James and Jymme Murphy
James Murphy, 27, and wife, Jymme Murphy, 28, son and daughter-in-law of Donald and Stella Murphy, were murdered in their home Saturday, June 28, 1997 in Marseilles. Donald Murphy is a former resident of Eldorado.
Jim and Jymme leave three children, Adam, 7, Kelsey, 5, and Taylor, 18 months. James is also survived by his parents, Donald and Stella Murphy; two brothers, Paul Murphy and Donald Murphy of Joliet; and six sisters, Kathleen, Nancy, Laura, Audrey, Annette and Roxanne; numerous nephews and nieces; and his grandmother, Audrey Taylor.
He is also survived by uncles, Glen Murphy of Galatia and Bill Murphy of Joliet; and aunts, Ethel Barton, Helen Kelley, Margaret Mundy and Nell Dolden of Eldorado.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at the Sontag Funeral Home in Joliet.
A trust fund has been established for the Murphy children at the Turn Oaks Savings Bank, 125 West Bluff St., Marseilles, IL 61341.
Leon Cossey
Leon Cossey, 72, of Golconda, died Saturday afternoon, June 28, 1997 at his home.
He was a World War II veteran, and a member of Teamsters Local in Phoenix and the Pope County Golden Circle Seniors Group.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Cossey of Phoenix and Ronald Cossey of Golconda; a sister, Shirley Goba of Swainsboro, N.C.; a stepsister, Helen McDuffee of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a brother, Larry Cossey of Golconda; and a stepbrother, Frank Elam of Peoria.
His wife, the former Faye Broadway, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Aly Funeral Home in Golconda, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in New Liberty cemetery, south of Eddyville.
William Paul Ledbetter
William Paul Ledbetter, 52, of Huntington Beach, Calif., passed away Saturday evening, as a result of a plane crash.
He was born in Hardin County on Dec. 25, 1944, to the late Howard and Viola Brown Ledbetter.
He was employed by General Tel in California and a 1963 graduate of Cave-in-Rock High School.
Surviving are his wife, Jan Ledbetter; and children, Rebekah, Mark, Rachel and John; a sister and brother-in-law, Gertie and Jack Quertermous of Harrisburg and Bob and Norma Ledbetter of Louisville, Ky.. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Laverne Patterson; and a brother in infancy.
Funeral and burial will be in California at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Harold "Lee" Kielhorn Jr.
Services for Harold "Lee" Kielhorn Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at Gaskins Funeral Home, where friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 30.
Lee Kielhorn was born August 2, 1952, a Saturday, at Eldorado, Ill. and departed this earth on June 28, 1997, also a Saturday, in Harrisburg, Ill. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Va. He later attended Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie, of Harrisburg. His father, Harold Kielhorn, preceded him in death on August 29, 1982. Lee is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.
Lee was an artist, specializing in painting landscapes and animals, before being disabled in 1989 with Cystic Fibrosis. He was a Christian by faith and baptized at Liberty Baptist Church and was a member of the Ledford Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Graves, pastor of Ledford Baptist Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Ledford cemetery.
Mildred Schroll
Mrs. Mildred Schroll, 97, of 1000 West Sloan St., Harrisburg, died at 2:43 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 1997 at Harrisburg Medical Center.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg, where visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Further family and details will be announced later from Gaskins.
Charles Ray Seals
Charles Ray Seals, 57, of Dallas, Texas, died Saturday, June 28, 1997.
Arrangements are pending at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Marilyn "Kitty" Lloyd Hutson
Mrs. Marilyn "Kitty" Lloyd Hutson, 50, of 417 North Mill St., Carrier Mills, died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at her home.
She was a teacher for 20 years and presently taught fifth grade at Carrier Mills Middle School.
She was born in Eldorado on Feb. 26, 1947, to Eugene and Naomi Street Lloyd.
Mrs. Hutson was a graduate of Southern Illinois University and was a member of Illinois Teacher's Association and Eldorado First Church of Christ.
Surviving are her mother, Naomi Lloyd of Carrier Mills; a daughter and her fiance, Lonna Kay Hutson and Adrian Clover, of Murphysboro; two sisters, Patricia and husband, Jerry Sweat of Benton and Jennifer Lloyd of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Lloyd and a brother, Terry Lloyd.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. It was Mrs. Hutson's request that services be private. Burial will be in Wolf Creek cemetery at Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, Kitty requested that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the Marilyn Hutson Scholarship Fund and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Carrier Mills Elementary School.
Frankie (Hedger) Zetts
Mrs. Frankie (Hedger) Zetts, 66, of Portsmouth, Va., formerly of Eldorado, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 1997, at the home of a daughter, Laura Backues in Portsmouth.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1931, in Eldorado to the late Avery and Lottie Hedger.
Surviving are two daughters, Laura Backues and Cathy; two sons, David Zetts and Keith Zetts, both of Virginia; a dear friend, George; two sisters, Lodema Lynn of Eldorado and Jessie Fleischer of Chicago; two brothers, J.C. Hedger of Godfrey and William Hedger and her twin brother, Frank Hedger, both of Wood River; seven grandchildren; and three step grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Hedger and David Richard Hedger.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Portsmouth. The Snellings Funeral Home of 5815 High Street West of Portsmouth in charge.
Felsia Cook
Mrs. Felsia Cook, 96, widow of Virgil S. Cook, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton Memorial Nursing Home in McLeansboro.
On Dec. 18, 1922, she and Mr. Cook were married
and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1980.
Her parents were the late George A. and Julia (Oglesby) Miller and she was born on May 26, 1901 in Hamilton County.
She was a member of McLeansboro First Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy M. Cox of McLeansboro; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, George Cook; a son-in-law, Willie Cox; three brothers; one daughter, and a daughter-in-law.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gholson Funeral Home, McLeansboro, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Gary Davenport will officiate and burial will be in IOOF cemetery, McLeansboro.
Tidwell R. Voss
Tidwell R. Voss, 80, of McLeansboro, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1917, in South Pittsburg, Pa., to the late Mead and Susie Tidwell Voss.
He was a retired self-employed taxi service business in McLeansboro for many years and was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Voss was of the Christian Science Faith.
He was married
to the former Veronica Hassett and she preceded him in death. A daughter and his parents also preceded him in death.
Surviving is a sister, Grace Eubank of Decatur, Ala.
Graveside services will precede burial Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Clements cemetery in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating.
There will be no visitation at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
