Anna Myrtle Andres nee Linker, 92, of Valmeyer, died Sept. 5, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Waterloo, the daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Linker nee Weber. She was married to George Andres Sr. Mrs. Andres is survived by her children Mary Ann (Curtis) Henke of Pittsburgh, Mo., Barbara Meyer of Kirkwood, Mo., George (Pam) Andres of Edwardsville, and Margie (Bob) Kuhlman of Largo, Fla.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings Eugene (Wilma) Linker of Waterloo, Martha (Mac) McNutty of Norwood, N.Y., Peggy Gray of Omaha, Neb., Betty Benz of Valmeyer, and Louise (Floyd) Kohnz of Waterloo; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Dorothy Danley, brother Jerry Linker and son-in-law Richard Meyer. Mrs. Linker was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer. Visitation was at Quernheim Funeral Home. Funeral services were at St. Mary Catholic Church in Valmeyer, Fr. Ted Baumann officiating. She is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Madonnaville. Edna Mae Rodenberg, 56, of Dupo, died Sept. 5, 2006, in Dupo. She was born Sept. 5, 1950, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Eddy and Ruth Ann Schneeberger nee Schlemmer, Ham. She was married to Kenny Rodenberg. Mrs. Rodenberg is survived by her husband; children John David Hern and Richard A. Hern; step-children Kenny Rodenberg and Jami Rodenberg; grandchildren Ryan Hern, Tiffani Hern, Tyler Hern, Tori Hern and Taylor Hern; daughter-in-law Kath Hern; brothers Bob Ham and John Schneeberger; sister Barbara Brown; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Albright, brother Eddy Schneeberger and aunt Mamie Schlemmer. Mrs. Rodenberg worked for Schnucks as a stocker and she previously worked as a nurse’s aid. Visitation and funeral services were at Dashner Funeral Home, Rev. Rick Lay officiating. Cecilia E. Schaefer nee Kreher, 87, of Columbia, died Sept. 8, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Prairie du Long Township, the daughter of the late Edward and Marie Kreher nee Hoernschemeyer, and the step-daughter of the late Mathilda Kreher nee Maurer. She was married to the late Arthur Schaefer; he preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. Schaefer is survived by her sons Edward (Mary) Schaefer and Norman (Clara Schaefer, both of Columbia; grandchildren Sandra (Doug) Mercille, Jacqueline Costner, Michael (Crystal) Schaefer, Janice Schaefer, Cynthia Schaefer, Matthew Schaefer, Michelle (Joe) Veselsky, Melissa Schaefer and Mark Schaefer; great-grandchildren Jadie Mercille, Katrina Costner, Michael Costner Jr., Thomas Schaefer and Elisabeth Schaefer; siblings Marie (John) Mueth, Ethel Voegele, Clyde (Anna Mae) Kreher, Esther Eckart, Ruth (Robert) Speichinger, Bertram (Ethel Mae) Kreher, Joseph (Evelyn) Kreher and Estella (Victor) Mueth; sister-in-law Clarissa Imming; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Mrs. Schaefer attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Sodality. She was also a member of the Columbia Senior Citizens. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Immaculate Conception Church, Fr. Carl Scherrer officiating. Paula Denise Madden nee McFarland, 43, of Dupo, died Sept. 10, 2006, in St. Louis. She was born July 3, 1963, in Patuxon River, Md., the daughter of Darrell McFarland and Barbara McFarland nee Tyler. Mrs. McFarland is survived by her parents; children Shannon McFarland, Erin Madden, Erica Madden and Jimmy Madden; niece Fallon McFarland; and aunts, an uncle, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Carlis Lynn McFarland; maternal grandparents John and Helen Tyler and paternal grandparents Archie and Carlis McFarland. Arlou W. Rippelmeyer Frisch nee Hoerr, 89, of Swansea, formerly of Waterloo, died Sept. 10, 2006, in Swansea. She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Maeystown, the daughter of the late Henry and Emma Hoerr nee Rodenberg. She was preceded in death by husbands Arnold Rippelmeyer and Oliver Frisch. Mrs. Rippelmeyer is survived by her children Marlene L. (Leroy) Vogel-Karsten of Marissa, and Darrel R. (Donna) Rippelmeyer of Belleville; grandchildren Susan Mouser of Swansea, Scott (Bridget) Vogel of Blair, Brian S. (Rebecca) Rippelmeyer of Belleville, and Michelle Lyn (Todd) Morris of Des Moines, Iowa; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sister Laverne Whelan of Waterloo; and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Roy E. Salzman, 78, of Granite City, died Sept. 10, 2006, in Edwardsville. He was born Oct. 8, 1927, in Carlock, the son of the late John A. and Florence Salzman nee Holderly. He was married to Betty J. Salzman nee Staley. Mr. Salzman is survived by his wife; daughter Margaret R. Salzman of Granite City; son Paul D. Salzman of Granite City; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Violet Salzman of Viroqua, Wisc.; and nephew Kenneth Salzman of Viroqua, Wisc. