Roy F. Henke, 79, of Waterloo, died Nov. 20, 2014 in Waterloo. He was born Jan. 3, 1935 in Waterloo, the son of the late Theodore and Olga (nee Mueller) Henke. Mr. Henke is survived by his wife, Anola (nee Rehmer) Henke; children, Scott Henke, Lori Morton, Marla (Bob) Byrd and Troy Henke; grandchildren, Erin Polacek, Ted Polacek and Zach (Amanda) Byrd; and foster-grandchild, Cody Hammers; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin and Willis Henke. Mr. Henke attended Concord Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He was retired from the Alton and Southern Railroad. Mr. Henke was an inaugural inductee into the Waterloo High School Sports Hall of Fame. Roy was a member of the 1952 WHS basketball team. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Concord Presbyterian with Pastor Andrew Cheatham officiating. Memorials may be made to his church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Mary E. Diehl, nee Heath, 93, of Waterloo, died Nov. 30, 2014 in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 15, 1921, the daughter of the late William and Linnie (nee Ritch) Heath. Mrs. Diehl is survived by her children, Paul (Barb) Diehl and Nancy (Tony) Dixon; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister Bettye Mitchell; and her sister-in-law Ruthie Frick; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Diehl Jr.; son Larry R. Diehl; and her grandson Johnny Huntley; along with a sister and a brother. Mrs. Diehl attended St. Paul UCC in Waterloo. Visitation and funeral were at St. Paul UCC in Waterloo with Pastor Thelma Burgonio-Watson officiating. Mrs. Diehl was buried at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. Joseph Maul, 72, of Waterloo, died Nov. 21, 2014, in St. Louis. He was born Nov. 19, 1942 in St. Louis, the son of the late Oliver Joseph Maul and Fern Boin. Mr. Maul is survived by his wife, Janet (nee Frieberg) Maul; children, Kenneth Maul (Sonia) and Steve (Tiffany) Maul; a daughter-in-law, Beth Maul; Grandchildren, Jason Maul, Cassandra (Chris) Crase, Andrew Maul (Breanna Schoening), Nichole (Michael) Murphy, Ashley (Marc) Steibel, Robert Maul (Katie Beuton) and Stephanie (Paul) Wynn; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Crase, Elia Crase and Aiden Steibel; along with a sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Maul was a retired chief for the Waterloo Police Department. He was a member of the Waterloo Optimist Club and the Waterloo Police Pension Board. Private family services were held. Herman J. Bellm, 88, of Columbia, died Nov. 19, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born June 18, 1926, in Murphysboro, the son of the late Herman and Etta (nee Phoenix) Bellm. Herm married Kathryn (nee Soper) Bellm in 1952 in Murphysboro. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bellm is survived by his children, Jayne Bellm of Columbia, John (Beverly) J. Bellm of Ava, Mo., Mary Yearian of Waterloo and Carolyn (Kevin) Maxfield of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Bellm; and sisters, Ruby Borgsmiller and Dorothy Cowell. Mr. Bellm served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from Monsanto Chemical in Sauget. Herm was a member of the Columbia Gymnastic Association (Turners), Columbia American Legion Post 581 and Columbia Knights of Columbus Council 6165. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral and burial of ashes were planned for a later date. Victor J. Krueger, 94, of Columbia, died Nov. 18, 2014. He was born Nov. 7, 1920, in St. Louis, the son of the late Otto and Clara (nee Heimburger) Krueger. Victor married Bernice (nee Haenel) Krueger in 1943 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She died in 1966. Mr. Krueger is survived by his special friend, Donna Wilde; her children, Michael (Shawn) Wilde; their daughters, Kendra and Laurie Wilde; his son, Kerry Krueger (Jeanne Cocos) of Columbia; a daughter, Karen (Mark) Woodson of Edina, Minn.; grandchildren, Derek Jones and Nicole (Zach) Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Emma Wilson. Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Oliver C. Krueger; and sisters, Flora Langhorst, and Margaret Zielinski. Mr. Krueger was a Columbia area farmer since 1951. Private graveside services were held. Mr. Krueger was buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation.
