Walter Evitts
Walter Evitts, 79, of Route 1, Simpson, in the Glendale community, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
He was born on March 1, 1918, in Pope County to the late Lewis and Cressie (Jackson) Evitts.
He retired from the Operating Engineers and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 318 at Marion, and a member of Eddyville Lodge No. 672 A.F.&A.M.;
Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Lockaby) Evitts; two daughters, Mrs. Zan (Linda) Fulkerson of and Mrs. Terry (Lida) Gray, all of Rural Route 1, Simpson; a daughter-in-law, LaNell Cannon of Route 3, Harrisburg; and a brother, Curtis Evitts, Rural Route, Simpson; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Evitts, and three brothers, Leo, Joe and Whitnel Evitts.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Glendale Methodist Church. The Rev. Tom Richards and the Rev. John Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville and after noon Friday at the church.
Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
R. B. Oliver
Services for R. B. Oliver, 93, of Norris City, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999 at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice of Eldorado and may be left at the funeral home.
Mary Oma Winders
Mrs. Mary Oma Winders, 83, of Golconda, died at 4:38 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at her home. She married
Ulys Winders on Sept. 5, 1934 in Golconda. He survives. Also surviving are four sons and two daughters-in-law, James and Earlene Winders of Herod and Radford and Diane Winders of Manito, Ricky Winders of Rockford and Curtis Winders of Summerville, S. C.; a daughter, Sue Ludwig; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Zelda Rendleman of Harrisburg, Ina Tite of Ozark, and Faye Roe of Marion.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Mrs. Winders was born on March 22, 1916, in Hardin County to the late James and Lula (Patton) Porter.
She was a member of the Golconda First Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Roy Lee Baker will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Zion cemetery at Cave-in-Rock.
Deloris J. Land
Mrs. Deloris J. Land, 67, of Carmi, died Thursday morning, May 20, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Bunny Kunath of Golconda.
She married
Leonard Land Oct. 25, 1961 and he preceded her in death on March 12, 1994. She was born on Dec. 19, 1931 at Grayville, daughter of Daniel and Emma Walter Jordan.
Mrs. Land had been a unit secretary and nurse's aid at the Hamilton Memorial Care Center in McLeansboro for 15 years. She was a member of the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church at Golconda.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Bunny) Kunath of Golconda; a son, Dale Fairchild of Grayville; three step-daughters, Mrs. Steve (Nancy) Buttry of Norris City, Mrs. David (Sherrill) Wright of Fairfield, Calif. and Mrs. Jerry (Mary Ann) Downen of Freeburg; two step-sons, Leonard and wife, Carolyn Land of Edwardsville, and Charles "Skip" and wife, Katie Land of Fredricksburg, Va.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, James and wife, Goldie Jordan of Charles City, Iowa; four sisters, Beaulah Scott of Grayville, Dorcas McCoy of Irving, Texas, Jeanetta "Jeanne" Stone of Carmi and Annabelle "Annie" and husband, Gene Choquette of Reno, Nev. She was preceded in death by a half brother, Edward Belk.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Stokes Chapel cemetery at Crossville.
Mary Helen Scoggins
Mrs. Mary Helen Scoggins, 83, of McLeansboro, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 1999 in Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1915, in Saline County, to the late Anthon and Elizabeth (Hawes) Hale. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orville Woolard. On Aug. 2, 1974, she married
William Scoggins. He died on Jan. 25, 1998.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in McLeansboro and a former member of Long Branch Church at Hamburg.
Mrs. Scoggins retired as a Registered Nurse after 40 years in nursing. She had worked at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and Farmington State Hospital.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Goldia Hale of McLeansboro; a nephew, Tom and wife, Paulette Hale of Springfield; a niece, Donna and her husband, Wayne Morris of Dahlgren; four great-nieces and nephews: Mark and wife, Maggie Hale of Hoffman Estates, Julie Hale and fiancee, Greg Miller of Chatham; Lyndi Lueke of Percy, and Matt Lueke of Dahlgren; and three great-great nieces, Erin, Katie and Jessie Hale of Hoffman Estates.
A brother, Walter H. Hale preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 1999 at Long Branch Church with Dr. James Baldwin and the Rev. John Denham officiating. Burial will be in Durham cemetery at Hamburg.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro and from 1 p.m. Sunday until service time at Long Branch Church.
Linda Ann Ferguson
Mrs. Linda Ann Ferguson, 53, of 14 Cherry Tree Place, Harrisburg, died at 7 a.m. on January 8, 1997 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Linda was born September 16, 1943 in Detroit, Mich., to the late Frank and Geraldine Kotzmann.
She was employed for 28 years by First National Bank of Harrisburg and Vice President and Loan Officer at the time of her death. In addition to being a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandparent, Linda was a long-time board member of the Saline County Chapter of the American Red Cross, active in Saline County Operation Help and organist for St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Harrisburg. She was an Episcopalian by faith.
Linda is survived by her husband, Charles M. Ferguson; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Watson and Kim; two grandchildren, Jamie Lea Watson and Ryan James Watson; two sisters, Rita Orr of Eldorado and Dee Evearitt of Ada, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lambert Family Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Following a private burial at Sunset Lawn cemetery, a memorial service will be held at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 14 East O'Gara, Harrisburg, at 2 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made in the name of Linda to the St. Stephens Episcopal Church Building Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
Garland C. Ginger
Garland C. Ginger, 80, of 212 South Jackson St., Harrisburg, died at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
He was a physical therapist at Elgin State Hospital for 37 years.
Mr. Ginger was a member of Harrisburg First Presbyterian Church and a 35-year member of Elgin Moose Lodge.
He was born in Hardin County on June 14, 1916 to the late Fred and Mamie McCord Ginger.
He married
the former Lillian Gidcumb on Oct. 10, 1944. She survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Ira (Bonnie) Satterfield of St. James, Mo.; a stepson, Benny Hudnell of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Shawn and Justin Satterfield; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Coburn will officiate. Burial will be in Waters cemetery at Karbers Ridge.
Anthony Funaro
Anthony Funaro, 59, of 309 West McHaney St., Harrisburg died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 in Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired fireman for Patchouge Engine Co. #1 Fire Department in Long Island, N.Y. He was an Air Force veteran.
Mr. Funaro was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 13, 1937, to the late Ralph and Carmella Varrone Funaro.
On June 20, 1959, he married
the former Josephine Cavalier, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Angel Ferrel and Gina Funaro, both of Harrisburg; a son, Anthony Funaro Jr. of Harrisburg; two brothers, Louis Funaro and Frank Funaro, both of California; and three grandchildren, Michael Farrel and Antoinette Funaro and Anthony Funaro III. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Funaro and Peter Funaro.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg, where he was a member. Fr. Jack Stallings will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lambert Family Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Charles E. Murphy
Charles E. Murphy, 62, of Ridgway, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 in St. Mary Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
He was born on July 4, 1934 in Ridgway to the late Willard and Catherine Doerr Murphy.
He was a farm worker.
Surviving are two sisters, Bernice Rider of Ridgway and Shirley Dillard of Eldorado; a brother, George Murphy of Ridgway; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Fr. Ray Englehart will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery.
