Patricia J. (Crawford) Range, 82, of Columbia, died March 6, 2011. She was born June 30, 1928, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Joseph and Thelma (Toler) Crawford. She married Joseph F. Range in 1946 in Cahokia. He died in 2009. Mrs. Range is survived by her children, Joseph (Joyce) Range of Jonesboro, Ark., Victoria Vogt of Vandalia, Terry (Sharon) Range of Waterloo, James (Penny) Range of Rock Wall, Tex., Jamie (Kevin) Andres of Bonne Terre, Mo., and Joan (Brian) Stemler of Columbia; and a brother, Kenneth Crawford of Columbia; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She preceded in death by a son, David Range. Mrs. Range attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia. Visitation is Wednesday, March 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Thursday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Columbia with Father Carl Scherrer officiating. Mrs. Range will be buried at the church’s cemetery. Helen M. Glaenzer, 89, of Columbia, died March 6, 2011. She was born Jan. 7, 1922, the daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Dotzauer) Glaenzer. Mrs. Glaenzer is survived by nieces and nephews, Larry (Cindy) Glaenzer of Belleville, Richard (Traci) Glaenzer of Columbia, Robert (Jan) Glaenzer of Columbia and Hank (Marsha) Glaenzer of Millstadt; great-nieces and great-nephews, Katelyn, Bryan, Toni, Jason, Danny, Ian, Conor, Morgan, Erin and Reid Glaenzer; and great-great-nephew, Waylon Glaenzer. She was preceded in death by brothers Freddy, Clarence and Arthur Glaenzer, and sisters-in-law Norma Glaenzer and Vivian Stubbs. Helen had retired from Weilbacher's Inc. in downtown Columbia and attended St. Paul UCC of Columbia. Visitation is Tuesday, March 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. Raymond C. Shoptaw, 82, of Waterloo, died March 7, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born July 24, 1924 in Bengal, Okla., the daughter of the late the late Clyde and Rosa (nee Kuykendall) Shoptaw. Mr. Shoptaw is survived by his children Alan Shoptaw (special friend Jeanie Brooks), Becky "DeDe" Snell (special friend Bill Schaefer) and Susan (Thomas) Schmitt; grandchildren Angela M. Rigdon, Hugh B. Snell Jr., Brian T. Schmitt (special friend Janese Valentine) and Jennifer (Tyson) Phillips; great-grandchildren Ezra, Dalton, Kaitlyn, Sophia, Olivia, Blane and Nolan; special friend, Dakota Valentine; sister, Barbara Schroeder; sisters-in-law Verna Shields and Karen Travis; and brothers-in-law Larry and Barb Travis, Donald "Red" Humphreys and Marshall "Sonny" Hoots; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, wife Zilka (nee Martin) Shoptaw; and sisters Mildred Humphreys and Charlotte Hoots. Mr. Shoptaw was an Air Force veteran who served as a corporal in the 3310th Assembly Squadron. He retired from Granite City Steel and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 633. Doris P. Ludwig, nee Schellhardt, 85, of Waterloo, died March 8, 2011. She was born July 5, 1025 in Valmeyer, the daughter of the Albert Sr. and Theodora (nee Laub) Schellhardt. Mrs. Ludwig is survived by her husband, Howard Ludwig; a son, Mark (Vicky) Ludwig; grandchildren Jason (Amy) Ludwig and Tiffany (Luke) Wessler; and grand-dog, Emma; along with sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister, Ida Mae Weiss; brother, Albert "Manny" Schellhardt; and Maurice Schellhardt. Helen attended St. Paul UCC in Waterloo and was an active member of the Waterloo Country Club. Frances Kay Guy, nee Creekpaum, 77, of Waterloo, died March 8, 2011 in Waterloo. She was born July 3, 1933 in Verennes, the son of the late Theodore and Genevieve (nee Miller) Creekpaum. Mrs. Guy is survived by her children, Connie L. (Ronald) Sickels, Daniel L. (Ruth) Guy and Carol Guy; sisters, Betty Powers and Doris McBride; and a brother, Charles (Tessie) Creekpaum; along with six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunt and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer L. Guy; a son at birth, Rodney Guy; brothers Bob, Richard and Don Creekpaum; and a sister, Judy Bushong. Mrs. Guy was a lifelong resident of Cahokia who retired from Cooper Industries (Bussman Fuses) in St. Louis. She volunteered at the gift stores at the Missouri Botanical Garden and Memorial Hospital. A graveside service was held at the Ava City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Quernheim Funeral home handled the arrangements.