Juanita M. Bagsby, nee Martin, 83, of Waterloo, died Nov. 20, 2014 in Columbia. She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Eminence, Mo., the daughter of the late Emery and Edna (nee Honeycutt) Martin. Mrs. Bagsby is survived by her children, Ann (Gerald) Stoeckel and Janet (Larry) Dauphin; grandchildren, Scott Stoeckel, Laura (Shane) LaBeau and Danielle (Brian) Sellers; great-grandchildren, Hunter Sellers and Jaxson LaBeau; and sisters, Hunter Sellers and Jaxson LaBeau; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Matzenbacher (father of her children), Abraham Theobald, Norman Hall and Harold Bagsby. Juanita was a member of Waterloo VFW Auxiliary. Angelika "Gala" Seaton, nee Langhorst, 50, of rural Maeystown, died Nov. 21, 2014. She was born Oct. 24, 1964 in Amarillo, Tex., the daughter of Edward Langhorst and the late Shirley Langhorst. Besides her father, Mrs. Seaton is survived by her husband, Dewayne Seaton; children, Kristen (Jeremy) Long, Ashley Seaton and Brittany (Nick) Huebner; grandchildren Madeline, MacKenzie, Maggie, Masin, Connor, Weston, Brianna, Chase and Drake; a brother, Duane (Michele) Langhorst; sisters, Kim (Lennis) Voelker and Terri (Gary) Hardy; and in-laws Benny and Monika Seaton; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Valerie Langhorst. Mrs. Seaton was a retired executive secretary for the Carpenter District Council of Greater St. Louis. Leone Jung, nee Vogt, 88, of Waterloo, died Nov. 22, 2014, in St. Louis. She was born March 20, 1926, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Louis and Emma (nee Hauptfleisch) Vogt. Mrs. Jung is survived by her children, Sandra Henderson, Victoria (Douglas) Clements, Cynthia (Lee) Peterson, Pamela (Dennis) Hobbs and Lisa Bischof; grandchildren, Dena (Marc) Protenic, Michael Henderson, Andrea Henderson, Heather (Bob) Prokopf, Christian (Melinda) Rusteberg, John Clements, Sarah (Jason) Hamrick, Rebecca and Samantha Peterson, Kirsten (Brian) Westrich, Taylor Cole and Andrew and Libby Bischof; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn (Joe) Sondag; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Jenny Jung and Roger and Ruth Jung; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Jung; a brother, Paul Vogt; sister-in-law, Evelyn Vogt; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lavern and Audrey (nee Jung) Doiron. Mrs. Jung attended SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. She was a former member of the Waterloo Country Club. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at SS. Myrtle Schneider, nee Dotzauer, 91, of Columbia, died Nov. 21, 2014, at Columbia Rehab. and Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie (nee Busch) Dotzauer. Myrtle married Maurice Schneider in 1945 in Columbia. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Schneider is survived by her brother, Earl Dotzauer of Granite City; nieces and nephews, Donald Dotzauer, Dale Dotzauer, Richard Roessler, Roger Roessler, Karen (Terry) Quiren and Pat (Johnny) Jones; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Jim) Bangert; and friends, Herb (Leola) Schueler and Wendy (Bill) Norman. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Susan M. Schneider; a brother, Howard Dotzauer; and her sisters, Hazel Roessler. Mrs. Schneider attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, where she was the past choir director and organist--performing many weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Columbia American Legion Post 581 Auxiliary. Myrtle had retired as an office manager with Brass and Copper Sales Co., in St. Louis. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Vogel, as well as being employed at Monroe National Bank and Luhr Bros., Inc.. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral was at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Theiss officiating. Mrs. Schneider was buried at the church’s cemetery. Donald James Ernst, 70, of Belleville, died Nov. 26, in Belleville. He was born Aug. 26, 1944, in Waterloo, the son of the late Emil Frederick and Dora Elizabeth (nee Seibert) Ernst. Mr. Ernst is survived by his wife, Joyce Ernst nee McClain; half-sisters, Doris Taylor and Gloria McClain; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Janet and Gordon Osterhage, Fern Chlibec and Charles and Delores McClain; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandpa, Henry Seibert; half-brothers, Norman Darnell and Robert Darnell; and his half-sister, Geraldine Darnell. Mr. Ernst served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the Swansea American Legion. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Drew Kramer. Mr. Ernst was buried at St. John UCC Cemetery in Maeystown.
