Eugene "Gene" Berg, 78, Benton, formerly of Waterloo, died Dec. 17, 2014, in Mt. Vernon. He was born Nov. 16, 1936 in Monroe County, the son of the late Edward and Anna (nee Goessling) Berg. Mr. Berg is survived by his wife, Victoria (nee Jatho) Berg; children, Terry (Carol) Berg, Robert (Julie) Berg, Ken (Marilyn) Berg and Linda K. Smith; grandchildren, Thera (Zach) Bond, Stephanie (Jeff) Hughes, Rachel (Joe) Weaver, Chris Berg, Jeff Berg, Edward “E.J.” Berg, Thomas Berg, Brooke Smith and Courtney Smith; and great-grandchildren, Casey Bond, and Shaun and Emma Berg; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Ahnefeld; and brothers, Lawrence Berg and William E. Berg. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Osang Idagbo officiating. Mr. Berg was buried at the church’s cemetery. Steven James Harres, 64, of Columbia, died Dec. 17, 2014 in an automobile accident. He was born July 31, 1950, in Belleville, the son of Harold and Dorothy (nee Schneider) Harres of Columbia. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harres is survived by his children, Matthew (Aggie) Harres of Lombard, Kristin (Owen) Bass of Columba and Sarah (Ken) Lehrmann of Columbia; eight grandchildren, brothers, Mike (Debbie) Harres of Millstadt and Joel (Linda) Harres of Columbia; and a sister, Lisa (Glenn) Stumpf of Columbia. Edna Wetzler, nee Gaitsch, 78, of Red Bud, formerly of Waterloo, died Dec. 20, 2014. She was born Sept. 17, 1936 in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Theodore and Mayme (nee Mennerich) Gaitsch. Mrs. Wetzler is survived by her children, Barbara (Gary) Doerr, Glenn (Gale) Wetzler and Larry (Gina) Wetzler; grandchildren Dr. Ryan (Dr. Elisa) Wetzler, Justin (Sarah) Wetzler, Dr. Nathan (Dr. Debbie) Doerr, Garrett (Holly) Doerr, Andrew (Amanda) Wetzler and Bradley Wetzler (Tiera Losee); great-grandchildren, Mason Wetzler, Logan Wetzler, Ava Wetzler, Cameron Wetzler, Emily Wetzler, Aiden Doerr, Gavin Doerr, Ava Doerr and Mackenzie Doerr; and a sister-in-law, sister-in-law, June Gaitsch; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce L. Geringer, 81 years of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Columbia, died Dec. 21, 2014. She was born Feb. 13, 1933, the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (nee Story) Phillips. Joyce was married to Gilbert L. Geringer. He died in 2004. Mrs. Geringer is survived by her children, James (Joyce) Miller of Florida, Larry (Carol) Dornin of Missouri, Gary (Donna) Dornin of Missouri, Scott (Shannon) Geringer of Waterloo and Debbie (Joe) Shaffman of North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Cochran. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Stephen Miller. Joyce was a longtime Columbia resident. She moved to Panama City Beach, Fla., in 1998, and then to Charlotte, NC in 2007. She was a charter member of Christ Community Church in Columbia, and had been employed for many years at Taake Insurance Co. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with the Rev. Irene J. “Dolly” Centunzi, 80, of Columbia, formerly of Woodson Terrace, Mo., died Dec. 22, 2014, in Collinsville. She was born Sept. 11, 1934, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Augustus and Irene (nee Winterbauer) Centunzi. Ms. Centunzi is survived by her nieces, Rita (Riley) Goodwin, Theresa (Mark) Donovan, John (Vivian) Centunzi, Jr., Martin (Sandra) Centunzi, Wade (Wanda) Creason, Nancy (Jim) Donovan, Michael (Mary) Benz, Debbie (Barry) O'Gorman and Tracy Creason; sister-in-law, Paula Centunzi; half-sisters, Anna Addis and Marie Cave; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great nieces; and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Benz; a brother, John Centunzi; and a nephew, Doug Creason. Dolly attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. William R. Hale, 42, of Waterloo, died Dec. 22, 2014. He was born May 15, 1972 in Belleville, the