Robert E. Murphy, 68, of Waterloo, died Sept. 14, 2006, in Waterloo. He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Murphy was a Waterloo attorney and served as Monroe County state’s attorney from 1972 to 1976. His father taught at the Berlin Conservatory of Music; his mother taught in the Waterloo Public Schools. No services were held.
James Michael Lindley, 51, of Dupo, died Sept. 15, 2006, in East St. Louis. He was born March 10, 1955, in East St. Louis, the son of the late William Richard and Helen Roberta Lindley Jr. nee Schaefer. He was married to Emily Lindley. Mr. Lindley is survived by his wife; children Joyelle Lindley of East Carondelet, Jason Calhoon of North Dupo, Jolene (Kent) Watson of Fairview Heights, and Brandon McCoy of Dupo; step-children Nathan Brooks of East Carondelet and Josh Brooks of Louisiana; grandchildren Damien Watson and Kayla Watson; sisters Roberta (Rich) Eskew of St. Louis and Linda (Leonard) Moody of Waterloo; brother William (Mary) Lindley Jr. of St. Louis; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Virginia Goss. Mr. Lindley and his wife owned Beauty and the Beast productions. He was a member of the Prairie du Pont Fire Department, the First Baptist Church in Dupo, and the Jaycee’s. He enjoyed playing Santa Clause. Visitation was at Dashner Funeral Home. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Dupo, Pastor Rick Lay officiating. He is buried at Lakeview Memorial Garden in Fairview Heights.
Joseph Anton LaCroix, 82, of East Carondelet, died Sept. 16, 2006, in East Carondelet. He was born March 3, 1924, in Cahokia, the son of the late Narcise and Gertrude LaCroix nee Range. He was married to the late Dora LaCroix nee Booker. Mr. LaCroix is survived by his children John (Candy) LaCroix of Dupo, David (Karen) LaCroix of East Carondelet, Dan (Debbie) LaCroix of Columbia, Jim (Nora) LaCroix of East Carondelet, and Debra (Louis) Schultz of Dupo; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and twin sister Josephine Noski. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers Narcise LaCroix and Vincent LaCroix, sister Clara LaCroix; grandson Michael Schultz; and great-granddaughter Madison DeJarnette. Mr. LaCroix was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo. He was a retired farmer and was also retired from the Casper Stolle Quarry. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 520 and the St. Clair County Farm Bureau. Visitation was at Dashner Funeral Home. A funeral mass was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dupo, Fr. Paul Wienhoff officiating. He is buried at Holy Family / St. Joseph Cemetery in Dupo. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Mamie Wierschem nee Kettler, 102, of Columbia, died Sept. 21, 2006, in Columbia. She was born Feb. 7, 1904, in Columbia, the daughter of the late Henry L. and Anna Kettler nee Bauman. She was married to the late Anton Wierschem; he preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Wierschem is survived by her close friend Loretta Thien, cousins, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Elizabeth Kettler. Mrs. Wierschem was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she had been active in the Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of Rebecca’s Lodge, Columbia Senior Citizens and Columbia Gymnastic Association Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation and funeral services were at Lawlor Funeral Home, Pastor Bob Goddard officiating. She is buried at Evangelical St. Paul Cemetery in Columbia. Ruth Evelyn Mueller nee Volk, 85, of Waterloo, died Sept. 22, 2006, in Waterloo. She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Sedalia, Mo., the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Volk nee Gray. She was married to the late Pastor Alois W. Mueller. Mrs. Mueller is survived by her children Alice (Ronald) Bicklein of Anchorage, Alaska, Anna (Wesley) Weatherford of Waterloo, Paul (Cheryl) Mueller of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brenda (Roger) Crawford of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Royce Bicklein of San Antonio, Tex., Tavia Bicklein of Anchorage, Alaska, Heather Mueller Jones of Dallas, Tex., Britt Crawford of Tulsa, Okla., and Katrina Crawford Mulquin of Phoenix, Ariz.; great-great-grandson Parker Bicklein; sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law; aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Donna M. Mulherin nee Keebler, 72, of Waterloo, died Sept. 22, 2006, in Galena. She was born Jan. 18, 1924, in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late Samuel and Thelma Keebler nee George. She was married to Thomas L. Mulherin. Mrs. Mulherin is survived by her husband; children Jack (Sharon) Bartosik, Sharon (Bob) Chesnut, Steven (Annette) Bartosik, Debbie (Clay) Metzger and tom (Amy) Mulherin; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Harold Keebler; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Victor Joseph Bartosik Jr. and brother David Keebler. Mrs. Mulherin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Ruth M. Wachtel nee Kreher, 98, of Millstadt, died Sept. 22, 2006, in Columbia. She was born May 3, 1908, in Prairie du Long Township, the daughter of the late Emmerich and Mary Kreher nee Hopp. She was married to the late Leo Wachtel. Mrs. Wachtel is survived by her son-in-law David E. Boggs of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren Greg (Louise) Boggs of Kansas City, Mo., Mark (Dana) Boggs of Kansas City, Mo., and Dee Dee (Jim) Aubrey of Sumiton, Ala.; caretakers Ruth and Robert Speichinger of Millstadt; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Donald L. Wachtel, daughter Grace Boggs, sisters Betty Maurer and Appolonia Birkner, and brothers Edward Kreher, Emmerich Kreher and William Kreher. William A. Goodnick, age 67, of Eolia, Mo., formerly of Troy, Mo., and Columbia, died Sept. 23, 2006, in Eolia, Mo. He was born on Feb. 14, 1939, in Belleville, the son of Emil J. and Mary Goodnick nee Malacarne. He married Mary “Bernie” Wilson in 1982. He is survived by his wife; daughters Marsha Goodnick of Dupo, Mary (Don) Illig of Dupo, and Tina Goodnick of Eolia, Mo.; sons Steve Goodnick of Crown Point, Ind., and Ronnie (Callie) Goodnick of Barnhart, Mo.; six grandchildren; sister Virginia (Charlie) Kaemmerer of Belleville; mother-in-law Ceceilia Wilson of St. Peters, Mo.; sisters-in-law Rose Goodnick and Sue Goodnick, both of Belleville, Ceilann Layfield of Orlando, Fla., and Kathy (Mike) Mantia of O’Fallon, Mo.; brothers-in-law Butch (Bobbie) Wilson of Orlando, Fla., and Mike (Karen) Wilson of Florissant, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers John Goodnick and Ronnie Goodnick. Mr. Goodnick was a member of the Columbia Jaycees, Broken Arrow Appaloosa Club and Moark Appaloosa Club. His early years were spent in Illinois, where he graduated from the public schools. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1958 to 1960. He had worked as an industrial painter and member of Painters Dist. Council No. 2. A funeral service was at McCoy-Blossom Chapel in Troy, Mo.
Edna M. Mosbacher nee Rehg, 97, died Sept. 25, 2006, in Belleville. She was born March 25, 1909, in Darmstadt, the daughter of the late Fred and Caroline Rehg Sr. nee Lutz. She was married to the late Henry Mosbacher. Mrs. Mosbacher is survived by her step-grandchild Linda Haake of Nashville; special friend Edna Dell Weinel of Columbia; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands August Heise, John Kannewurf and Julius Weltig; and siblings Fred Rehg, William Rehg, Edward Rehg, Walter Rehg, Elmer Rehg, Alvin Rehg, Anna Heisner, Lena Hoepfinger and Frieda Huch Woodward. Mrs. Mosbacher was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia and American Legion Post #581 Auxiliary. Visitation was at Lawlor Funeral Home. Clarence Thomas Hornbeck IV, 27, of Maeystown, died Sept. 26, 2006, in Hecker. He was born Dec. 21, 1978, in Belleville, the son of Tom and Nancy Hornbeck III of Maeystown.
