Leo Clarida
Leo Clarida, 91, of Carrier Mills, died at 8:32 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 1999 in the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
He was born on Dec. 20, 1907, in Brushy Township to the late Jess and Emma (Allen) Clarida. Mr. Clarida retired from Peabody Coal Mine and was a Protestant by faith.
On April 16, 1933, he married
the former Mildred Hickman. She survives. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Karen Clarida of Harrisburg; a daughter, Judy Pemberton of Marion; a brother, William J. Clarida Sr. of Eldorado; a sister, Virginia White of Galatia; six grandchildren, Brynn and Lindsey Clarida, Audrey Poole, Amy Schuhadt, Kelly Martin and John Clarida; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton, Katrina and Johnathan Martin.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Dale Clarida and a sister, Loretta Sanders.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Vola Sittig will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Charles "Red" Kingston
Charles "Red" Kingston, 82, of 400 Park St., Shawneetown, died Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife, former Pauline Greer. They were married
on July 3, 1943. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Marilyn Rogers of Shawneetown and Mike and Dawn Kingston of Homer; three sisters, Emma Jane Wallace of Equality, Dolly Wheeler of Rantoul, and Eva Hanes of Sydney; four grandchildren, Sam Rogers, Sandra Riley, Ashley and Lance Kingston; and five great-grandchildren, Lara Riley, Samuel, Dean, Mandy and Lauren Rogers.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, Virgil, Joe, Sim, Ed and Orval Kingston, two half-brothers, Marion and Walter Kingston, three sisters, Minnie Engelton, Maggie George and Ella Kingston, and a half-sister, Sally Payne.
He was born on March 17, 1917, in Junction to the late Sim and Dona (Roberts) Kingston. Mr. Kingston retired as a laborer from the Cabinet Factory and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the McGhee cemetery at Junction. Military rites will be performed by the Ridgway American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War.
Leroy Williams
Graveside services for Leroy Williams, 59, of Harrisburg, will precede burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Sunset Gardens cemetery in Harrisburg. The Rev. Roger Lyons will officiate.
There will be no visitation at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
James Thomas Russell
Private services for James Thomas Russell, 77, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ledford cemetery. His wife, Evangelist Margaret Ann Russell will officiate. Military rites will be by the Carrier Mills American Legion.
Gaskins Funeral Home of Harrisburg is in charge of the arrangements.

Services for Robert S. Hayes, 70, of Eldorado, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, . where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown.
Hubert Harrelson
Services for Hubert Harrelson, 62, of Equality, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Vickery Funeral Chapel in Equality, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Larry Powers will officiate and burial will be in Cottage Grove cemetery at Equality.
Leonard L. Lindsey
Memorial services for Leonard L. Lindsey of Gainesville, Fla. will be held Saturday, May 1, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Ingram Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. David Gilley will officiate, The ashes will be interred in Ingram Hill cemetery.
He died Dec. 27, 1998 at the Shand's Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla..
Bonnie W. Burnam
Mrs. Mark (Bonnie) W. Burnam, 71, of 805 S. Ledford St., Harrisburg, died at 1:02 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She married
Mark Burnam on Aug. 25, 1925, in Mount Vernon, Ind. He preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1992.
Mrs. Burnam was born on May 5, 1907, in Belknap to the late Joseph and Cynthia (Crossland) Crawford.
She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg and the Ladies Auxiliary of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Nyla June and Charles Heffington of Stuart, Fla. a grandson, Mark and wife, Joan Heffington of Derby, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Grant Heffington and Guy Heffington; two step-grandchildren, Gavin Moore and Garrison Moore, of Derby; and a half-sister, Wilma Huckelberry of Belknap.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John Crawford, a daughter in infancy, and two sisters, Mae Abernathy and Bess Conrad.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ben Anderson will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Doane. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery at Belknap.
Wilma Sexton Gilliam
Mrs. Wilma (Sexton) Gilliam, 71, of Golconda, died at 3 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at her home. She was married
on March 9, 1946 to James Gilliam. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1987.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1928, in Pope County to the late Lester and Rosa (Shetler) Sexton.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Golconda and a graduate with the Class of 1947 from Golconda High School.
Mrs. Gilliam was a secretary at Pope County Elementary School for 19 years and at the Golconda Job Corps for five years.
Surviving are a special friend, Clarence Moody of Golconda; a sister-in-law, Loudean Hicks, and several cousins. A brother preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Paul Sadler and the Rev. Tim Sadler will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Golconda.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Golconda.
Everett Burnett Brantley
Everett Burnett Brantley, 77, died at his home, 1419 S. Washington St., Harrisburg, at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 1999.
He was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Harrisburg to the late Ranzy and Ethel (Durfee) Brantley.
Mr. Brantley retired from Will Scarlett Coal Mine and was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Harrisburg Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, United Mine Workers of America, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign wars.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene (Lane) Brantley; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Janice Brantley of Harrisburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Darrell Cavender and Matilda and Jack Grisham, all of Harrisburg; and six grandchildren, Todd Cavender, Angela Brantley, Kristy Beers, Amy Buchanan, Diana Hadley and Kit Brantley; and a sister, Lela Hurd of Florida.
He was preceded in death by one son, Arthur Brantley, and a brother, Orval Brantley.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic rites will be at 6 p.m. The Rev. James Guynn will officiate. Burial will be in Pierson Hill cemetery.
Delmond W. Weir
Delmond W. Weir, 68, of Galatia, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born July 21, 1931 in the Hamburg community to the late Cressy and Arda Mae (Tucker) Weir.
Mr. Weir was an engineer at McDonald-Douglas as an Aircraft Designer in St. Louis and a World War II Army veteran. He was also a former industrial arts teacher in local schools.
He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include an aunt, Madge Tate and a cousin, Donna Russell, both of Galatia.
The body has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Durham cemetery in Hamburg. Dr. James Baldwin will officiate.
There will be no visitation at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Durham cemetery.
Thelma Lorene Gass
Mrs. Thelma Lorene Gass, 85, of Eldorado, died at 1:52 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Mary Beth Fetcho in Eldorado.
She was born July 2, 1914, in Eldorado to the late Thomas Alvin and Mary Alice (Nelson) Neal.
Mrs. Gass was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Franklin Gass in 1981.
She was retired as a dietary worker from the A.L. Bowen Children's Center in Harrisburg. She was a member of the First Church of Christ in Eldorado.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary Beth Fetcho of Eldorado; a son, Earl Eugene and his wife, Gwendolyn Gass of Lake Station, Ind.; a brother, John William and wife, Betty Neal; a sister, Mary Jean and her husband, Millard Rice, all of Eldorado; five grandchildren, Randy Lee Fetcho of Los Angeles, Calif., Jeff and wife, Lisa Fetcho, of Eldorado, David and wife, Jennifer Gass of Alexandria, Va.; Ron and wife, Becky Gass of Lake Station, Debbie and her husband, Dave Draper of Peru; and great-grandchildren, Justin and Jara Fetcho of Eldorado, Amberjune Airel Crisma and Ronnie Gass of Lake Station, Michael Gass of Alexandria, and Chance Draper of Peru; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ella Rose Neal, Helen Louise Genet, Ruby Fern Tapley, Raymond Alvin and Thomas James Neal.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Bryan Morrow will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.
