Robert L. Schade, 77, of St. Louis, died Dec. 27, 2006, in St. Louis. He was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Belleville, the son of the late Herman and Bessie Schade nee Hollman. He was married to the late Bernice Schade. Mr. Schade is survived by his brothers Daniel (Jean) Schade of Buffalo Grove and Thomas Schade of Waterloo; brother-in-law Robert Haentzler of Belleville; three nieces; one nephew; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin sister Betty Haentzler, and nephew Martin Schade. Mr. Schade was retired from the Teamsters of St. Louis. He was a 1948 graduate of Belleville Township High School, and he remained a loyal football and basketball fan for many years. There was no visitation or funeral.

Melanie L. Young nee Prasuhn, 50, of Columbia, died Dec. 27, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born March 8, 1956, in Centralia, the daughter of Nick and Mildred Prasuhn nee McFarland of Greenville. She married Dan Young in 1978. Mrs. Young is survived by her parents; husband; daughter Traci Young of St. Charles, Mo.; father- and mother-in-law Vernice and Janet Young of Salem; and other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Young was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where she was active with the choir. She had worked as a secretary at Union Planters Bank in Belleville. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Columbia, Mark Warnock officiating. She is interred at Paradise Cemetery in Salem. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbia, the American Cancer Society or deGreef Hospice House.

Kenneth L. Duffy, 77, of Waterloo, died Dec. 28, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Valmeyer, the son of the late Frank and Hilda Duffy nee Rubemeyer. He was married to Jean Duffy nee Zec. Mr. Duffy is survived by his wife; children Michael (Sherry) Duffy of Waterloo, and Sue (Skip) Greenfield of Waterloo; grandchildren Sherri (Ross) Goessling, Laura (Tim) Bode, Mark Fortman, and Ryan (Melinda) Duffy; great-grandchildren Megan, Lucas, Austin, Haley, Riley and Cameron; and brother Frank Duffy Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, brothers and nephew. Visitation and funeral services were at Quernheim Funeral Home. He is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville.

Dennis Troy Keys, 52, of Dupo, died Dec. 28, 2006, in St. Louis. He was born Feb. 2, 1954, in East St. Louis, the son of Emma Keys and the late Everett Keys. He was married to Lorri Keys nee Foutch. Mr. Keys is survived by his mother; wife; children Dennis Keys II of Dupo and Emily Keys of Dupo; siblings Charles (Paula) Keys, John (Linda) Keys, Bonnie (Charles) Chastain, Ronald “Rick” (Denise) Keys, Beverly (Jim) Lord, Doug (Dawn) Keys, Donna (Stanley) Johnson, Joe (Lisa) Keys, and Rex (Dee) Keys; father-in-law Ivan Foutch of East Carondelet; sister-in-law Debbie Keys; brothers-in-law Bruce (Kim) Foutch, Gary Foutch, Steve Foutch, and Dennis (Kim) Foutch; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his father, brother Kenneth R. Keys, nephew John Michael Keys, and mother-in-law Bertha Foutch nee Hasty. Mr. Keys was a member of the Waterloo Sportsman’s Club and was president of the Turtle Club. He was an employee of Dupo Community School District 196 as a groundskeeper for the last nine years. Previously he worked as a night supervisor at Central Parking in St. Louis, and was a correctional officer at Menard Prison in Chester for more than 10 years. He was a laborer at the early age of seven, when he began working with his later father and older brothers. Visitation was at Dashner Funeral Home. A funeral service was at First Baptist Church in Dupo, Rev. Rick Lay and Brian Thompson officiating. He is interred at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville.

