Shirlea K. Brandenburg nee Krug, 78, died Oct. 2, 2006 in St. Louis. She was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Centralia, the daughter of the late John G. and Eleanor Krug nee Souers. Mrs. Brandenburg is survived by her son H. Kurt Brandenburg of Chicago; brother Douglas (Mildred) Krug of St. Louis; and sisters Wyona (Carroll) Crosley of Columbia and Janell (Ed) Carroll of Springfield. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother John Kendall Krug. Mrs. Brandenburg was a retired legal secretary and had worked at several area law firms. A private family graveside service was held at Odd Fellows Cemetery in McLeansboro. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia of the Columbia Public Library.
James R. Dossett, 63, of Columbia, died Oct. 2, 2006. He was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Mt. Carmel, the son of Iona Dossett nee Romershausen of Evansville, Ind., and the late James R. Dossett Sr. He was married to Betty L. Aylsworth. Mr. Dossett is survived by his mother; wife; sons Jeffrey (Stephanie) Dossett of Columbia and Steven (Cheryl) Dossett of Columbia; and siblings John (Carla) Dossett of Evansville, Ind., Tom (Terri) Dossett of Waterloo, Chuck (Connie) Dossett of Elberfeld, Ind., and Mary Jo Kinder of Evansville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his father, brother Jack Dossett and sister Kay Dossett. Mr. Dossett was retired from Barnes-Jewish Hospital as an electrician. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A private funeral service was held. He is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Phillip Ronald Nobbe, newborn son of Todd and Jamie Nobbe, died Oct. 2, 2006. He is survived by his parents; twin brother Patrick and brothers Alex, Aaron and Patrick; paternal grandparents James and Bonnie Nobbe; maternal grandparents Don and Barb Hesterberg; paternal great-grandmothers Leola Nobbe and Agnes Wortmann; maternal great-grandparents Laverne Hesterberg and Norene Becker; and an aunt and uncles. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Roland Nobbe, Melvin Wortmann, Vernon Hesterberg and Walter Becker. A private graveside service was held at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
William Christopher “Bill Irish” Boyle Jr., 84, of Belleville, died Oct. 5, 2006, in Belleville. He was born May 16, 1922, the son of the late William Christopher and Almyra Boyle nee Sheer. He was married to the late Mary Louise Boyle nee Cunningham. Mr. Boyle is survived by his daughters Dolores Boyle of Denver, Colo., and Carolyn (Roy) Lantry of Millstadt; grandchildren Brian Lantry and Sarah Lantry; sister-in-law Dolores Cunningham; brother-in-law Joseph (Mary) Cunningham; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Charles Boyle. Mr. Boyle was a retired steam fitter for Five Star and he belonged to the union local. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation was at Strauss Funeral Home and Apartment Community Chapel at Our Lady of the Snows. A funeral mass was at Apartment Community Chapel at Our Lady of the Snows, Fr. Robert Braun officiating. He is buried at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Belleville.
Augustus Robert Fridrichs, 86, of Millstadt, formerly of Waterloo, died Oct. 6, 2006, in Millstadt. He was born Nov. 12, 1919, in Waterloo, the son of the late Armin L. and Mary K. Fridrichs nee Pohlmann. Mr. Fridrichs is survived by his sister Jean (Seldon) Siegfried of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; nieces Judy (David) Eberhard of Oswego, and Joli Hern of Millstadt; and cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold Fridrichs in infancy. Mr. Fridrichs was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Waterloo, Pastor Mary Beth Hartenstein officiating. He is buried at Kolmer Memorial Cemetery in Waterloo.
Arlene Steele, 72, of Columbia, died Oct. 6, 2006, in Columbia. She was born Sept. 10, 1934, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Laura Vogt nee Stillman. Ms. Steele is survived by her brother David (Linda) Vogt of Columbia, and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Steele was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Joseph C. Colley, 58, of Columbia, died Oct. 7, 2006, in Columbia. He was born Nov. 3, 1947, in Mammoth Springs, Ark., the son of the late William and Audrey Phelps nee Colley. He was married to Martha Colley nee Lampe. Mr. Colley is survived by his wife; children Jeremy Colley of Laurel, Miss., Elizabeth Colley of Columbia, and Nicholas Colley of Columbia; grandchild Audra Colley; sister Louise (S.O.) Beren of Wichita, Kan.; and a son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James Phelps. Mr. Colley attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was an usher. He was a past Grand Knight and chancellor for the Knights of Columbus #6165, was an active member of the 4th Degree, and organized many of the local blood drives. He was employed by St. Anthony’s Medical Center as a surgical instrument technician. He was also a member of the Columbia Kiwanis. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Eileen L. Krebel, 83, of Prairie du Rocher, died Oct. 7, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born April 21, 1923, in Prairie du Rocher, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary DuFrenne nee Deterding. She was married to the late Oscar Krebel; he preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Krebel is survived by her children Kay (Jim) Vogt of Fults, Barbara (Bill) Ruby of Valmeyer, Dennis (Elaine) Krebel of Red Bud, Gary (Tammy) Krebel of Columbia; grandchildren Michele (Bill) Thien, Lisa (Mark) Shevlin, Brandi (Paul) Henry, Kyle Krebel, Julie Krebel, Amanda Krebel and Rebecca Krebel; great-grandchildren Erick, Abbey, Evan and Auggie Thien, Marlie and Drew Shevlin, and Bailee Henry; sister Goldie Fausz of Red Bud; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Evelyn Moll. Mrs. Krebel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher and St. Ann’s Altar Sodality. She worked at the Little Cupboard Restaurant in Prairie du Rocher, and she worked as a housekeeper at the Ruma Convent. Visitation was at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home. Marilyn Joan Hofstetter nee Wilde, 71, of Dupo died Oct. 8, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born Aug. 19, 1935, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Alvin and Minnie Wilde nee Bauman. She was married to the late Gilbert W. Hofstetter. Mrs. Hofstetter is survived by her children Gilbert (Sue) Hofstetter, Gerald Hofstetter, Geoffrey Hofstetter and Gene Hofstetter; grandchildren Tammy (David) Martin and Adam Hofstetter; sister-in-law Bernice Arras; niece Jean Stroisch; great-nephews Michael and Daniel Stroisch; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Glen Hofstetter in infancy. Mrs. Hofstetter was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in Dupo, where she was in the Women’s Guild. Alvina M. Schneider nee Andres, 82, of Waterloo, died Oct. 8, 2006, in Des Peres, Mo. She was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Harrisonville, the daughter of the late Adam and Elizabeth Andres nee Wuertz. She was married to Jerome J. Schneider. Mrs. Schneider is survived by her husband; children Joan Bade, Janel Holmes, Marietta Schneider, Jerome (Deborah) Schneider, Jenny (Joe) Gibson, Joseph (Debi) Schneider, Angela (Rick) Kirleis, and Allison (John) Herrington; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Callistus “Chick” Andres; and sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
