Rose M. Nielsen
Mrs. Rose M. Nielson, 84, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home, Eldorado, died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 1996 in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was the widow of Erik Nielsen. Her parents were the late Henry and Carrie Joiner Zinn and she was born on July 26, 1912, in Cave-in-Rock.
Graveside services preceded burial at 11 a.m. Thursday in Sunset Hill cemetery. The Rev. Bill Fox officiated.
Gaskins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Susie Boarman
Mrs. Susie Boarman, 93, widow of Henry Boarman Jr., a resident of Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, died there at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg.
Helen Louise Roberts
Mrs. Helen Louise Roberts, 66, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Eldorado, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1996 at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen, Texas.
She was born in Hamilton County of April 28, 1930, to the late Milton and Alleen Irvin Kane.
She retired as a housekeeper at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Surviving are a son, Steve Roberts of Eldorado; a daughter, Jane Meyers of Mission; three grandchildren, Kane Roberts, Elizabeth Roberts and Justin Meyers; and two sisters, Eleanor Dimmett of Evansville and Betty Vinyard of McAllen.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Fr. Don Abell will officiate and burial will be in Lindale cemetery in Eldorado.
Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Bruce
Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Bruce, 78, former resident of 1211 Walnut St., Eldorado, died at 1:40 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, 1996 at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado. He had been a resident of Eldorado Care Center.
He was born on March 15, 1918, in Eldorado to the late Guy and Clara Pankey Bruce.
On Aug. 2, 1940 in Genevieve, Mo., he married
the former Leda Smith. She preceded him in death on July 29, 1994.
Mr. Bruce was a retired carpenter. He was a non-active deacon at Star Baptist Church in Eldorado.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda and her husband, Chuck Wolven of Baltimore, Md.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Linda Bruce of Jackson, Tenn. and Ben and wife, Debbie Bruce of Memphis, Tenn., and grandchildren, Brian Wolven, Sherry Raymaekers, Craig Bruce, Krista Bruce, Arron Bruce, Kelli Bruce, Katie Bruce and Kari Bruce; five great-grandchildren, Alexanda and Amaury Raymaekers, Rachel Wolven, Joshua Gabriel and Jennifer Gabriel.
Also surviving are three brothers, Bernard Bruce and Troy Bruce, both of Eldorado and Glen Bruce of Chicago; and three sisters, Gertrude Barker of California, Teresa McCauley and Ellen Gau, both of Chicago.
Services will be held at Star General Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Rhine cemetery at Raleigh.
Visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Mary Davis
Mrs. Mary Davis, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at her home 612 Big Four St., inldorado.
She was the widow of E. Joe Davis. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Mrs. Davis was formerly a cook. She was born on Sept. 6, 1905, in Stouts Mountain, Ala., to the late George and Elizabeth Walker.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Janet Davis of Eldorado, and David and wife, Jane Davis of Chester; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Jack Harrison of Eldorado. She is also survived by grandchildren, Josh Davis; Tina Lynn Davison; Dirk, Bob and Beth Tierney; Kevin and Keith Neal, Cheryl Bartok; Dava Uhls; and Donna Joe Davitz; and two special nieces also survive, Anna Gasaway and Nell Fry, both of Eldorado.
Preceeding her in death were a son, William Davis in 1928, five brothers, John, Bill, Robert, George and Jimmy Walker, and three sisters, Jean Fry, Nell Watson and Elizabeth Walker.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Barry Winders will officiate and burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.
Memorials may be made to Star General Baptist Church Building Fund, Eldorado First Baptist Church Building Fund or to the hospice and may be left at the funeral home.
Dorothy Lucille Elam
Dorothy Lucille Elam, 65, a resident of Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in Ferrell Hospital at Eldorado.
She was born on May 24, 1933, in Pope County, to the late Walter and Edith (Fulgham) Elam.
Surviving are two brothers, Ronnie Elam of Harrisburg and Russell Elam of Marion; two sisters, Barbara Barnes and LaVerne Kingston, both of Eldorado; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Joanne Morris.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Harold Williams officiated and burial was in Sunset Lawn cemetery in Harrisburg.
Allene Bebout Taylor
Mrs. Allene Bebout Taylor, 71, of Rural Route 1, Golconda, died at 5:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Pope County at her home.
She married
Jesse Taylor on May 26, 1946. He survives along with two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and David Glover and Wilma and Douglas Hutchinson, all of East Peoria; a sister, Florence Cummins of Golconda; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Pope County, to the late James and Lou (Milligan) Bebout. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Carl Wayne Taylor, and seven brothers.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Dutton Chapel Church.
Services were held Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Dutton Chapel Church. The Rev. Bud Hicks and the Rev. Bob Patton officiated and burial was in Dutton Chapel cemetery.
Visitation was held at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville Sunday night and at the church after 10 a.m. Monday until service time.
Kathryn 'Peggy' Harrelson
Mrs. Kathryn "Peggy" Harrelson, 70, wife of Carroll "Smokey" Harrelson, of Ridgway, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
She was born in Cromwell, Ky. on April 13, 1928, to the late John and Marie (Taylor) O'Neal.
Mrs. Harrelson was a member of the Equality Social Brethren Church.
She married
Mr. Harrelson on May 26, 1954.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Debbie Harrelson Jr. of Ridgway; two daughters and a son-in-law, Hazel and Jerry Potts of Eldorado and Mary Krikie of Sturgis, Ky.; three brothers, Carl O'Neal of Dade, Fla., Ray O'Neal and William O'Neal, both of Ridgway; a half-brother, John O'Neal of Ridgway, a half-sister, Norma Dunk of Junction; a foster daughter, Deane Sisk of Equality and grandchildren Greg and Jimmy Krikie, Gary and Jerry Lee Potts, Amy Young, Chrissy Williams and Tami Baker; and great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dakota, Morgan, Hannah, Casey, Brooke, Cody, Cole, Chase, Stetson, Shelby, and Dusty.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jim Krikie, a brother, Jim O'Neal; a sister, Tilda O'Neal; and a great-grandchild, Chealse.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, where friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Bill Jones will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at Equality.
John L. Ewell
John L. Ewell, 71, of 327 W. Lincoln St., Harrisburg, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at his residence.
He was born on May 24, 1927, in Saline County to the late Bernice and Thelma Charlene (Blades) Ewell.
He was a Sahara Coal miner and a Navy veteran of World War II.
On Jan. 16, 1948, he married
the former Florence Gidcumb. She survives. Other survivors include three brothers, Bill Ewell of Burkburnett, Texas; James and wife, Carol Ewell of Mount Vernon, and Harold Wayne and wife, Karen Ewell of Galatia; two sisters, Dorothy Nell Stricklin of Harrisburg and Shelby Whitlock of Eldorado.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cletus Ewell, and two sisters, Ella Bernice Ewell and Jerri Janice Ewell, preceded him in infancy.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Don Nelson will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery.