Roland A. Goeddel, 80, of Waterloo, died March 9, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born Oct. 31, 1930 in Hecker, the son of the late William and Alma (nee Kammler) Goeddel. Mr. Goeddel is survived by his wife, Marion (nee Goss) Goeddel (nee Goss); daughter, Cynthia Matzen; and grandson, William Matzen; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother- and sister-in-law, Willis (Elva) Goeddel; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Rosella (Alvin) Veilweber and Wilma (Melvin) Hoffmann. Mr. Goeddel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Laborers Union Local 196 and loved the outdoors, especially hunting. Visitation is Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral will immediately follow at the funeral home with Pastor Dick Sparrow officiating. Yvonne Lee Huebner, nee Chilton, 70, of Waterloo, died March 9, 2011 in St. Louis. She was born July 3, 1940, the daughter of the late Woodward Earl and Virginia Bell (nee Lee) Chilton. She is survived by her husband, Gene Huebner; children Julie (Dylane) Doerr, Becky (Ed) Buckley, Jenny (Drew) Denison, Eugene P. Huebner and Jessica (Travis) Ezzell; grandchildren Elisha, Dustin, Gwen, Megan, Melissa, Lacey, Triston, Logan, Emily, Ben and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Jack and Nolan; and a sister, Mary Kay (Steve) Gabel. She was preceded in death by her sons Jesse, Charles and Ben Huebner; and a brother, Dick Chilton. She was raised in Eminence, Mo., before moving to rural Waterloo. She was known for her welcoming arms and homemade apple pies. Visitation is Friday, March 11, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. John G. Offermann, 84, of Columbia, died March 16, 2011. He was born, March 23, 1926, the son of the late John D. and Katherina (nee Wild) Offermann. Mr. Offermann is survived by his wife, Mabel Offermann; children, Betty (David) Gummersheimer, Annette (Stephen) Hammett and Sandy (Mike) Brennan; step-sons, Michael (Corrine) Sondag, Daniel (Patsy) Sondag and Kenneth Sondag; grandchildren, Corey and Sara Gummersheimer, Jerad and Kelly Hammett, Erin, Lauren and Anne Brennen, Tyler and Noah Sondag, Katie, Nick and Grant Sondag, Stephanie (Bruce) Shields and Garrett Kohnz; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Vera Rippelmeyer and Hilda Scheibe; along with nieces nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Offermann; along with sisters and brothers. Mr. Offermann attended St. John UCC in Valmeyer. William “Bill” Joseph Gipson, 37, of Waterloo, died March 24, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 17, 1974 in Princeton. Bill married Larissa Ohms in 2009. In addition to his wife, Mr. Gipson is survived by his mother, Brenda (Henry) Homrighausen of Red Bud; a daughter, Lauren Gipson of Waterloo; siblings Shawn (Amanda) Gipso of Jefferson City, Mo., Angela Jean (Don) Lepre of Bozrah, Conn., Jonathan Homrighausen of Red Bud, Cody Homrighausen of Red Bud and Owlen Reeves of Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-sister, Nichole Gipson of Ironton, Mo.; and in-laws, Charles and Alice Ohms; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Owlen Gipson. Bill was a farmer who enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting with the Randolph County Coon Club. Visitation is Sunday, March 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud. A memorial service will immediately follow with Father Ben Stern officiating. According to his wishes, Mr. Gipson’s body was cremated.
