Wilburn 'Boon' Williams
Wilburn "Boon" Williams, 79, of New Haven, died April 14, 2001, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. from cancer.
He was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Norris City, the son of the late Richard and Renda Mae (Catlin) Williams. He was married
to the former Dorothy (Chapman) Williams on June 3, 1939. She survives.
Mr. Williams was retired from Babcock and Wilcox in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was a WWII Navy veteran and a member of the New Haven American Legion and Carmi VFW. He had served in years past on the New Haven School Board, New Haven Village Board, and as New Haven Township Trustee.
Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven. Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. Sonny Holtzclaw will officiate. Burial is in Union Ridge cemetery in New Haven, where military rites will be conducted.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy Williams of New Haven, he is survived by two sons, Danny (Carolyn) Williams of Norris City, Jim (Rose) Williams of Norris City; a daughter, Sondra Emerson of New Haven; two brothers, Richard Williams Jr., Bob Williams; five sisters, Aline Poshard, Mayme Harvey, Fleeta Guffey, Letha Porter, Opal Porter; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law.
Hannah Virginia Lasersohn Lee
Hannah Virginia Lasersohn Lee, 87, a lifelong resident of Harrisburg, died 9:15 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at her home. She was born June 21, 1913, in Harrisburg, the oldest child of the late Mary and Frank Thomas. She married
Eli Lasersohn August 24, 1935. They were married
for 48 years when he preceded her in death 1979. She married
George B. Lee March 2, 1989. He preceded her in death in 1994.
After graduating from Harrisburg Township High School in 1931, Hannah began working in sales at Buell's, a local store owned by Eli and Jack Lasersohn. There she met her future husband, Eli. Hannah and Eli established Myrons, a women's fashion business in 1932. Myrons grew from the 5 E. Poplar location to 7 E. Poplar and an adjoining space on South Main Street. Their business, based on quality merchandise and customer service, consisted, at its peak, of five stores in Southern Illinois. She was a successful business woman before it was fashionable and was her husband's closest adviser.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Soroity in Harrisburg, Evergreen Garden Club, and the Women's Club.
Visitation is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Service is 3 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the funeral home. The Rev. George Schmink will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the First United Methodist Church. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jane (Dr. Warren) Tuttle of Harrisburg, Jill Lasersohn (Pete) Dangerfield of Lakewood, Ohio; a brother, Frank (Nan) Thomas, Jr. of Sewanee, Tenn.; a sister, Lida "Torchy" Schork of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Pamela Seright Pearson of Harrisburg, Peter Lasersohn Dangerfield of Chicago, Jill Lasersohn Nuss of Federal Way, Wash., Jeffrey Compton Lasersohn of Tigard, Oregon, John David Lasersohn of Mountain View, Calif., James Allen Lasersohn of Seattle, and their mother, Joan.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Jack Thomas Lasersohn in 1992; a granddaughter, Amy Jo Seright in 1975; and a sister, Dorothy Thomas in 1928.
Maxine Pyles
Maxine Pyles, 84, of Lincoln, formerly of Wayne City, died 1:45 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at Manito.
Visitation was 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City. Service was 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at the funeral home. Burial is in Olive Branch cemetery in Wayne City.
She is survived by her husband, Ira Pyles of Lincoln, two sons, five daughters, 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Peggy Ann Ruphard
Peggy Ann Ruphard, 62, of Broughton, died 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2001, at her home.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at the funeral home.
Stella S. Reed
Mrs. Stella S. Reed, 74, wife of James R. Reed, of 405 Willow Lake Road, Eldorado, died at 7:47 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1924, in Hickory Valley, Tenn. to the late Oscar and Carrie (Belle) Smith, but was raised by Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Hammons of Boliver, Tenn.
She attended Boliver Central High School and Jackson, Tenn. WTBC College. She worked at the Harrisburg Cap Factory in Harrisburg for 17 years.
Mrs. Reed was a past president and treasure of Eldorado American Legion for many years, and a current member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Star General Baptist Church.
On June 28, 1958, she and Mr. Reed were married
. In addition to Mr. Reed, she is survived by two sons, Lewis Reed of Eldorado and Buddy Reed of Gurnee; a brother, Melvin Kenneth Smith of Germantown, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Tobi Lyn (Reed) Gross of Ridgway, Crystal B. James of Evansville, Kerri Rae Reed, and Brenton Reed, both of Eldorado, Terra Rae Reed, Derek Reed, and Amber Reed, all of Gurnee; three great-grandchildren, Jaden Gross, Jacob Gross, and Jared Gross, of Ridgway, and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, a twin, Virginia Eulene, and Mary Lou Davidson of Memphis and Elizabeth Stroupe of Grand Junction, Tenn., and two brothers, Wesley Robert and Hugh Donald Smith, both of Memphis.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.

Ruth Wilma (Duffy) McGuire
Mrs. Ruth Wilma (Duffy) McGuire died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at 3:15 a.m. in Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a lifelong resident of Gallatin County having lived in New Haven and Ridgway.
She was the eighth of nine children of John and Hannah (Doherty) Duffy. She was born on March 15, 1919 in the Pond Settlement Community, five miles east of Ridgway. She married
Leo Norton McGuire on Aug. 1, 1942, in Monterey, Calif. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1991.