son of the late Eugene Hale and Mary Darlene Hale. “Philo” is survived by his brother, Robert (Kim Bark) Hale; nieces, Alyssa Hale, Lindsay Bark and Kendra Bark; half-brothers; and cousins. James M. Zoeller, 82, of Columbia, died Dec. 24, 2014, at St. Clare Health Care Center in Fenton, Mo. He was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Columbia, the son of the late Peter and Helen (nee Frierdich) Zoeller. James married Joan (nee Frank) Zoeller in 1952. In addition to his wife, Mr. Zoeller is survived by his son, Michael (Debra) Zoeller of Belleville; a daughter, Kathy (Ken Raede) Zoeller of Columbia; grandchildren, Kara (Aash Desai) Zoeller, Ryan (Bridget) Zoeller and Zachary Zoeller; a great-grandchild, Quinn Zoeller; his sister, Helen Mae Shea of Columbia; and sister-in-law, Rita Zoeller of Columbia. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester Zoeller; and brother-in-law, Leo Shea. Mr. Zoeller attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus - Council 6165. He was a retired construction superintendent from Ethyl Corp. in Sauget. Dennis “Ole” Holle, 72, of Hecker, died Dec. 24, 2014, in St. Louis. He was born May 25, 1942 in Belleville, the son of the late Otto and Dorothy (nee Meyer) Holle. Mr. Holle is survived by his wife, Mary "Margie" (nee Korte) Holle; daughters, Denise (Ned) Guetterman, Dawn (Tom) Hootselle and Michelle (Britain) Ogilvie; grandsons, Neil, Nicholas, Nolan and Nevin Guetterman; T.J. and Alex Hootselle; and Bentley Ogilvie (to be born April 2015); sisters, Carolyn Keim, Dorothy Holle (Al Donn) and Roger (JoAnn) Holle; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Elmer (Carol) Dintelman, Robert Wagner, Doris Chaput, Patricia Stock and Dennis (Llana) Korte; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers. Otto Holle, Jr. and Ralph Holle; and sisters, Margaret Dintelman, Janet Wagner, Audrey Wagner, Coleen Simpson and Charlotte Holle. Mr. Holle was the co-owner of Dennis Auto Sales in New Athens from 1969-2014, and was co-owner of Waterloo Motors from 1982-1997. Dennis enjoyed gardening, taking care of his yard and spending time with his family. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Eleanora E. M. Anderson, nee Garleb, 91, of Valmeyer, died Dec. 13, 2014 in Waterloo. She was born Jan. 23, 1923 in Valmeyer, daughter of the late Hardy and Christine (nee Althoff) Garleb. Mrs. Anderson is survived by step-children, June Newton, Joyce Wilson and Wayne (Kathie) Anderson; and grandchildren, Diana (David) Barmann, Dennis (Sharon) Wilson, Brenda (Bret) Heckenberger, Tim Wilson, Chris Anderson and Katie Anderson; along with great-grandchildren and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry J. Anderson. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Lloyd Irwin "Doc" Moore, 69, of Waterloo, died Dec. 10, 2014 in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Dec. 23, 1944, in Las Vegas, N.M., the son of the late Silas Monroe and Ramona (nee Nieto) Moore. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Lyn Moore; children, Lisa Lawrence, Elliot Moore, Cheryl Moore, Thad (Julianne) Hunter and Courtney Hunter-Brauer (Craig Brauer); grandchildren. Conner, Ella, Isabel, Simon, Cooper, Kampe, Joanscott, Liam and Thaddeus; a sister, Patricia (David) Foster; and a brother, Harold (Glenda) Moore; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother (in infancy), Lloyd Moore. Mr. Moore was retired after 38 years of employment at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center. He worked with spinal cord injured veterans. Mr. Moore was one of the founding fathers of the Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals. Doc was a member of the Waterloo Rotary, Human Support Services (board of directors), Monroe County Care Center (past advisory board member), PVA (past member) and the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation (past member).
