Charles G. Braun, 89, of Millstadt, died Jan. 20, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born Nov. 29, 1921 in Belleville, the son of the late Charles and Katherine (Hoernis) Braun. Mr. Braun is survived his children, Merry (Daniel) Muckensturm of Sanger, Tex., Charles (Lizabeth) Braun of Bradenton, Fla., and Barbara (Gary) Feazel of Millstadt; a brother, James (Suzanne) Braun of Long Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Daniel (Laurie) Muckensturm, Scott (Amberly) Muckensturm, Ryan (Lori) Muckensturm, Bryan (Cindy) Muckensturm and Ty (Christy) Muckensturm, all of Sanger, Tex., Charles (Christine) Braun of Colorado, James Braun of Bradenton, Fla., and Chad (Sarah) Feazel and Jason (Emily) Feazel, both of Millstadt; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; along with nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Sauer) Braun; and a sister, Lillian Perez. Mr. Braun served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt and was a retired firefighter for the City of Belleville. He was a member of the Illinois Association of Retired Firefighters and the St. Clair Masonic Lodge 24 of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 23, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt. Funeral is Monday, Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt with Monsignor Marvin Volk officiating. There will be a private burial. Mary Elizabeth Wolf, nee Price, 81 of Dupo, died Jan. 21, 2011 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. She was born Feb. 19, 1929 in East Carondelet, the daughter of the late George and Cora Elizabeth (nee Wheatley) Price. Wolf is survived by her sons Steven (Debbie) Wolf of Waterloo, Michael Wolf of Austin, Tex., and Wayne (Vickie) Wolf of East Carondelet; a daughter, Judy (Dean) Riefle of Dupo; grandchildren Jeffrey Wolf, Mark Wolf, Kelly Williams, Andrew Wolf, Audrey Wolf, Keith and Adam Wolf, and Derek, Daniel and Jason Riefle; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, James Price, and sisters Quintella Ross and Kathleen Marchwinski; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Wolf; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Wolf; brothers Robert and George Price; and a sister, Elsie Stafford. Mary was a home maker and a member of First Baptist Church in East Carondelet. She had taught Sunday school at the church for 52 years. Celestine M. Nobbe, nee Meyer, 95, of Waterloo, died Jan. 21, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born March 5, 1915 in Valmeyer, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (nee Miller) Meyer. Mrs. Nobbe is survived by her children, Esther (Wayne) Straub and Allen (Fronda) Nobbe; grandchildren Joni (Bryan) West, Rick (Lisa) Straub, Jim Straub, Susan (Dan) Henry, Dawn (Jeff) Woodall, Teena (Greg) Stanek and Mindi Nobbe; and 20 great-grandchildren; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Nobbe; along with brothers and sisters. Mrs. Nobbe volunteered at the Monroe County Nursing Home, was a member of the Waterloo Senior Citizens and attended St. Paul UCC of Waterloo. Olivia G. “Cissy” (Mosbacher) Rains, 91, of Dupo, died Jan. 23. 2011, at Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia. She was born May 6, 1919, in East St. Louis, daughter of the late William and Delia (Colvin) Mosbacher. She was married to James E. Rains. He died in 2002. Mrs. Rains is survived by her son, Larry V. Krack of Dupo; grandchildren, James Krack, Catherine Krack and Bret (Debbie) Strobo; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Mearlene) Rains of Russellville, Ark.; and sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Sutter of Columbia and Dorothy Krack of Columbia. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Krack; sisters, Bertha Sauget and Mary Avett; brothers Charles, Billy and Elroy Mosbacher; and brother-in-law, Robert (Jacquie) Rains. Elfrieda M. "Ellie" Meyer, nee Ohlau, 72, of Waterloo, died Jan. 23, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born Jan. 12, 1939, in Steeleville, the daughter of the late Arnold and Alwine (nee Meierhoff) Ohlau. Mrs. Meyer is survived by husband, Arthur "Art" Meyer; children, Jane Schaefer and Gene (Angela) Meyer; grandchildren, Jamie (Michael) Dugger, Josh Schaefer, Kendra Meyer, Kirstin Meyer and Wesley Meyer; great-grandchildren Addison and Ashton Dugger; a brother, Melvin