Angela Lucille Leifeld, nee Ohms, 41, of Waterloo, died May 14, 2011 following an extended illness. She was born Nov. 18, 1969, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Bill and Lucille Ohms of Waterloo. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Leifeld is survived by her husband, Robert Leifeld Jr.; children, twins Mitchell and Spencer, Evan and Madeline; siblings Collin (Cherry) Ohms, Justin (Stephanie) Ohms, Katie Huch, Margaret Ohms, Sherman Ohms and Jonathan Ohms; father-in-law, Robert (Linda) Leifeld; mother-in-law, Karen Leifeld; and sister-in-law, Cherie Luter; along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Ohms; and her grandparents. Mrs. Leifeld was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Renault. She was a teacher for 16 years in the Waterloo School District and was a Cub Scout den leader for five years. Visitation is Friday, May 20, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral is Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo. Mrs. Leifeld will be buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Carl B. Monroe, 59, of Waterloo, died May 14, 2011 in Waterloo. He was born July 22, 1951, in Belleville, the son of the late Carl and Rita (nee Jarvis) Monroe. Mr. Monroe is survived by his wife, Sandra (Wooley) Monroe; children, Mary (Rick) Eaton and Susan (Scott) Monroe; granddaughter, Alyssa Eaton; a brother, Don (Pam) Monroe; nephew, Chris Monroe; and niece, Kelli Monroe; along with other nieces, nephews and his cat Pooh. Mr. Monroe worked as a machinist at Mike's Inc. in South Roxana. Carl enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing, bowling, stock car racing and spending time with his family and friends. Frank W. Krueger, 87, of Edina, Mo., died May 18, 2011, at Knox County Nursing Home in Edina. He was born July 16, 1923, in Edina, the son of the late Harry and Cecilia Dolan Krueger. He married Phyllis Delaney in 1948 in Chicago. In addition to his wife, Mr. Krueger is survived by his children, Mark (Joetta) Krueger of Kirksville, Mo., Denise (Rod) Yuskis of Warsaw, Kirk (Nancy) Krueger of Dallas, Tex., Kyle (Jim) Clark of Edina, Brad (Becky) Krueger of Waterloo and Kem (Janelle) Krueger of Laramie, Wyo.; 19 nineteen grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Krueger of Arnold, Mo.; and several cousins, including Kay Daniels of Kirksville, Mo.; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle who raised him, Elizabeth and John Fisher; and brothers, Harold, Raymond and Lawrence Krueger. Mr. Krueger graduated in 1942 from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Edina. He was employed 13 years with the Edina Post Office. He then entered a business partnership with Dr. T.D. O’Brien at Edina Feed and Livestock Company and Knox County Soil Service Fertilizer Company until his retirement. Frank went back to work as a furniture repairman at Kelly Furniture in Kirksville, Mo., until his second retirement in 2007. Mr. Krueger attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He had volunteered at the Edina Volunteer Fire Department and was active in several civic organizations, including the town’s Chamber of Commerce. Visitation is Friday, May 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina. Funeral mass is Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joseph Hoi and Deacon Ken Berry officiating. His grandson will be the casket bearers. Honorary bearers will be the staff of Knox County Nursing Home. After the services, his body will be cremated and buried at the church’s cemetery. Memorials may be made to his church, the Knox County Nursing Home or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
Nellie (Waterman) Volner, 86, of Saint Louis, Mo., died May 19, 2011 at de Greeff Hospice House in St. Louis. She was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Miller City, the daughter of the late Miles and Ada Venus (Morningstar) Waterman. Mrs. Volner is survived by her husband, Carol Ray Volner; a daughter, Venus Ann Wolff of Columbia; sister, Rhea Lee Sanford of Canyon, Tex.; brother, Harley Joe Waterman of Fairview Heights; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. Wright Sr.; daughter, Linda Fay Carle; son, William R. Wright Jr.; sisters Estella Davenport, Martha Claira Callis and Anna Mae Wright; brothers, Thomas Earl Waterman, Miles Arley Waterman, Ernest Reed Waterman and Louis Roe Waterman. Nellie attended Evangelical Full Gospel Assembly Church in St. Louis. She loved to play Bridge with her friends. Visitation is Monday, May 23, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Tuesday, May 24, at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Full Gospel