Lawrence R. 'Lonnie' Braddy
Lawrence R. "Lonnie" Braddy, 60, of Calumet City, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998 at 3:37 a.m. in Hammond, Ind.
Mr. Braddy was born in Hartford on Nov. 18, 1937 to William and Pauline (Stevens) Braddy. In October 1959, he married
in Alton the former Barbara Murphy. She survives.
He was a member of the Hammond Moose Lodge.
Mr. Braddy was preceded in death by his father.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his mother, Pauline, of Galatia; a son, Lonnie Braddy of Berwyn; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Lynn and John Baggerly of Rensselaer, Ind., and Susan and Darrin Kooiker of Calumet City, and four grandchildren.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Kenny Stevens, at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia where friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Raleigh Masonic cemetery.
John Edd Alvey
John Edd Alvey, 69, of 1303 S. McKinley St., Harrisburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
On Dec. 29, 1951, he married
the former Genevieve Reynolds. She survives. Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roscoe (Rocky) and Liz Alvey of Harrisburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Larry Stell of Mount Vernon, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jesse, Jerusha and Ethan Alvey; a brother, Royal Alvey of Belleville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Ed Urmanski of Wausau, Wis., Ruthelle and Lawrence Hayden of Sandoval, and Barbara and Bernie Farris of Ridgway; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Saline County to Raymond and Mildred (Payne) Alvey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Ginger Kay Alvey, and a sister, Mildred R. Alvey.
Mr. Alvey was a real estate broker and appraiser. He was a member of Big Ridge Baptist Church, Saline County Mr. and Mrs. Club, a 10-year leader of the Riding Rover 4-H Club, past president of the Saline County Farm Bureau for 12 years, Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Equality, Past Master of the Equality Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies of Illinois and the Ainad Shrine Temple.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg, where friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Kenny Hayden will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Lawn cemetery at Harrisburg.
The Masonic rites will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to Shriner's Children Hospital and may be left at the funeral home.
Zadia Holmes
Mrs. Zadia Holmes, 99, a resident of Carrier Mills Nursing Home, died there at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999.
She was the widow of Cressie Holmes and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1975.
Mrs. Holmes was born on July 25, 1899, in Marion, Ky., to the late Marion and India (Evetts) Mathews. She was a member of the Carrier Mills Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Cleo and Pansy Holmes of Carrier Mills; a granddaughter, Mrs. Richard (Julia) Johnson of Carrier Mills; a step-grandson, Bill Pritle of Lincoln; two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a step-sister-in-law, Ruth L. Rice of Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Iva Pankey, two brothers, Hillis Mathews and Elbert Mathews, and a step-brother, J.A. Rice.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time. The Rev. John Bailey will officiate and burial will be in Salem cemetery near Carrier Mills.
Pearlene Joyner
Mrs. Pearlene Joyner, 82, widow of William Kenneth Joyner, of Cave-in-Rock, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at the Rosiclare Health Care Center.
Surviving are a son, Don Joyner of Cave-in-Rock; a daughter, Kathy Dixon of Metropolis; two brothers, Claude Cullum Jr. of Herrin and Joe Cullum of Pittsburg; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rose-Gilbert Funeral Home in Cave-in-Rock, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Cave Hill cemetery.
Gladys B. Rahm
Mrs. Gladys B. Rahm, 91, of Centralia, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1999 at St. Mary's Hospital. On Sept. 16, 1937, in Paducah, Ky., she married
Elmer Rahm, who died on July 10, 1978.
Mrs. Rahm was born on Jan. 21, 1908, in Carrier Mills, to the late Bert and Della (Allen) Moore.
She had been a resident of Centralia since 1948 and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Joann Rahm of Centralia; two daughters, Marilyn (McNail) Bailey of St. Augustine, Fla. and Dorothy (McNail) Primm of Farragut, Tenn. a brother, Ronald B. Moore of Memphis, Tenn., and four grandchildren, Tracy Rahm, Staci Nicholas, Charles Primm and Nancy Primm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Mary Ann Rogers.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Rev. David Hottenstain will officiate and burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.
