Mildred Schroll
Mrs. Mildred Schroll, 97, of 1000 West Sloan St., Harrisburg, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 1997 in Harrisburg Medical Center.
On Nov. 8, 1917, she married
Freeman Earl Schroll. He preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1960.
Mrs. Schroll was born on Sept. 7, 1899, in Herod to the late Joseph Sherman and Alice Reynolds Lambert.
She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Harrisburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Lela Guest of Duncanville, Texas and Phyllis and husband, Wayne Conrad of Belleville; a son-in-law, Frank Roberts of Harrisburg; a sister-in-law, Effie Vinyard of Paris; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Geneva Schroll and Carolyn Roberts; a son, Bert Schroll; and two grandsons.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Elder Gordon Lambert will officiate, assisted by Priest Ed Kuppart. Burial will be in Lindale cemetery at Eldorado.
William Paul Ledbetter
William Paul Ledbetter, 52, of Huntington Beach, Calif., died Saturday evening, as a result of a plane crash.
He was born in Hardin County on Dec. 25, 1944, to the late Howard and Viola Brown Ledbetter.
He was employed by General Tel in California and a 1963 graduate of Cave-in-Rock High School.
Surviving are his wife, Jan Ledbetter; and children, Rebekah, Mark, Rachel and John; a sister and brother-in-law, Gertie and Jack Quertermous of Herod; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Patty Ledbetter of Harrisburg and Bob and Norma Ledbetter of Louisville, Ky. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Patterson; and a brother in infancy.
Funeral and burial will be in California at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Charles Ray Seals
Charles Ray Seals, 57, of Dallas, Texas, died at his home Saturday, June 28, 1997.
He was born in Lee County, Va., on Jan. 23, 1940, to the late Mitchell Seals and Thelma Bryant Seals, who survives.
Mr. Seals was a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of the Duncanville Baptist Church in Duncanville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Seals and they were married
on March 31, 1992. Also surviving are a son, Charles Ray Seals Jr., of Dallas; two daughters, Janie Marie Seals of Harrisburg and Rosemary Seals of Eldorado; his mother, Thelma Seals of Ben Hur, Va.; three brothers, James Seals of Albuquerque, N.M., Paul Seals of Bernalillo, N.M. and Jimmy Seals of Boulder City, Nev.; two sisters, Shirley Bement of Elko, Nev. and Sue Price of Cumberland, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will precede burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Lindale cemetery at Eldorado. The Rev. George Malis will officiate.
Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
James Murphy and Jymme Murphy
Services for James Murphy, 27, and his wife, Jymme, age 28, of Marseilles, will be held Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at the Sontag Funeral Home in Joliet. A trust fund has been established at the Turn Oaks Savings Bank, 125 West Bluff St., Marseilles, IL 61341 for the Murphy children.
Leon Cossey
Services for Leon Cossey, 72, of Golconda, will be held at 1 p.m Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Liberty cemetery.
James Grattan Logsdon
James Grattan Logsdon, 87, of Ridgway, died at noon Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born on March 6, 1911 in Shawneetown, to the late Robert E. Lee and Margaret (Meek) Logsdon.
In 1936, he married
the former Tommie Sherrick, who died this November.
He attended school in Shawneetown. He was in business with his brother, and in 1941 he and his wife moved to Ridgway, where Grattan owned and operated a tavern, but his heart was in training thoroughberd horses. He trained horses for more than half a century throughout the midwest and occasionally in Florida.
Some of the better horses from the '30s through the '80s were Moisson, Just Right, Jaimsie, Bar Ja and Bosunwood. There are few horsemen left with his insight of horses.
Surviving are two sons, James G. Logsdon Jr., who is a veterinarian in Hot Springs, Ark., and Robert Clay Logsdon, who is a pilot for American Airlines and lives in Dallas; four grandchildren, James G. Logsdon III of Atlanta, Ga., Jacqueline Holly Simpson of Wurzburg, Germany, Todd Logsdon of Little Rock, Ark, and Amy Kristen Weis of Kettering, Ohio; a great-grandson, Alexander Kyle Simpson of Wuzburg, Germany; two sisters, Jessie Wiseheart of Swansea, and Maude Gaskins of Marion.
Her was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, Robert Logsdon, and a sister, Helen Beverly.
Services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Bill Casey will officiate and burial will be in Westwood cemetery in Shawneetown.
Della (Slaton) Davis
Mrs. Della (Slaton) Davis, 90, of 215 South McKinley St., Harrisburg, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Davis on Jan. 29, 1972. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys McClusky and Beatrice Clark; three brothers, Harry and Quiller Slaton and Chris Cheek, and a sister-in-law, Elva Slaton.
Surviving are a brother, Edmond Slaton of Harrisburg, and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Davis was born on July 18, 1908, in Union County, to the late James and Addie (Annis) Slaton.
Mrs. Davis was a member of Raleigh Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Ralph M. Wooley
Ralph M. Wooley, 87, of Equality, died at 12:19 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
He was born on May 16, 1911, in Equality to the late G.L. and Daisy Maxwell Wooley.
Mr. Wooley retired as a highway maintenance employee with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
On Feb. 15, 1933, he married
the former Elsie McCaughan. She preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1994. Also preceeding him in death were a grandson, Mike Wooley, and four sisters, Hazel Barnett, Thelma Sisk, Ruth Martin and Mary Peronis.
Surviving are a son, Billy Gene Wooley of DaRidder, La.; a granddaughter, Tammy Phillips of DeRidder; two great-grandchildren, Kenny Wooley and Stephen Phillips; three sisters, Beulah Moore and Hazel Wathen, both of Equality, and Dorothy Gross of Pinellas Park, Fla.; two brothers, Lawrence Wooley of Alton, and Raymond Wooley of Gary, Ind.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Equality Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Rev. Ron Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery near Equality.
Friends may call at the Jones Funeral Home in Equality from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Russell N. Goldman
Russell N. Goldman, 90, of 2009 Old Broughton Road, Eldorado, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
He was born on June 26, 1908, in Linton, Ind., son of the late Felix and Emma (Lanham) Goldman.
He married
the former Mary Lena Lamb on Sept. 30, 1926, in Harrisburg. She survives. Also surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Norman L. and JoAnn Goldman of Bloomington; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Goldman of Eldorado; four grandchildren, Diane and husband, Corey Henson, and Kim Goldman of Eldorado, Lee Ann and husband, Michael Sewell of The Woodlands, Texas, Richard N. and wife, Dawn Goldman of Normal; seven great-grandchildren, Allison, Emily and Hannah Henson, Kristin Lee and Ross Sewell, Matthew Russell and Kyle Goldman, a brother, Ralph Goldman, and three sisters, Mary Ellen Hasenmyer, Ruth Mattingly, and Doris Lee of Evansville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald M. Goldman of Eldorado on Feb. 15, 1998, a brother, a sister, and a great-granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth.
Mr. Goldman was a member of Star General Baptist Church, a 50-year member of The Carpenters Union Local 638, Marion, and Masonic Lodge No. 730 A.F. &A.M.; in Eldorado and the Scottish Rite Consistory of Belleville.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home, in Eldorado, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.