Assembly Church with Brother Ron Garascia officiating. Mrs. Volner will be buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Kenyon Roger “Ken” Hacker, 79, of Columbia, died May 19, 2011. Mr. Hacker is survived by his wife, Jo (nee LaBerta) Hacker; children Debbie (Buck) Dayton of Fenton, Mo.; and Kim (Tom) Soltysiak of Columbia; grandchildren Thomas Kilcullen, Laura (Greg) Knowlton and Jennifer (Chad) Rosenthal; great-grandchildren Logan Kilcullen, Alex and Laurel Rosenthal, and Jacob and Jarret Knowlton. Visitation was at the Columbia home of his daughter Kim Soltysiak. A private burial was held. Arrangements were handled by the Schrader Funeral Home. Brian J. Bequette, 53, of Columbia, Md., formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 16, 2014 in Takoma Park, Md. He was born Dec. 16, 1960, in Red Bud, the son of LaVerne (Lyle) Hoffmann and the late Gerald Bequette. Besides his mother, Mr. Bequette is survived by his sisters, Glenda Bequette and Lori (Matthew) Murphy; and a nephew, Benjamin Murphy; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Ida (nee Roth) Rueck, and Nelson Viola (nee Gummersheimer) Bequette. Mr. Bequette was a professor at the University of Maryland. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral was at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Roger Karban officiating. Mr. Bequette was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Helen K. Meillier, nee Ragland, 91, of Waterloo, died Sept. 18, 2014. She was born Jan. 13, 1923, in West Frankfort, the daughter of the late Elza Berton and Ada (nee Badgley) Ragland. There were no services. Quernheim Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Marie J. Poole, nee Chaudet, 80, of Columbia, died Sept. 23, 2014. She was born July 29, 1934, in Cahokia, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Anna (nee Vogt) Chaudet. Marie married Robert Poole in 1951 in Cahokia. He died in 2010. Mrs. Poole is survived by her children, Becky (Charlie House) Hays of Columbia, Cheryl (Dee) Needham of Collinsville, Traci (Tim Mertens) Butz of Millstadt, Brian (Kim) Poole of Columbia and Scott (Lisa Conner) Poole of Granite City; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Dave) Touchette of Columbia; and her dogs, Toby and Tyson. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-infancy, Robert Poole Jr.; a sister, Shirley Gregory; and a brother, Donald Chaudet. Visitation and funeral were at Lawlor Funeral Home with Fr. Marvin Volk officiating. Mrs. Poole was buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Ralph Ervin Ollenberger, 78, of Columbia, died Dec. 13, 2013 at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Home in Edwardsville. He was born Nov. 7, 1935 in El Dorado, Kan., the son of the late Ervin and Helen (nee Kinney) Ollenberger. Mr. Ollenberger is survived by his wife, Naomi Ollenberger; sons Jack Ollenberger of Waterloo and Nick (Kristin Eagleston) Ollenberger of St. Charles; daughter, Mandi (Josh Lang) Ollenberger of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Jonathan) Wolf of St. Louis; and brother-in-law, Cliff (Trudy) Compton of Sacramento, Calif.; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy, David and Gary Ollenberger. Mr. Ollenberger served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW. Ralph was a retired salesman for Skelly Oil Company in Dallas, Tex. Visitation is Thursday, Dec. 19, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral is Friday, Dec. 20, at 12 noon at the funeral home with Father Carl Scherrer officiating. Mr. Ollenberger will be buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Harvey L. Vanier, 89, of Versailles, Ky., died Dec. 1, 2013. He was born April 2, 1924 in Diller, Neb., the son of the late Lawrence Earl and Marie (nee Weier) Vanier. Mr. Vanier is survived by his wife, Nancy (nee Aitken) Vanier; daughters, Lyda (Brian) Vanier Williamson and Jenny (Frank) Vanier Allen; grandsons, Brian Harvey Williamson, Samuel Lewis Williamson, Will Louis Allen and Luke Harvey Allen. He was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Lawrence Vanier, Jr. Mr. Vanier served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He trained thoroughbreds in for 60 years, having farms in both Kentucky and Waterloo. His horses won The Bluegrass (two times) and the Travers Stakes. Horses Admiral Shield, Play Fellow and Western Playboy ran in to the Kentucky Derby . Mr. Vanier was also an eight-time leading trainer at Arlington Park and once at Keeneland. Visitation and funeral were at Quernheim Funeral Home with Pastor Thelma Burgonio-Watson officiating. Mr. Vanier was buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.