Harry W. Collins Sr.
Harry W. Collins Sr., of Linton, Ind., died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999 at the Lyons Convalescent Center.
He was born on June 18, 1909, in Sheridan, Ind., to the late Verle and Vernie (Laramore) Collins. Mr. Collins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linton, the UMWA #9939 of Benton, and the Aemrican Legion Post #22 of Linton.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from Peabody Coal Co's. Will Scarlet Mine in 1976 and the Will Scarlet Mine in Stonefort. He moved to Linton in 1979 from Carrier Mills.
He is survived by two sons, Harry Collins Jr. of Linton and Jim Collins of Harrisburg; a daughter, Greta Hill of Marion; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez (Corbin) Collins on May 5, 1954, his parents, two sons, Bill Collins and Dale Collins, and three brothers, Voyl, Glenn and Fritz Collins.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Welch and Cornett Linton Chapel in Linton with the Pastor Mark Messner officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery in Linton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and after noon on Tuesday.
Bonnie M. Shelton
Mrs. Bonnie M. Shelton, 62, of Broughton, died at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999 at her residence after an illness.
On Sept. 9, 1954, she married
Buddy L. Shelton. He survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Kay Morris of Newburg, Md., Kathy Towle and Kellie Elliott, both of Eldorado, and Bonnie Atkinson of Blairsville; three sons, Ronnie Shelton and Buddy Lee Shelton, both of Broughton, and Billy Shelton of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Atkins of Princeton, Ky., Hazel Gonzalez of Atlanta, Ga., and Nellie Morris of Hyattsville, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was born on Oct. 31, 1936, in Danielboon, Ky. to the late Ardle and Madgelene (South) Brooks. A brother, Lonnie Brooks and two sisters, Anna Lee Brownlee and Brenda Brooks, and two grandchildren, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Norris City, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Bubby Sork will officiate and burial will be in Mount Oval cemetery.
Dempsey Victor Neunlist Jr.
Dempsey Victor Neunlist Jr., 69, of Marion, died at 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999 at the Marion Veterans Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1930, to the late Dempsey Victor and Gladys Neunlist Sr.
Mr. Neunlist was an officer of the American Legion Post 147, Franklin Ave., Marion. He formerly owned Nuenlist Studio of Carbondale for 20 years and later ran the Southern Illinois Photo Finishers of Carbondale and the Photo-Gifts Inc. of Golconda.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Christian D. and Nora Neunlist of Cashion, Okla. and a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki Rae and Woody Patton Jr. of Harrisburg; and grandchildren, Cassandra and Angel Patton, Heather, Brandon and Matthew Neunlist.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home, 800 N. Market St., Marion. The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
A meal will be served for the family before 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Legion Home in Marion.
Brian Matthew Pate
Brian Matthew Pate, 20, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Eldorado, died at 10:53 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, in an auto accident on Old Route 15 near Green Hills Golf Club.
Mr. Pate was a job coach at Comprehensive Services.
He was born Jan. 2, 1979, in Harrisburg to the Rev. Timothy A. and Rebecca A. (York) Pate, who survive.
In addition to his parents, of Greenville; he is survived by brother, T. Alan Pate of Ashley and Christopher R. Pate of Greenville; grandparents, Simeon Pate Jr. of Belleville and Sylvia Maurer of Harrisburg; and an aunt, Pandy (Pate) Minor of Eldorado.
He was preceded in death by grandmother Emily Pate; stepgrandfather, Kenneth Maurer; and his great-grandparents.
Mr. Pate was a member of West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. He was a 1998 graduate of Mount Vernon Township High School, where he participated in track (high jump). He also attended Parkland Junior College at Champaign.
Funeral services were Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, followed by burial at West Salem cemetery in Mount Vernon.