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph Salzman. Mr. Salzman was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local #98. He also belonged to the Edwardsville Municipal Band and the American Guild of Organists. He was a former teacher and music director of the Valmeyer school district, and remained a friend and mentor to many students. Visitation was at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville. Leo R. “Buddy” Dufrenne, 86, of Prairie du Rocher, died Sept. 12, 2006, in Red Bud. He was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Prairie du Rocher, the son of the late Alonzo “Lonnie” R. and Laura Henrietta Dufrenne nee Longlois. He married Viola Roth in 1940; she survives him. Mr. Dufrenne is survived by his wife; children Lillian (Patrick) Drury of Prairie du Rocher, Leo (Susan) Dufrenne of Red Bud, Wayne (Susan) Dufrenne of Prairie du Rocher, and Douglas (Pamela) Dufrenne of Ste. Genevieve, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Doris (Gilmore) Bachelier of Prairie du Rocher, Bonnie Piel of Red Bud, Marjorie (Kenny) Turnbough of Perryville, Mo., and Fern (Larry) Deterding of Prairie du Rocher; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Marvin Dufrenne, Raymond Dufrenne and Melvin Dufrenne; siblings Wilmarth “Sis” Steibel, Kenneth Dufrenne, Gilster Dufrenne, Maydell Wiegard, Patricia Kueker, Ordell Dufrenne, Romona Dufrenne, Loretta Dufrenne and Mary Dufrenne, and great-granddaughter Skyla Hampson. Mr. Dufrenne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher. He worked for Local #520 as an operator engineer for Allied Chemical in Prairie du Rocher for 37 years. Emily L. Schmidt nee Polacek, 90, of Waterloo, died Sept. 12, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Polacek nee Ditte. Mrs. Schmidt is survived by her children Charles Danco (Shirley), Ailene Vallett, John (Vicki) Schmidt, and Lonny (Patricia) Schmidt; grandchildren Jesse Danco, Ricky Danco, Joe (Tori) Danco, Michele Vallett, Kim Schmidt, Matt Schmidt, Lesley (Alex) Fruth, Jason Schmidt, Justin Schmidt and Josh Schmidt; great-grandchildren; brothers Frank Polacek Jr. and Robert Polacek; sisters Marcella Hobbs and Violet Birke; and dear friends Helen Godare and Glover Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren Danny Danco and Audrey Danco, and brothers William Polacek and Edward Polacek. Robert Lee Ault, 49, of Valmeyer, died Sept. 13, 2006, in St. Louis. He was born April 19, 1957, in Belleville, the son of the Frank A. and Doris Ault Freeman nee Bradzel. He married Jeri Ault nee Hassard in 1991; she survives him. Mr. Ault is survived by his nine children: Jessica (Jim) Wahl of Cottage Hills, Jason (Laurie) Grimes of Natrona Heights, Pa., Jade (Mike Levendoski) Grimes of Waterloo, Jana (Scott) Geller of Waterloo, David (Amber) Grimes of Waterloo, Michael (Dannielle) Alt of Belleville, Jarrod (Katie) Grimes of Belleville, Brett Grimes of Valmeyer and Robbie Ault of Valmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Ault was employed by ADT Security Systems in St. Louis as an alarm technician. He was a member of IBEW Local #1 in St. Louis, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to RV, and go camping, four-wheeling and canoeing. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Chaplain Ron Simpson officiating. He was cremated according to his wishes. Memorials may be made to the Robbie Ault Fund.
Estella L. Davis nee Lamer, 98, died Sept. 14, 2006, in Columbia. She was born March 1, 1908, in Alto Pass, the daughter of the late Walter and Ara Lamer nee Rendleman. She was married to the late Lester Davis. Mrs. Davis is survived by her son John (Enzina) Davis of Columbia; grandchildren Christ (Michele) Davis of Glenview, and Lisa (Joe) Selski of Windermere, Fla.; and great-grandchildren Savannah Selski, Caroline Selski, Jack Davis and Corinne Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters Eloise Trece, Elizabeth Ballard and Dee Dee Blair. Mrs. Davis was a retired middle school teacher in Alto Pass. She was known for her love of gardening and arranging flowers. Even at 98, she especially enjoyed children and was most happy when they came to visit. Graveside services were held at Anna City Cemetery in Anna. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Research of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Anna.