Marcella Amy Akins nee Warren, 82, of Columbia, died Dec. 31, 2006, in Columbia. She was born Sept. 12, 1924, in East St. Louis the daughter of the late George D. Warren Sr. and Eula Pearl Warren nee Mitner. She was married to the late Cecil “Pee Wee” R. Akins. Mrs. Akins is survived by her sons Mark A. (Linda) Akins, and David L. (Theresa) Akins; grandchildren David, Alisha, and Travis; great-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; half-brother George D. Warren Jr.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Akins was a retired bus driver for the Dupo School District. She was a member of the School Bus Drivers Teamsters Local #50. She was an avid bowler and belonged to the Woman’s Bowling Association. Visitation and a funeral service were at Dashner Funeral Home, Rev. Matt Friz officiating. She is interred at Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy D. Mohl nee Mackey, 76, of Waterloo, died Nov. 2, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Oct. 28, 1930, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Charles and Vena Mackey nee Schneinstock. She was married to the late David J. Mohl Sr. Mrs. Mohl is survived by her children Pam (Conrad) Majino of St. Louis, Dian Borowy of Waterloo, Sandi (Ron) Stumpf of Waterloo, Mike Mohl of Waterloo, Cookie (Mike) Brightwell of Coulterville, Chuck (Melissa) Mohl of Waterloo, Ronnie (Larita) Mohl of Fults, and Robin (Fred) Otto of Waterloo; grandchildren David Stumpf, Rob (Amy) Stumpf, David (Melissa) Brightwell, Shaun Brightwell, Jason Brightwell, Michelle Mohl, Tyler Mohl, Katlyn Mohl and Robert Otto; and great-grandchildren Alexis Stumpf and Adam Stumpf. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son David Mohl Jr., and sisters and brothers. Mrs. Mohl was a member Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Msgr. Thomas Flach officiating. She is buried at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Waterloo.

Edwin J. “Bucky” Vogt, 97, of Red Bud, died Nov. 2, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born Oct. 6, 1909, in Red Bud, the son of the late William and Catherine Vogt nee Eichenseer. He was married to the late Emma Eickhorst; she preceded him in death in 1962. Mr. Vogt is survived by his son Charles Vogt of Red Bud; grandchildren David (Mary) Vogt of Dupo, Richard (Christy) Vogt of Red Bud, Jay (Becky) Vogt of Red Bud, and Lee Ann (Douglas) Gregson of Ames; and great-grandchildren Samantha, Rebecca, Kaleb, Matthew and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Patricia Vogt, and sisters Stella Vogt and Leona Tobin. Mr. Vogt was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #12152 and Holy Name Society, and he was the first recipient of the St. John Catholic School Distinguished Graduate award. He organized euchre tournaments and worked bingos at St. John. He was a retired farmer. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Fr. Tom Stout officiating. He is buried at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Red Bud. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Red Bud.

Karen Leigh Barton nee Salzwedel, 47, of Waterloo, died Nov. 4, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Aug. 6, 1959, in St. Louis the daughter of Peggy Laux of Waterloo and Donald Salzwedel of St. Charles, Mo. Mrs. Barton is survived by her parents; brother Mark (Kim) Salzwedel of St. Charles, Mo.; sister Kelly Salzwedel of Columbia; nieces and nephews Brad, John, Dan, Megan and Mary; and aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and step-father Oliver Laux Jr. Mrs. Barton was a member of First Baptist Church of Harvester, Mo. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was at First Baptist Church of Waterloo, Pastor Steve Neill officiating. A graveside service was held at Straightway Baptist Cemetery in Steelville, Mo. Memorials may be made to Mental Health Association, First Baptist Church of Waterloo, or Human Support Services.

Marie Lorraine Fitzgerald nee Fogerty, 84, of Red Bud, formerly of Chicago, died Nov. 7, 2006, in Red Bud. She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Chicago, the daughter of the late William B. and Elsie L. Fogerty nee Stults. She married the late Joseph Fitzgerald in 1955; he preceded her in death in 2000. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her son Kevin (Patricia) Fitzgerald of Red Bud; and grandchildren Michael Fitzgerald of Chicago and Colleen Fitzgerald of Red Bud. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of Divine Savior Parish in Downers Grove. She was also a member of W.A.C. and Catholic War Veterans. She was a retired guidance counselor secretary for Downers Grove South High School. She was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud and Modell Funeral Home in Darien. A funeral mass was at Divine Savior Parish in Downers Grove, Fr. Robert Pietras officiating. She is buried at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery in Alsip. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Viola M. Rahn nee Frierdich, 87, of Columbia, died Nov. 7, 2006, in Columbia. She was born April 26, 1919, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Philip and Mary Frierdich nee Schuler. She married the late George Rahn in 1946. He preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Rahn is survived by her son Ralph Rahn of Columbia, and other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Mildred Frierdich. Mrs. Rahn attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Legion Post #581 Auxiliary and had worked as a seamstress at Wiel Kalter in Millstadt. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. She is buried at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Building Fund or in the form of Masses.
