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. She was the widow of Wallie Dillard.
She had been making her home with friends, Richard and Dora Trail, in Eldorado, for the past year and a half.
She was born on March 3, 1911, in New Haven, to the late Marion and Grace (Bonner) Trail.
Mrs. Dillard was a member of Star General Baptist Church.
Mrs. Dillard was a former employee at the Masonic Home in Sullivan, Ind.
Surviving are a brother, Carl Trail of Griffin, Ind.; two grandchildren, David Dillard and Steven Dillard, both of Joliet; two great-grandchildren, David Lee Dillard and Shawn Dillard, both of Joliet; a great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Jenny Dillard of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Byford Dillard, three brothers, Charles, Wilburn and Henry Trail, and three sisters, Lela Clark, Grace Drone and Mamie Trail.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Lindale cemetery at Eldorado.
Robert D. Swaggirt
Robert D. Swaggirt, 39, of 1900 Main St., Eldorado, was dead on arrival Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, 2:30 p.m. at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born in Peoria, on Dec. 29, 1957 to Charles and Mary Cullum Swaggirt.
He was a maintenance laborer.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Hutchinson, Harrisburg; his former wife, Zelda Jones of Equality; a daughter, Amanda Swaggirt; and a son, Wesley Swaggirt, both of Eldorado; two brothers, Steve Swaggirt and Rodger Swaggirt, both of Harrisburg; and a granddaughter, Ashley Crist of Eldorado.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Equality.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family and may be left at the funeral home.
David E. Scroggins
David E. Scroggins, 74 of Edward St., Ridgway, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at 9:06 a.m. in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Ridgway American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he was a Past Commander, 32nd Degree Mason in Ridgway and a Past Master.
Mr. Scroggins was born in Harco, on Feb. 10, 1923 to the late William E. and Isabelle (Sloan) Scroggins.
Surviving are three daughters, Marsha Ladley-Sullivan of Wetumpkas, Ala., Lori Downey of Equality, and Amy Bratcher of Ridgway; a son, Dave Scroggins, Omaha; two brothers, Don Scroggins of Palm City, Fla. and Jim Scroggins of Florida; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a companion, Glenda Crider of Ridgway.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, his parents, and two brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Ridgway, where he was a member. The Rev. Julia Hazzard will officiate. Burial will be in the Jackson cemetery at Ridgway with military rites.
Lisa Lynn Vinyard Briggs
Mrs. Lisa Lynn Vinyard Briggs, 35, of 15 Fairfax Drive, Harrisburg, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at 8 a.m. in St. Mary Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
She was born on May 14, 1962, in Harrisburg to Floyd "Dadie" Vinyard and Judy Nolen Vinyard.
She was a Protestant by faith and Who's Who in Business, Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, and Harrisburg Booster Club.
She was a nursing home administrator.
Survivors include her mother, Judy Vinyard; her father, Floyd "Dadie" Vinyard of Harrisburg; Ben Briggs of Harrisburg; a daughter, Casey Sowels of Harrisburg; a brother, Steve and wife, Trena Vinyard of Harrisburg; two sisters, Julie and husband, Larry Piche of Springfield, and Amy Kurtek of Marion; her grandmother, Charlotte Nolen of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Vinyard on April 22, 1997.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Reed Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Harold Williams will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
Robert "Jr." Vaught
Robert "Jr." Vaught, 72, of Ridgway, died at the home of his daughter, Sandy Brown, in Mount Vernon, Ind.
He was born on July 24, 1924, in Leamington to the late Raymond and Junie (Ginger) Vaught.
Mr. Vaught was a World War II veteran and a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, the former Wilma Hendrix of Ridgway; a daughter, Sandy Brown of Mount Vernon, Ind.; a son, Jim and wife, Eva Vaught of Evansville, Ind.; three sisters, Geraldine O'Neal of Ridgway, Inez Cowsert and Merle Potts, both of Eldorado; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Bob Vaught.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Wayne Nicholas will officiate and burial will be in Jackson cemetery at Ridgway.
Zula Marie Lyons
Zula Marie Lyons, 76, of 918 Third St., Eldorado, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997 at 7:35 a.m. in Eldorado Care Center, following a long illness.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1920, in Lewisburg, Ky., to the late Hershel and Bessie (Drake) Lyons. She had been a resident of Eldorado since 1954.
Miss Lyons had worked at Ferrell Hospital and at Magnolia Nursing Home, both in Eldorado, retiring in 1987.
She was a longtime member of Eldorado Gospel Assembly Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Mae Barber of Pico Rivera, Calif., and Ruth McPhail of Dayton, Ohio; four brothers, Herman T. and wife Viola Lyons, Morris T. and Delphine Lyons and William E. and Katherine Lyons, all of Dayton, Clarence J. Lyons of Montebello, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, W.F. Eleman.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Dewayne Jolly will officiate. Graveside services will precede burial at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Russellville Memorial Gardens in Russellville, Ky.
Cecil Junior Harris
Cecil Junior Harris, 62, of 1811 Gardner, Murfreesboro, Tenn., died at 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Jennings-Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro, where visitation was held Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Mike Creasy officiated and burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Saline County on Oct. 29, 1934, to the late Dossie and Lucy (Tavender) Harris.
On Dec. 17, 1977, in Murfreesboro, he married
the former Gloria Faye Willis, who survives. Also surviving are one sister and brother-in-law, Anna Mae and Walter McKinnies of Broughton; two brothers-in-laws and wives, Eddie and Pam Willis of Murfreesboro, Jim and Carol Willis of Christiana, Tenn.; four sisters-in-law, Cindy and husband, Bill Cooper, Edna Jacobs and Elizabeth and husband, Tommy McCormick of Murfreesboro, and Brenda Harris of Eldorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Lee Harris, a sister, Gertie Riley and two infant sisters, Catherine Marie and Betty Lou Harris.