She attended Daily School and graduated from Ridgway High School in 1936. She completed her elementary teaching credentials at Southern Illinois Normal College in the late thirties. She taught in three of the famous one room schools in Gallatin County (Keene, Daily and Maple Grove) in the late thirties and early forties. She lived in California for three years while her husband was in the military service. Upon returning to Gallatin County, she helped her husband operate the McGuire Standard Service Station in New Haven for 33 years. She also taught elementary school in Old Shawneetown and then in Shawneetown from 1965-1984.
She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar Society, the Daughters of Isabella, the New Haven American Legion Auxiliary, the Gallatin County Homemaker's Extension, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Illinois Education Association.
She is survived by two daughters, one son and their spouses, Marcia E. and David Allen of Murphysboro, Monica S. and Steve Daily of Valdez, Alaska, and D.J. and Sheila McGuire of New Haven. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Kristina Allen and her husband, Brian Harrison of Champaign, Steven Thomas Daily of Valdez, Alaska, and Jennifer Rene and Alyssa Jo McGuire of New Haven.
She is also survived by five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lucille Lawler and Betty and Thad Seely of Rural Ridgway, Evadeen Coleman, Geneva Scates and Regina and Cedric Drone of Shawneetown; three sisters-in-law, Mary McGuire of Harrisburg, Blanche Seiner of Florissant, Mo. and Olive Duffy of Barnhart, Mo. Also many nieces, nephews, and other family members survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Marie Helen Duffy, and two brothers, Martin and Stephen Duffy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Ponds Settlement, the Ruth W. McGuire Scholarship Fund, in care of Banterra Bank, Ridgway, IL or the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are pending at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.
Madge M. Stacey
Madge M. Stacey (nee Baldwin), age 86 of Belleville, formerly of East St. Louis, died Friday, January 29, 1999 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
She was born, Dec. 26, 1912, in Equality, Mrs. Stacey was a retired L.P.N. from St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Belleville, Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post 8677.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Hiram Britton Stacey; infant son, Charles Louis Stacey; one daughter, Eloise Stacey Reyburn; parents, Louis and Anna Coleman Baldwin; three sisters, Elizabeth McKinney, Louise Torti, Virginia Hollick; one brother, Louis I. Baldwin.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna G. (Don) Olsson of Fairview Heights; two sons, Bill (Diane) Stacey of Fairview Heights; Gary B. (Remy) Stacey of Belleville; nine grandchildren, Donald (Mary) Olsson of Fairview Heights; Sue Anne (Brett) Newton of O'Fallon; Michael (Andrea L.) Stacey of Fairview Heights; Donna (Steve) Lyman of Kansas City, Mo.; David (Lou) Reyburn of Kansas City, Mo., Capt. Richard G. Stacey of Hanscom Field, Mass.; Lisa Stacey of Boston, Mass.; Gary B. (Jenni) Stacey, Jr. of Belleville; Charles (Tara) Britton Stacey of Omaha, Neb.; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at Kassly Mortuary at Fairview Heights.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, with Rev. Drew Kramer officiating, followed by graveside services at 1 p.m. at Elmwood cemetery, Equality.
Floyd 'Dadie' Vinyard
Floyd "Dadie" Vinyard, 67, of 205 W. Park Street in Harrisburg, died on Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at 4:30 p.m. in Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mr. Vinyard was born in Gallatin County on August 23, 1931, to Ernest K. and Sarah Graham Vinyard. On March 24, 1956, he married
the former Judy Nolen, who survives.
Mr. Vinyard was retired from Sahara Coal where he worked for 34 years. An air force veteran of the Korean War, he was a protestant by faith, a member of the Lions Club, he was an avid sports fan and a member of the booster club, an auxiliary deputy of the Saline County Sheriff's Department and he had been a candidate for city commissioner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Keith Vinyard; daughter, Lisa Briggs; a sister, Jewel Walker, and two brothers, Harold Vinyard and Earl Vinyard.
He is survived by a son, Steve (Trena) Vinyard of Harrisburg; two daughters, Julie (Larry) Piche of Chatham and Amy Kurtek of Marion; a son-in-law, Ben Briggs of Harrisburg; a sister, Bonnie Guantt of Godfrey and 12 grandchildren: Brad, Brooke, Ben, Josh, Jacob, Jaci and Rachael Vinyard, Ben Graves, Casey Sowels, Garrick and Kelsey Piche, and Haley Kurtek.
Visitation was held Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Reed Funeral Chapel, where services were held at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Aurthur Austin Jr. officiating. Burial was in Sunset Lawn cemetery.

Mary Lucille Davis
Mrs. Mary Lucille Davis, 84, of Golconda, died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.
She is survived by her husband, Chester Davis of Golconda; a son, Wayne Davis of Golconda; son-in-law, John C. Okerson of Golconda; two sisters, Mrs. Perry (Ressie) Billington and Mrs. Wayne (Irene) Wagner; two brothers, Alvis Belford, and Lloyd and wife, Vivian Belford, all of Golconda; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Sarah (Cummins) Belford, a daughter, Dorles Okerson, a son, Kenneth Dale Davis, a sister, Audry Brown, a brother, Donald Belford, and a great-grandson, Mathew Baxter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 at Hosick Funral Home, Rottmann Chapel in Golconda, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Billy Green will officiate and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Lodge cemetery at Golconda.