Ohlau; and sister, Bernice Stromeyer; along with sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Ohlau; and a sister, Evelyn Knop. Mrs. Meyer was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Ruth Aileen Moore, nee Frazer, 74, of Wood River, formerly of Fairview Heights died Jan. 22, 2011 at her residence. She was born Sept. 4, 1936 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of the late Wayne and Ruth (nee Lipscomb) Frazer. Mrs. Moore is survived by her husband of 57 ½ years, Milton G. Moore; her children, Debbie A. (Mike) Byrd of Collinsville, Pam S. Moore of Wood River, Kathy F. (Bill) Coffman of Wood River and Angie L. Miller of Lisle; grandchildren Wendi (Carlos) Munguia, Jacob Casper, Shane (Kara) Gentry, Brandon (Shannon) Gentry, Billy Coffman, Zac (Heather) Coffman, Daniel Coffman, Tim (Christy) Moore and Heather Miller; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Alex and Noah Munguia, Madison and Grace Gentry and Harlie Coffman; sisters, Barbara (George) Doerr of Waterloo, Rita Wilson of O’Fallon and Sharyn (Clarence) Klostermann of New Baden; and sister-in-law, Loretta Gibson of Fairview Heights; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Daniel Boone Kostelac, 83, of Millstadt, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 in Swansea. He was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of the late John and Manda (nee Tomic) Kostelac. Mr. Kostelac is survived by his brothers, Nick and Stanley Kostelac; along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings, Michael Sr., John Sr., Steve, Frank, Rosemary, Mary and Joe. Mr. Kostelac was a farmer and co-owner of Ace Grease Service. Visitation was at Creason Funeral Home in Millstadt. A graveside service was at Valhalla Garden of Memory in Belleville.
Orlou H. Noelken, 101, of Waterloo, died Jan. 26, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born June 17, 1909 in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Henry and Emma (nee Roekenschuh) Noelken. Ms. Noelken is survived by her sister, Dorothy Smith; sisters-in-law Sally Smith and Ivy Noelken. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charlie, Ronald and Ben Noelken; and a sister, Tina Mosbacher. Visitation is Saturday, Jan. 29, at 9 a.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Suzie H. Aycock, nee Huebner, 48, of Waterloo, died Feb. 3, 2011 in Waterloo after battling cancer. She was born Dec. 16, 1962 in Red Bud, the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (nee Bachelier) Huebner. Mrs. Aycock is survived by her husband, Dale Aycock; children, Brittney Aycock and Robert Aycock; brother, Derrick (Stacie) Huebner; sister, Chris Hansell; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Gloria Aycock; along with aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Suzie was a member of Waterloo Chamber of Commerce, volunteered Monroe County Museum, the Bunco Group and Zoar UCC of New Hanover. She loved painting, flower gardens and the outdoors. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral followed with Pastor R.J. Morgan officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Virginia E. Offermann, 89 of Highland, died Feb. 3, 2011 at Highland Health Care Center. She was born on Saturday, Dec. 31, 1921, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Julius and Marguerite (nee Jehling) Weltig. She married Edwin Offermann in 1962. He died in 1981. Mrs. Offermann is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great- nieces, great-great-nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Weltig, who died at the age of 42. Virginia was born in Waterloo and attended grade school in the town. The family then moved to Columbia where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1940. She was employed at Weilbacher Department Store in Columbia for 25 years before moving to Florida in 1965. Mrs. Offermann lived in Mt. Dora, Tavares and Leesburg, Fla. She worked at Ivey’s in Orlando, Fla., before moving to Highland in 2002. Virginia was a former member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, St. Paul UCC of Columbia and the United Church of Christ in Tavares, Fla. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A graveside service will held at a later date. Mrs. Offermann will be buried at the Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia.
