Helen Miller
99 year old Columbia, South Carolina resident, Helen Miller, died December 11th, 2002 at her home. She was a retired teacher and principal from the Benton and Ewing, Il. area.
Surviving are three sons, Ken of Fairfield, John of Columbia, South Carolina and David of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and a sister, Annabell Houk of Luddington, MIchigan.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21st at the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Macedonia.
Visitation was one hour prior to the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Bertha Wagers
78-year-old McLeansboro resident, Bertha Wagers, died at 1:18 Friday morning, Dec. 20, 2002 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are 2 sons, Marvin W. Wagers of McLeansboro and Billy Ray Wagers of Ormond Beach, Florida; 2 daughters, Mrs. Marietta Harris and Mrs. Wanda Martin both of McLeansboro; a brother, Hubert Hooker of Manchester, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22nd at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial in IOOF Cemetery at McLeansboro.
Visitation was from 5-8 Saturday evening, Dec. 21st at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Beverly Ann Wiggins
66-year-old McLeansboro resident, Beverly Ann Wiggins died at 10:22 Thursday evening, Dec. 18, 2002 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She had been a school bus driver.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence of McLeansboro, David Lee of Macedonia, and Douglas of Dahlgren; a daughter, Vicky Lynn Hughes of McLeansboro, a sister, Dorene Tucker of Moab Utah, and 12 grandchildren.
Services for Beverly Ann Wiggins were at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with burial in Old Springer Cemetery at McLeansboro.
Visitation was from 6 until 8 Friday evening at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Lowell "Pat" Patterson
76-year-old Wayne City resident, Lowell "Pat" Patterson died at 2 a.M. Wednesday morning, Dec. 18, 2002 at Sarah Bush Health Care in Mattoon. A veteran of WW II, he was retired from General Electric.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, sons, Robert of Middleburgh, Fla., and Steve of Mattoon, step-sons, James Grant Smith of Wayne City and John Smith of Murphysboro, Tn., a daughter, Jane Washburn of Tyler, Tx., and a step-daughter, Janet Johnson of Wayne City; a brother, Joe Patterson of Rochelle, Il.., five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Services for Lowell Patterson were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Archie L. Sanders Memorial Chapel in Wayne City with burial in Thomason Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5 til 8 Friday evening, Dec. 20, at the Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon and from 11 a.m. til 1 p.m. at the Archie L. Sanders Chapel.
The Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City was in charge of all the arrangements.

Olive M. Smith
83-year-old rural Johnsonville resident, Olive M. Smith died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18th, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Her surivors include four sons, Charles Wendle of Louisville, FL, Vernon Windle of Wayne City, John T. Windle of Johnsville, IL and Jack Windle of Kinmundy, IL; three daughters, Sarah Farmer of Fairfield, Fern Burkett of Baton Rouge, LA and Ruth Rose of Olney; two brothers, Elmer Ray Garris Jr. of Mt. Carmel and Marshall Garris of Quilcene, Washington. Two sisters, Ilene Brent of Mt. Carmel and Clara Belle King of Wheaton, IL, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild also survive.
Funeral services for Olive M. Smith were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial at Union Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20th at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Halle J. Kidd
Infant Halle J. Kidd, 6 1/2 month old daughter of Jenna King and Brad Kidd of Wayne City, died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, December 19th, 2002 at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.
Surviving are her parents, Jenna King and Brad Kidd of Wayne City; a sister, Quinn Kidd of Wayne City; maternal grandfather, Eddie King of Fairfield; maternal grandmother, Jane King of Wayne City; paternal grandfather, Gene Kidd of Iuka; maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Doris King of Wayne City; and paternal great-grandmother, Betty Kidd of Ina.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, December 23rd at the Archie Sanders Memorial Chapel at Thomason Cemetery. Burial in Thomason Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, December 22nd at the York Funeral Home in Wayne City, and from 10 a.m. Monday, December 23rd until the time of service at the Archie Sanders Memorial Chapel in Thomason Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Halle J. Kidd may be made to the American Heart Association-Pediatric Research or Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis, and will be accepted at the York Funeral Home in Wayne City.

John F. Moore
79 year old McLeansboro resident, John F. Moore, died at 4 p.m. Friday, December 20th, 2002 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Surviving are his wife Joyce; 2 daughters, Terri Stubblefield of McLeansboro and Becky Hoover of Pittsfield, Il; 2 sisters, Mary Mitchell of Vandalia, Missouri and Barbara Holeman of Springfield; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, December 23rd at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial in the IOOF Cemetery at McLenasboro.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. Monday, December 23rd until the time of service at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.

Lucille C. Gershenson
91 year old Fairfield resident, Lucille C. Gershenson, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, December 22nd, 2002 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was the widow of long-time Fairfield physician, Dr. David A. Gershenson.
Surviving are 2 sons, Stephen Gershenson of Fairfield and Dr. David M. Gershenson of Houston, Texas; 2 sisters, Pauline Saunders and Juanita Foote both of Carmi; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Cunningham of Carmi; and 3 grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday, December 23rd at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield.
Visitation was from noon Monday, December 23rd until the time of service at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mabel Louise Lynn
81-year-old Clay City resident, Mabel Louise Lynn died at 2:15 Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2002 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, Guilford; sons, Ray of Noble and Leroy of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Ruth Ann Lusk of Ashmore, Il., and Charlene Henderson of Clay City; a sister, Wilma Hosselton of Clay City; a brother Clifford Pierce of Clay City; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mabel Louise Lynn were at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at the Clay City First Baptist Church with burial in the Clay City Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6 til 8 Thursday evening, Dec. 19, at the Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Clay City and from 10 til 11 Friday morning at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Clay City First Baptist Church or the Hospice of Southeastern Illinois.

Charles W. Heflin
90-year-old Fairfield resident, Charles W. Heflin died at 8:55 Tuesday morning, Dec. 17, 2002 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. He had been a laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Florene of Fairfield, and a brother-in-law, John Keiser of Olney.
Services for Charles W. Heflin were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial in Koontz Cemetery south of Fairfield.
Visitation was from 6 til 8 Thursday evening, Dec. 19, at Nales Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Otis Griggs, Jr.
80-year-old Rt. 1 Mount Erie resident, Otis (Jay) Griggs, Jr. died at 10:10 Monday evening, Dec. 16, 2002 at his home. He was a retired U.S. Navy Lieutenant, and had operated a machine shop at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann, two daughters, Diedra Deane Koskie of Huntingtown, MD, and Weslie Rae Eriksson of Knivsta, Sweden; two step-sons, Kelly Atwood of Mt. Erie, and Martin Atwood of Noble; two sisters, Bettie Raymond of Suyn City West, AZ, and Donna Powless of Kinmundy; two brothers, Richard Griggs of DeFunioak Springs, Fla., and Robert Griggs of Salem; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Otis Griggs, Jr. were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Elm River Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Mount Erie with burial in the Travers Cemetery near Mount Erie with full military rites.
Visitation was from noon Thursday, Dec. 19, until the time of service at the Brown Church in Mount Erie.
The Hosselton Funeral Home of Cisne was in charge of all the arrangements.
